hoe lee shit
this was quite possibly the best show i've ever seen, both the features and bowl of fire.
first about the venue...man it was strange. it was actually an old bank made into a club. it was very open and spatious with bistro tables and lowlight on marble floors lined with big marble pillars. there were black lights and neon lights lining the entire place that had big windows covered with miniblinds. Very very good sound system though, they had speakers positioned at various places throughout the entire venue for that "surround sound" feel. it was great.
bowl of fire opened up this time, and they played a very good set. i could talk a lot about them, but i know you want to hear about the features.
the features really rocked! the show was clean and clear. the sound was almost perfect, though you couldn't hear parrish very well. matt sang well, and there was only one mishap when he broke a string (again during exorcising demons like in chattanooga), but they recovered well. They played a lot of good stuff, some stuff i haven't heard before, and it was a fairly long set. action, stagecoach, and the idea of growing old are just a few that i can remember (that i hadn't heard live before).
the only real surprise i got was that they DIDN'T play leave it all behind. of all the songs they play these days, i figured that would be one that they always play. i yelled for it during encores, but it didn't happen.
anyway, a friend of mine video recorded a few songs (we didn't have a tripod, so we couldn't just hold the thing for the entire show) and also i minidisc recorded the entire show which turned out "ok" by my standards. it was better than chattanooga, but still a little buzzy. I know a guy on the bowl of fire message board who soundboard recorded the show in nashville, which was apparently really good. when i get it i'll see if i can pass it along.
highs: long set, "rare" songs, good sound, good venue, high energy, GREAT hand claps, matt's funny faces, people singing along to stark white stork approaching like one big happy family (with hand claps!)
funnies: rollum and roger playing paper rock scissors during stark white stork approaching, matt breaking a string, parrish turning his keyboard bass WAY up during armani suede (it shook the place)
lows: hard to hear parrish during most of the set, no "leave it all behind"...?
I give it an A+
i'll see if i can put some songs up, if not the whole show. can the mp3 site handle a short video? stark white stork approaching was magnificent, and i got that one on film.
The set was played as follows:
circus
me and the skirts
moonlight
exorcising demons
kari ann
darkroom
stagecoach
33 1/3
the design
buffalohead
bumblebee
walk you home
see you thru
the beginning
the idea of growing old
god save rock n roll
thursday
encores:
stark white stork approaching
armani suede
action
I'm truly sorry for those of you who couldn't come. it was great. I'm really gonna try to come out to the boro on nov. 16, if you all could help me find some place to stay for ass-cheap
peace, love, and the features
