WONDERFUL!!!

I'm just absolutely buzzing. My ears are bleeding.

The support acts tonight were both superb, and I was a bit worried that The Features had a tough act to follow. But they didn't buckle under the pressure, they just gave an absolutely stellar performance.

The sound wasn't too great - they didn't seem to turn Matt's mic up until a few songs in... and I don't know whether the sound was merging because I was stood next to the speaker or what. BUT it just didn't impair on my enjoyment.

The 100 club wasn't sold out, but there were a few acknowledging whoops at song titles. It's a far cry from when I saw them at the start of the year. They were filming the gig too, so I'd be interested to see where that turns up.

I nicked Matt's setlist, which is amusingly written over a picture of Angelina Jolie from today's Daily Mirror. The songs seem to correlate with what was played (apologies for not knowing some full titles):

Circus
The way it's meant to be (complete with audience clapping interaction!)
Exhibit A
Blow it out
Skirts
Kari-Ann (for Andy!)
There's a million ways to sing the blues
Leave it all behind
Demons
Mosis
Thursday

Then Matt was ready to go off. It looked like Rollum had cut his finger during the madness of Thursday... but the cheering was so much that they came back on for another. Then I heard Rollum say 'fuck it, let's play two'

Encore:
The Beginning
(Andy will have to help me out with the very last song)

So, I appear to have converted my friend who was unimpressed by the recordings. And I had a quick chat to Matt afterwards and made him promise to play Speed of 33 1/3 next time they're in London (well, it worked for Andy and Kari-Ann...)

HAH!

Yes, Matt lived up to the promise of playing Karie-Ann for me.

The last song was a blistering rendition of "God Save Rock 'n' Roll"

I very much enjoyed it, as did my girlfriend. The non-Features fans were somewhere in the middle. One of them absolutely loved "Blow It Out", but wasn't too taken with the rest of the set... loser! I think the sound wasn't too great right at the front. I couldn't hear Matt for a fair few of the songs, and the keys seemed to vanish under the wall of guitar and drums that were coming through.

"Blow It Out" has to be the third single from the album though... surely? It's got "HIT" written all over it.

I am once more amazed at Rollum's drumming.

It was also very nice to meet Ladytron, who seemed like a thoroughly lovely person.

...and this ain't one of them...

Any reason why they only played 2 songs from the EP? Not complaining like, just curious.
God, my ears are still ringing this morning!

You mean The Beginning? I was a bit surprised they only played that as an encore....

I'm guessing the setlist probably refflects the album moreso than the EP.

Just a guess.

Yeah, I mean The Beginning. Only one song from it in the main set and one song from it in the encore. Still, judging by the set list last night it's nice to know the album will be just as good if not better!

Damn, my one chance to see how he spells "Ptosis" and he has to shorten it! I guess the fact that they have setlists speaks to how seriously they're taking these shows. And yes, that setlist very closely resembles the tracklisting from Exhibit A.

To my knowledge, they rarely use a "setlist", but instead a "list of songs they could potentially play". The fact that the list of songs matched the order of the songs they played means they must be more serious about what songs they play and in which order they play them.

I have nothing to back this up.

Anytime I've seen them do setlists they do them in order... I have some pretty funny stuff from a couple of shows in the fall of 2002 where Pelham is writing the list and trying to remember songs, and Rollum is throwing stuff out to him and then they argue about the order or whether they want to play a song... I know doesn't sound that funny on paper, but it reminded me of trading baseball cards. "Ok, if we do Moonlight then I get Burma" "No way" "Ok 33?" "Deal"

For a long time the "list of songs they could potentially play" was the same list as "all the songs we know." In recent months, though, I think there are songs they could actually play but choose not to... which is a good thing.

Yeah, Andy was saying he nicked the setlist from when he saw them in feb, and apparently it didn't resemble the gig at all.

So does this mean Thursday will be on the album? Please, please...

If you like that song so much, you know there is a 10" for sale on the merch page. But I wouldn't count on getting a new studio version. That song is sooo nineteen ninety something.

Right... well I downloaded the mp3, but it would've been nice to have heard a re-recording. I sent an email to merch asking if they shipped overseas, but I haven't had anything back, so who knows if I can buy it?!
