Well, I just arrived home from yet another stellar show. I regretably did not stay for Andrew Birds Bowl of Fire. It's a long drive home and I was already quite sleepy. It was a great show with a few minor glitches. I finally own the 7" and the new buttons and a shirt. I went a little crazy. All the new merch is wonderful. The buttons and stickers are "so goddamn cute".

On a side note, is there actually anything cool in Chattanooga?? We could find no record stores, vintage stores( hell we would've settled for a goodwill), ect. It seems like all the was to do was eat and go to the aquarium, but I could very well just be missing something.

This show was amazing, of course. It was a pleasure to finally meet LawnWrangler, Wash Jones and Bowl of Fire. IWantElvis and I were pleased to see some other Features' supporters. Overall the venue was odd (the stage seems to be out of the way, in a corner and not the center of attention like at the Boro) and the people were even moreso. I'm all for getting into the music and doing some head bobbing, a little hopping and fist pumping, but waving your can of beer in the air while thrash dancing is not acceptable, especially when said beer is 1. Possibly getting on Matt and 2. Possibly getting on his equipment. It seemed like some people were there just to get drunk and grind up against each other...but still it did indeed rock. And...I have Features buttons. And the 45. Life is good. Life is grand.

I finally realized what those guys looked like....it was tribal. The were from the mother land. Question: Where were the lip plates and neck elongators??

Remember back in August when The Features played at The Boro and then at The Attic AND THEN back the next night for 12th and Porter? Well, I went to the first two, and I posted a little something about The Attic show. Basically, I talked about getting hit on by some "ladies" (imagine that word as if The Ladies' Man said it), and there was also a guy who was dancing REALLY hardcore. He wasn't moshing or anything stupid like that, but he was waving his arms around. Ceeze, Cautioner, damon, and I all thought he was going into seizures. It was insane. We just looked at each other.

Anyway, there were a bunch of drunk people at that show too. Maybe the people in Chattanooga just go out and party every night to make up for how incredibly horrible their city is. I don't know why I have disdain for that place, but I do (especially since I could hardly find the damn ramp I was looking for to get back onto the interstate).

Regardless of all that, I wish that I could have been there last night. Unfortunately, I was too busy counting money at Food Kitty.

I remember you posting that originally and after seeing the hijinks, I thought "Well, StephanieW was right..."

And Chattanooga is pretty bad...there is very little to do (But the Thai food place was pretty nice...).

Does anyone know the setlist? I remember them playing

-God Save Rock & Roll
-Exorcising Demons
-Walk You Home
-Oh My Love
-Leave It All Behind
-The Damage Is Done
-Me & The Skirts
-The Design
-Circus
-The Beginning
-See You Through
-Kari-Ann
-Buffalo Head
-Thursday

I know the first two are correct in order but other than that I have no clue what order they played them in. I'm pretty sure that that is the setlist, just not in order.

Ahh, the show. Let me start by saying it was nice to finally meet Digsy. Bought the 45 and a shirt. BTW-Matt said he made all the shirts on his smoke break that very day, so they're nice & fresh. And the 45 sounds damn good, of course.
The people were SCARY! I saw two fights and boys dancing like they were inbred (a stretch, I know).
I must admit that I, being a big Bowl of Fire fan, was very disappointed in their performance. My friends and I think Andrew was piss drunk. I mean he's a strange bird to begin with, but that was bizarre for even him. And it just didn't sound like it should've. They're really lacking w/out the stand-up bass that they used to have. Still a quality Features show, tho. Worth the drive! wink.gif

One of the dancing creatures kept harrassing IWantElvis and I all night. He came up to me at least twice and tried to get me to dance with him. I almost kissed him on the hand just to freak him out enough to leave me alone, but then I realized that only the good Lord knows where that hand has been. Stupid yankee. cool.gif

And wow, Matt made the shirts on his smoke break, that is too cool. I still don't have the new afro shirt, I only have the bird shirt...and if we do indeed make it to the knoxville show, since we will have a place to stay I can guarantee that we will get to see the Bowl of Fire. I hope that I get to see them.

Chattanooga does indeed suck, and there isn't anything to do. Avoid it, it is a silly place.

i was kind of worried about the set when the opening number, gsrnr, was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too slow. hope this isn't a permanent change. fortunately they picked it up after a couple of songs. bof was very cool, but left me longing for a bass player. it was nice to meet digsy and iwantelvis. looking forward to wednesday and thurday....
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

I noticed GSRNR was a tad slow and the Exorcising Demons mishap was also funny, but only because the band laughed as well. I like the fact that they don't get super upset about technical glitches. They just cover themselves and, sometimes, the audience helps (like at the last boro show when Matt broke a string right before the last chorus of Oh My Love; the audience seemed to start singing along even louder). Overall it was a great show.

As a former college student in Chattanooga, I will say it does have its redeeming qualities.

The problem with the town when you visit is that it is sooooo spread out.
The bulk of my rare REM bootlegs and posters were found browsing through the numerous old record shops there. People visit and don't find anything in the downtown area, and there isn't much of anything there. Travel to the far reaches of the map in that area, and you'll find it worth the journey.

GSRnR seemed normal at the 12&P show.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

I am curious to know where these record stores or just the names. The hope of R.E.M. bootlegs intrigues me.

Chattanooga is a college town that's not a college town, and it's full of a quite eclectic group of college students. Somehow, my love for avant garde music grew there. I strangely found places that catered to that.

As for record shops, there was Melon Head's Music (and ammunition) in Red Bank, and Chad's Records moved so many times, I couldn't tell you where it is now. Both of those places are great (though the first is a little pricey). I ran out of money before I could clean out Chad's vinyl REM bootleg collection. I cleaned out Melon Head's original REM posters.

You are too kind, I am going to Atlanta soon in hopes of bootlegs. Chattanooga is half that trip so it would be very nice to find a closer place to spend all my available money.

I spent $100.00 in Wax and Facts alone. This time I am going to not spend it all in one place hopefully.

If you haven't seen andrew since they had an upright bass, you've missed out on a lot. i highly doubt he was drunk, he's just changed his style a lot, and also he had to make a lot of changes 'cause it was just the three of them.

As for the features show, it was a little heavy on the bass side, though a lot of people probably liked that. the vocals were good, and my only real complaint is that rollum was way back in that corner and i couldn't see all the funny stuff he was most-likely doing. also the wild chicken dancers in the front were a bit of a distraction. i had the fear that 1. someone would start a fight right next to me (which almost happened) and 2. the drunk pygmie dancers would some how give matt a bloody nose. pretty good show though, lots of energy. I'd give it a B+.

I also made it to knoxville (of course) which i'll post about in another thingie.
