Airleine - eh, good job, but not for me
Lucky Guns - apparantly the Brits will love them

It was nice to meet Ceeze at the show. He's a real asshole. Don't let his witty banter fool you on the messageboard. He doesn't fake it like Sina. All kidding aside, the show was a lot of fun. I got to watch the show from the back with JC, which was very enjoyable. Pelham was very badass tonight. Yes, Pelham was badass. You heard right. My hopes of them playing Discotheque were dashed, but I was money on 2/3 of the encore, as JC can attest. And, some improvisational mention of Don't Lie To Me in the new song was great. This show was very fun.

Oh yeah, the Features suck.

Token and I began discussing how we could re-write this song to fit our lives:

Feed the kitty, before the kitty feeds you.
Change her litter, before litter change you.
Make some dinner, before some dinner eats you.
I can't grow a beard, and I don't like to party.

"you're so bitter. so god damn bitter-sweet sweet sweet sweeeeee-tah. alright! brothers and sisters." im expecting the lucky guns to cover "rambling rose" by the MC5 anyday now

On a more relevant note- Matt told me that the new song has no title and no lyrics. he's just mumbling and inserting random phrases that he thought sounded good. all i can say is that's some damn catchy mumbling.

I thoroughly enjoyed myself last night.

The lucky guns were the best I'd seen them yet.
Aireline entertained me but didn't excite me or anything. I lost interest toward the end.
As always, the Features rocked.

The Inferno is a great venue. I definitely hope the guys play there many more times. Next time (hopefully) I'll try the balcony.

I had a great, great time at this show. Every time I go into a Features show feeling ho-hum, I get blown away again. They just keep rocking.

Aireline did not excite me. I have to say that The Lucky Guns have become one of my favorite opening acts. They are extremely entertaining. I also wish Elekibass would come back and open for the Features again. That was some fun.

I enjoyed seeing all you fine messageboard folk, as always.

In all honesty, I would say this was a very mediocre Features show. Therefore, I loved every single minute of it. While they're a far cry of becoming predictable, I really think there has been a lack of true "surprises" lately. But the fact of the matter is the new material is good. Damn good. Plus, they didn't waste my time with Action, Serious, or the Design. Yeah, I said it.

Carligula's tips to enjoying more Features songs:
1) We got to get together on the whoa whoa whoas in Exhibit A kids!
2) Most of you people still fail to realize how incredibly awesome Someway, Somehow is. I understand some of you are a little slow, but when that chorus hits, everyone needs to go apeshit. You'll thank me later.
3) If you listen close, you'll notice Roger's backing vocals are the highlight of Circus. Please join him, if you will.

On paper, the Inferno is a great venue, but I was slightly turned off by the "atmosphere" of it. I think they're trying a little too hard. It was really cool, however, returning for the first time to the location of my Features deflowering. From what I remember, not a whole lot has changed in the 6 years or so. As far as sound goes, I felt the keys were turned up a little too much from where I was standing. Also, despite the hilarious reaction from Rollum, I wanted to drag the lighting guy out back and beat the tar out of him.

Even though they didn't suck, I was a little bored with the openers last night.

Oh yeah, just so I can be the first I wanted to say that Sina's a huge trampy bitch. She spilled beer on my buddy, punched me in the balls, and starting making out with my girlfriend. Slut.

Really?
I really really thought that the sound was the best ive ever heard at a Features show. The Inferno bar for being a "dance hiphop" kinda club has a pretty damn good sound system, better than 12th and porter, and i thought even the Exit In. Also, the besides the great monitors, i thought the mix was pretty good with the exceptions of a couple portions. Maybe my opinion is biased b/c i know the fellow MTSU RIM student who was running the sound board. Yes thats correct, an MTSU RIM student, not just some random guy with long hair that looks like he knows how to run sound. Anyway, overall i thought the show was by far the best sounding features show ive seen in awhile, the vocals were a perfect level coming from the high monitors, and you could actually hear what matt was singing, except the mumbling song. I hope someone recorded this on DAT.

Don't get me wrong, I thought the sound was excellent, I just felt the keys were turned a little too high. It seemed worst for the first few songs, so I either got used to it or the levels were adjusted. I will also point out that the guys seemed to be scrambling to fix a keyboard problem right before their set started, so I'm suspicious this may have been the culprit. Your friend did a fine job. As far as the sound being better than the Exit/In or 12th and Porter, well...

On a related note, I'm surprised we haven't heard any bitching yet about the late start and having to stand outside in the cold due to a late soundcheck.

Yes, BBC Radio 1 was there interviewing Features fans for the documentary ("D-Con" was like a self-fulfilling prophesy).

I was told by said representative that there is quite a buzz about the Features in London right now.

i heard that the late start was due to the fact that the personnel at the inferno bar took 2 hours to install the sound system (and it was one that they were unfamiliar with which added to the long wait which is fine, the venue sounded great). I didnt wait outside. Just hung out inside with my red stripe by the balcony.

hmmm,
and there i was braggin on my buddy for running sound,
but it was a kick ass system, there were 8 large monitors for running bass, at least 4 vocal monitors, and i think there were monitors on stage running the guitars and keyboards,......it was an immense set up for a M'boro venue.

Very good show. I love the new song. It's already becoming a favorite. Surprisingly, The Inferno Bar (Dance Club - Disco Kitchen) did not suck.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

The sound elements were quite a bit off until they played Leave It All Behind. The keys were too loud and the guitar was too low. After that, everything seemed to be groovy. I had an awesome time, but there were a lot of mistakes in this show. More than usual. I'm not sure if it was equipment or not, but I noticed a lot of stuff sounding a tad off or late. It doesn't matter though, because the Features are my favorite band.

And, I think Ray Davies finally found out how to really enjoy the Lucky Guns - get crunked before the show.

the show was good. i love the new song. "harder to ignore" is now battling "circus" and "the way it's meant to be" for my favorite live song. i agree with carl on the "someway, somehow" and "exhibit a" comments. there are few things better than the oh-oh's in that song. i need to hear "harold." i named my fish harold. maybe if i bring harold to the next show they will be forced to play the song in his honor.

i enjoyed the lucky guns a little more last night. i liked three of their songs. maybe "crunked" is the way to see them. i'll try that next time.

on another note, did any of you happen to go to the alternate universe that is the upstairs bar of the inferno? we stumbled in there only to find and old man singing a song about girls with no panties and a depressed comic doing an act that included the phrase "man titties" and something about masturbation and mashed potatoes. i can't wait to go back.

At all of the features shows ive been to within the last 4 years, .....the fans..........are terrified to applaud the band for more than a couple seconds.
Hmmm... I've honestly never noticed that. I guess I'm probably guilty of this, though. I tend to save my energy to moving my big ass while the music is actually playing, especially during Someway, Somehow. I figure I'm doing my part for the band that way.

And I believe the term is getting "krunk", not "krunked". For the record, I was not "krunk" and did not particularly love the Lucky Guns. So, the theory holds true.

Last night was an incredible show and the venue itself did not suck. Of course, having to suffer through Bush, Sublime and Linkin Park while waiting for the Features to come on truly sucked. I see a lot of potential in Infernobar that is being wasted on nasty fratboys. The 'alternate universe' of Heaven was hilarious. The comic called himself a cross between Conan O'Brien and Sally Struthers. Gold. Why haven't the Features had a comedian open for them? That would be pretty cool. The Lucky Guns entertained me until they hit their back-to-back slow songs. They need to either cut those or place them apart so they don't totally jack up their momentum. I remember nothing of Aireline's set. They aren't horrible, though. I don't really see what MarkSpencer is saying about the audience. I, for one, scream and applaud like a madman after every song and during every song.

Ah, and Parrish's new hat was amazing. May he never take it off.

I could be wrong, but I think Meeks was responsible for at least some of the music. All I know is we heard two, count 'em two, Pearl Jam songs. And there ain't nothing wrong with that.

Well, for those of you who missed it,
basically i had a very large paragraph about the lack of audience response at the features shows throughout the years. We do give a response, but it is mostly a short applause followed by a quiet murmur amongst the crowd. There usually are a few people trying to pump up the crowd by yelling, but they get looked at as being crazy or "uncool".....Then by the end of the show, people just stand there and it can be like pulling teeth to get people to make noise to get the band back on stage. Maybe its just the general disposition of the average Features fan, a quiet appreciation of the music,....but i think we should get pumped, be screaming our heads off......b/c audience response is a large part of any kind of show, and will inevitably lead to attracting more and more fans.

no one should have to pump anyone up, being the massive features fan that you are SFM, you should be so excited that they are playing, that you're naturally pumped. Someone told me that people doing a documentary on Southern bands went into Grimey's and was asking the clerk some questions (not Doyle). Do you think this was the BBC people? I knew I should have gone to the show. Dammit.

Doesn't Inferno Bar have their own PA? Why would they use one they weren't familiar with? Unless The Features asked for something special to be brought in...

The BBC was at Infernobar. This Brittish woman came up to my friends and I and interviewed us about The South and music here and stuff like that.

Also, it was a great show. smile.gif And to comment on the "pump people up" thing. I've said it many times, the people around here just don't jump around and get rowdy like they should! It's like a cultural thing I think. haha. I'm from San Diego and concerts, shows whatever there and here are completely different animals. Southerners are so laid back it's not instinctive for them to go crazy in a pit or something. But that doesn't mean they don't share the same appreciation for good tunes that the rest of the more visibly excited people do. But it is a helluvalot more fun to go crazy in a pit of infectious, rampaging enthusiasm than to just stand there and stiffly bob your head around like a chicken! No offense. ;P That is all I have to say about that.

i never said i was a fan of the features.
and, i can be "naturally pumped" without coreography.
i just dont understand why people care so much about this. people do their own things. i dont think that short clapping time between songs turns has anything to do with how new observers see the features. however, i agree with you that the crowd can often ruin features shows. it ruins a show for me to see morons being over-enthused, doing hand motions to sign the lyrics, clapping way too much [within songs], doing tandem coreography, punching arms in the air at key "yeah" points in the songs, and agreeing with each other between songs about how good the last song was and guessing what the next song will be. anyway, i think that guy who always stands right in front of matt does enough clapping for everyone. you know who you are.

I'll step in for Mr. Unknown on this one. People who want to act enthusiastic at a show are fine, and people who want to step back and chill while they watch the show are fine too. I have lately been taking the second option. I don't think that Mr. Unknown should be bashed for having enthusiasm during a show. If he likes the Features that much (which I know for a fact that he does), then why shouldn't he and his cohorts have fun? Hmm...have fun, I say?! Surely I jest. Nope. Oh my God, he's clapping in the songs, how dare he?! Get over it. He's no more of a moron than you are for being offended by fandom. I've seen a lot worse, a LOT worse. They take enough shit, those people who "stand in the front." They're just misunderstood. I doubt you've ever talked to them. I shouldn't assume though. So, ever talked to any of them? Riiiiight. They're actually nice, believe it or not. Some people just happen to be more mellow.

Please understand that I don't dislike you. I just find your opinion to be a little bit mean. As a result, I felt the need to stick up for some friends of mine.

however, i agree with you that the crowd can often ruin features shows.  it ruins a show for me to see morons being over-enthused, doing hand motions to sign the lyrics, clapping way too much [within songs], doing tandem coreography, punching arms in the air at key "yeah" points in the songs, and agreeing with each other between songs about how good the last song was and guessing what the next song will be.  anyway, i think that guy who always stands right in front of matt does enough clapping for everyone.  you know who you are.
Riiiiight. If mr. dawson hadn't posted this already, I would have tried to post something quite similiar. I agree with what he's said. I can quite see how someone would have an enjoyable features experience sitting at the bar having a couple drinks, or not having any. regardless, when they rock out, i feel the need to rock out as well. i fucking love to go crazy when the music is playing... it's something i do in my bedroom when the blinds are shut...

as far as mr. davies, he's quite enthusiastic and i applaud it. not only does he have fun, he's quite humourous when he gets really crazy. and yet, somehow, he has the uncanny ability to not push people over.

for one who claims over and over to not be a fan of the features, your behaviour is puzzling. You attend shows, you get on the mb and try to poke fun at people, and when it's all said and done, you're nowhere near as good at ruffling feathers as Sinna. It sounds like you may have a slightly obsessive hatred for a group of people. You may even be a fascist... huh.gif

well i never thought there would come a day when someone would be ridiculed for being a fan of the band. yes, i am enthusiastic. yes, i pump my fist in the air (especially during the "and the band played" part of "walk you home") and, yes, somehow during my spastic dancing i dont hit a single individual ( i think i stepped on someone's shoe one time during the last show). i love this band. what can i say? this is one of the greatest bands to ever walk the face of the earth. if you cant see that, then may god have mercy on your soul.

Went to the show. Hated Airline (only saw two songs). Slightly enjoyed The Lucky Guns. The Features were exceptionally good that night. I also noticed that the crowd was disproportional. On one side there were the hardcore fans who really "showed their love" for the band and really made the night enjoyable. On the other side were the people who just stood there and did not partake in clapping or any motor response of any kind and were near the front of the crowd. It seemed as though these people outnumbered the fans who usually scream and shout. This was just my observation from the bar. I did notice a very large amount of people just sitting back and absorbing the music who clapped and had a good time. Glad to notice that everyone behaved themselves the other night. I was pleased. Then I went back to Nashville and listened to The New Pornographers.

Ray Davies: So you're the guy who always goes insane at the shows. Im sure the band appreciates your enthusiasm and it seems as though you add to the overall experience of the show in a positive manner. You're not annoying in the least. I've seen you at other shows and almost said hello. Maybe next time I'll buy you a beer.

This show was awesome. The sound was great, much better than the red rose and the boro, not as good as slow bar, and it probably would have sounded better had I not been standing directly underneath the main speakers. I don't mind sacrificing sound quality to stand up front and rock out with my friends (and apparently annoy the rest of you). I'm not quite as spastic as Ray Davies, but I try. I love the new song. It definitely has a different feel from the rest of their new material.

I like the new song as well. So much so, that I had been hoping it would be on the new album. I think it has that "1st single" feel to it. However, I guess since there are no words yet, we'll have to wait for album #2. It could honestly be my new fav. song if they don't screw things up.

I would like to see a study of the Features to know how many songs Matt Pelham has debuted with no words in mind--just improvising. Of those, I'd like to know what small percentage actually made it for a 2nd show. "Oh My Love" comes to mind as the only one I can think of that made it past a 1st appearance. "Harder to Ignore" might have been one.

Guilty.

I'm sorry I helped ruin the Inferno show for you, stopforme.

I think our "tandem choreography," silly hand motions, and such have probably seen their day, anyway. They were fun at first, but now I'm tired of them.

I will probably continue to stand at the front, yell, dance, and clap, however, so you might want to steer clear. I spend most of my time being underenthused, so it's nice to come out to a Features show and get excited from time to time.

yes, it was. but, instrumentally, something malfunctioned in the middle. so it's more like we got pieces of the song, but the song nonetheless.

first of all, it is often argued, but i am allowed to say what i want. whether its positive or negative shouldnt matter. i have an opinion, call it "mean," or what you will, but my point is not to be mean, but rather to express how i feel. i am bothered. so what? he doesnt have to change his behavior, no one does, and they probably wont. but im not going to change mine either. however, i do my best to be as understated and respectful as possible in every venue of my life [except for on this message board]. if i ever did anything to bother anyone at a show, in a movie, driving on the road, i would be extremely embarassed. i guess im just venting about the people that act the opposite. i agree that i am overly affected by crowds at shows. i probably have had thoughts of murder at shows with extra amounts of morons [not always at features shows]. i am just sensitive to people that exude certain attitudes, and i think that i made that opinion clear months ago. no, i have never talked to any of these people, but i wouldnt associate with them if i went to school with them or worked with them either simply by judging how they present themselves here and in public.

secondly, i assume you are comparing me to sina because we both "stir up shit" on the message board. however, i think that our behaviors and intentions are very different. not to say that she does, but i dont try to just be a bitch. i am being honest, and if you think that my honesty and opnions make me a bitch then thats fine. i judge you too. but do not assume that i am ever being mean for the sake of being mean or causing drama.

token, you can really do whatever you want, and so can the rest of you. im not going to make a scene because, you see, its not my style. as long as you are comfortable doing what youre doing, keep doing it, but realize that other people notice and are affected. i dont know what i expect as acceptable concert behavior, all i know is what bothers and distracts me- thats the only reason why i mentioned all of this in the first place.

lastly, i like the features. it was a joke.

Hey man,
I like you already, and im being serious.
My post was more about the briefness of applause when everyone is such hardcore message board fans. I sometimes get annoyed with people who "over-do" it at concerts. Not just the features. Maybe its because of my lack of abilities to dance, or move or whatever, but I understand where u are coming from. Granted, everyone can do what they want at shows. And again, I dont think that someone's fan-ness can be comparable to how much you clap, or dance or how long you stand in one spot before the show. We all love the features for different reasons. Some fans appreciate the music for the aesthetic appeal, they wouldnt know what the difference b/w an augmented chord and a dimished chord. Others, just like the music. WHo really knows what draws certain people to music besides it sounds good. And others really just want to shake thier asses. But whatever the reason.....Congrats, we've chosen a Friggen awesome band to follow.

Lets just clap more at the end of the songs....ok?

I just wanna say that the show was absolutely GREAT!!!!! I was so pumped. An I like to think of myself as one of the fans that actually dance my ass off.. lol But I don't think it matters if you dance or not.. some people just aren't dancers. They are more relaxed audience memebers and that's cool with me. The features just get me so energized! The point is were all getting out supporting them! So keep it up. smile.gif

The set list was so fucking great too! The new song rocks!

stopforme, I gave you crap about your evil cell-phone comment, so I might as well let you know when I agree with you. And I agree with you on this... almost completely. There are certain dances/actions/movements that make me crack up at Features shows. It annoys me because the people look so stupid and I end up laughing instead of watching/listening to the band. Of course I don't want anyone to change their actions and I realize this is my problem, not theirs. In fact, this is the reason I don't break out my "dance moves" at concerts. I am 100% sure I will look like a moron. Besides, I enjoy just bobbing my head, standing still, heck, I've even been known to sit down and listen at a show or two. However for the most part, its cool to see the high energy shaking/dancing that most of the fans show. And while I'll prolly never get energetic enough to jump around for more than 1 song a setlist, I admire 80% of the people that do.

As far as the extended clapping/shouting at the end of the songs goes: I agree that maybe we should show our appreciation more. However, I do get sick of clapping for 5 minutes waiting for the inevitable encore.

I like the clapping in see you through... I'll clap all night long. as far as the energy level during a song goes, Who cares, I have pet peeves, just like the next person, by no means should anyone feel obligated to "tone it down" just because a certain dance move annoys me.

Stopforme said she was a very unconfrontational person off the message board, and I'd like to add that I'm the same way (although I really don't think I'm that confrontation ON the message board) there's no way I'd ever say something to someone about their dancing or whatever at a show. If I can keep my cool when beer is being splashed on me, there's no way I'm gonna make a big deal to someone whose dancing slightly irks me.

im so tired of see you through. i wish that more moderation was used with that song. i think that clapping with any other song, especially dark room, is unncessary, no matter who claps in the band. i think its stupid that claps have to be added to almost every song, and think about how intimidating that can be for first-timers who dont know whats going on and feel stupid. if we are worried about scaring people away, i think that should be considered.

If someone new is going to be intimidated by people clapping along with the band, then they don't deserve to like the band. That's just idiot logic. Yeah, it startled me when I first saw everyone clapping, but I enjoyed being able to do it at the next show.

im so tired of see you through.  i wish that more moderation was used with that song.  i think that clapping with any other song, especially dark room, is unncessary, no matter who claps in the band.  i think its stupid that claps have to be added to almost every song, and think about how intimidating that can be for first-timers who dont know whats going on and feel stupid.  if we are worried about scaring people away, i think that should be considered.

i dont have a problem with dancing.  i dance.  im talking about the people who overdo it for attention.  its not enthusiasm that bothers me, digsy, its you.

any more questions?
If someone new is going to be intimidated by people clapping along with the band, then they don't deserve to like the band. That's just idiot logic.
i guess im an idiot. please explain this to me.
Well, of course you understand. You seem to get easily pissed off, be it someone dancing, someone clapping, someone making Features ringtones, any little thing seems to make you snappy. A normal person doesn't care if people dance in their own protective bubbles, clap during songs, or feel like doing whatever in their own time. Basically, if you are so uptight that people clapping alongside a band completely offends and scares you enough to completely forget about the music being played and turns you off of the band, then you weren't into the music anyway.

But whatever. From now on, I'm going to just stand still right in front of the stage and not move a muscle except between songs, when I will applaud nonstop from the moment the music stops until the moment the next song begins. And this isn't directed at Joey, MarkSpencer, or any of the other people who started this topic. You guys are cool.

Well, if that were the case, I know a lot of people who wouldn't be going to Features shows these days, because they never would have gone for the second time after being so awfully humiliated for being left out in the clapping portion of See You Through. That is one of the dumbest fucking things I have ever heard, and no, I'm not holding back. Sure, I didn't know what the fuck was going on when people started doing it at the first Features show that I went to, but I wasn't scared like a five year old when they lose their mom at the grocery store. I laughed, because I was shocked that so many other people knew what they were doing. The next time, I was ready for it, and had fun clapping. Yep, I had fun clapping. I know that makes me somehow retarded or unworthy of liking a band, but I am oh so sorry for offending you Ms. almighty StopForMe. Please forgive me if you ever can. The difference that I see between you and Sina is that Sina is almost always joking, most people just can't tell. You just like to poke fun for no real reason.

I first saw The Features last year at The Boro....my friend Malinda took me because she said they were I band I would really enjoy. Half of the fun of The Features are the live shows, and I was impressed by how excited they make the crowd. I am now one of those people that bounce around like a monkey on crack, clapping and yelling when I'm supposed to, as well as when I'm not. It's a fun release, I just lose myself in the music and the atmpsphere. I'm always physically and emotionally spent by the end of every show, and I wouldn't have it any other way...no other band makes me feel that energetic when I hear them live.

You are saying things that you should keep to yourself. You may not be meaning to, but you act like you are intentionally trying to alienate people. It makes you seem rude, which you have yet to disprove thus far.

"Quote"

At first, yes. Actually, I haven't really had any reason to like you ever since you gave Carl all of that bullshit a few months ago. Since then, I've noticed that you like to bitch first, and face the consequences later.

"Quote"

Partially. I think you can be mean, but only by what seems to be a lack of comment editing. I just don't think you make any great strides to be nice on here. And, I do remember once upon a time when I was going to introduce myself at the Ackland party and say hello because I thought it would be a nice thing to do, but someone tipped me off that you had "no intentions of meeting me or any of those other people." So, thanks for giving me the heads up, unintentionally.

"Quote"
if so, then thats fine.
I suppose, but I really get no joy from being unfriendly to people. I would rather have it the other way.

"Quote"
but maybe you should look past your anger before responding if you arent giving any consideration to anything that ive said except the "mean" stuff about your friends.
I wasn't really that angry, just moreso anxious to call out your overly critical comments of people that you should just leave alone.

"Quote"

Yes, and so were you last night, but let's not allow that to get in the way of things. Oh, and you weren't poking fun? Not at Ray Davies? Not at anyone? My mistake then. I should recognize better when somebody's being a jerk and when someone is poking fun. I won't make that mistake again. Like right now, for example, I'm being a jerk. But, it doesn't bother me, because I assume you can just as easily receive as you can dish out. If not, please let me know. I would hate to offend you.

Clapping? I think it's a neat way to participate in a show. I remember when I was new to Features shows. I was getting into it, and then they'd sing these songs where the audience just knew when to sing, "Starlight, star bright," and "YaDaDaDa." (this was long before clapping). I remember thinking that this was just another neat way to participate in the show. When clapping came along and people were starting to do it, it added to the enjoyment of the show.

Since when has "See You Thru" been an oldie, as Matt called it the other night?

honestly, this is one argument i never thought i'd see on the messageboard. i mean, too much enthusiasm?! c'mon. i'm sure the band really hates it when people dance and clap along to songs. i'm sure it makes them really uncomfortable. and here i was thinking that i was supporting them.
so what the band really wants is to look out into the crowd during "see you through" and see a bunch of scarecrows? instead of the "yadadada's," crickets churping? instead of pumping fists, tumbleweeds rolling through the venue? i'm sure that'd make them feel like they're doing a really swell job.
this also sounds a lot like a matter of personal preference. so you'd prefer if people didn't dance or clap or do anything that may annoy you, make you uncomfortable or inconvenience you in any way. gotcha. i'll take note of that. i'd prefer it if people didn't stand too close to me. and it makes me uncomfortable when people spill beer on me. also, it's way too much of an iconvenience to drive all the way to nashville to shows. let's just have them at my house from now on. can everyone take note of these things for me?.....what? no? why's that? ...oh, it's because nobody cares. what? you can't cater an entire show around one person's preferences? well shit. that's annoying.
i've definitely come to learn (come to learn being the key phrase in this statement) that 99% of the time, a show is what you make of it. if you have a bad time, then it's your own damn fault. so annoy me. step on my foot. push in front of me. pour your entire beer on me. bump into me as many times as you'd like while you're grinding/swooshing/jumping/seisuring. i'll take it all in as part of that show's experience. and it'll be all the more fun for it.

For the record:

1) Stopforme did give me a lot of unncessary flack a few months back before I had ever met her

2) I do strive to be a likable guy

3) Stopforme's opinions on enthusiasm are laughable to me

4) For some reason, I still think stopforme is great and I enjoy her company

I'd like to thank HSS and richarddawson for expressing my opinion on this topic so eloquently. I would just like to add: hating other people for their enjoyment of life suggests that one has a very negative attitude and/or issues with self confidence. So, you wouldn't be friends with someone because they choreograph stupid dance moves to entertain themselves? Does it get any more hateful and sad than that? People are entitled to act moronic, and it actually might not be to get attention or to piss you off. They might actually just be happy. Perhaps you should try it some time- it can be liberating to stop wasting energy on what looks "cool" and "unembarassing" and just have fun.

i love to dance
the features seem to have an amazing ability to make people dance.
i know from my own experience that nashville is a hard crowd, and it is not easy to get it dancing. the fact that the features transcend the "arms crossed standing still" persona of the average music fan in this town is incredible.
and although it can be a distraction from time to time when someone really goes crazy, it is such behavior that makes a record label really want to get behind a band. i think we should all just be glad that things are not like they were in the 60's when you usually couldn't even hear the music at shows because every girl there would scream at the top of her lungs from beginning to end.
i do wish that dances like the jitterbug and the twist would come back. why can't shows be like dance parties all the time? i mean, how many times do you have to "watch" a band before you can almost script their visual performance? watching the crowd while listening to the music shouldn't ruin a show. dancing is celebration of life and music. not all enjoy doing it, but we should all enjoy someones expression of support for the joys of life - namely good music. people who don't dance can alwayys enjoy the show in their own way, but it seems that they would be happy for those enjoying the show in a more active way.

some people go to raves to hit on girls, some go to hear good techno, some go for drugs, or just the social scene, but they never complain about the people who go just to dance their butts off. and i think that that is how it should be.

i think we need a dance revival to sweep through the scene. and those who don't bust a move can just cherish the good vibes of those who do.

peace out

if i ever did anything to bother anyone at a show, in a movie, driving on the road, i would be extremely embarassed....i am just sensitive to people that exude certain attitudes...no, i have never talked to any of these people, but i wouldnt associate with them if i went to school with them or worked with them either simply by judging how they present themselves here and in public...as long as you are comfortable doing what youre doing, keep doing it, but realize that other people notice and are affected.
I appreciate that you're not trying to convince people to change their behavior, but I stand but what I said.

it ruins a show for me to see morons being over-enthused, doing hand motions to sign the lyrics, clapping way too much [within songs], doing tandem coreography, punching arms in the air at key "yeah" points in the songs, and agreeing with each other between songs about how good the last song was and guessing what the next song will be.
Since I don't know how to quote 2 different posts at once...part of what makes it seem sad is that it "ruins a show" for you. That sucks, and I can't help but think if you relaxed a bit about how you think others should act, you might enjoy yourself more.

Pssst--you should try to invoke more dancing at your shows...

I'm flattered that I'm liked by Sina. I wasn't totally sure, but maybe it's just by association to wife and brother that I'm liked. Maybe we should all post lists of likes/don't likes (in another thread, of course). I personally would use it to post my dislike of that bastard, cub11. I would also use it to say that I like Lauren.

then prove it! i think we should have a messageboard dance-off at the next show. everyone could gather in a circle and take turns dancing in the middle of it. but watch out! i've been watching the wade robson project nonstop. i've even mastered the "whoosh pop! fthoom fthoom pah!" vocals that go along with the moves. that's right. bring it on.

or, wait, did i misjudge your statement? were you being sarcastic? or is it really just okay to dance moderately? it's just the degree of dancing you'd like everyone to monitor then. because if this was the point you were originally getting at, then stirring up shit over something as ridiculous as that seems like way more of a "pathetic method of getting attention" than enthusiastic dancing.

but if you weren't being sarcastic, i should also warn everyone that i own darrin's dance grooves.

At first, yes. Actually, I haven't really had any reason to like you ever since you gave Carl all of that bullshit a few months ago. Since then, I've noticed that you like to bitch first, and face the consequences later.
indeed. i don't really know carl, but that shit made me dislike you, because from what I can tell, carl is a likeable guy.
someone's confused and i hope carl's 4 steps helped end the confusion about the fact that we love stopforme.

to keep from causing any more unneccesary confusion, i will now make a list of all the people on the message board that i like.

carligula
rhinestonecowboy
stopforme
richarddawson
foldsfan
peacefrog
.....
That better not be in any kind of order. Number 5 and behind Ricardo? No way.
you're number 1 in my heart!

how's that?!?!

SERIOUSLY!!! I guess I can give you the benefit of the doubt....or is it because I love the Beatles that you're scorning your own sister? Huh????
maybe i left lauren off because i was tired of lying. lauren is not real. i know that lauren and carl are a package deal and it's time every knows that "lauren" is the feminine side of carl. yes, "lauren" is the one who performs at connections and the chute.

i'm glad i got that off my chest.

Get them drunk and play in a place small enough that everybody is packed in together. But primarily, get them drunk.

And you know if you had more disco beats that more people would dance...hmm...HMM

It doesn't bother me that they are missing, but if you want people to dance, disco beats would certainly help that situation.

You are saying things that you should keep to yourself. You may not be meaning to, but you act like you are intentionally trying to alienate people. It makes you seem rude, which you have yet to disprove thus far.

I wasn't really that angry, just moreso anxious to call out your overly critical comments of people that you should just leave alone.

your last sentence, for instance, is amazing.
It should be noted that these two are roommates now.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Well, Since you asked...I can fill you in on two of us. I'm still randomly checking this thing for some reason. Hoping the features may come back and play a show in my neighborhood.... I'm Mark Spencer76, Grungeslobtearpants, and Mr September. You may remember me... I'm living in california working as some audio visual guy at a major technology corporation. Weenysmack..... well she's the reason i had the aliases......and she's in Maryland writing for a newspaper. She doesn't have internet anymore, so that's maybe why she doesn't periodically add her 2 cents. The rest, maybe they'll show up sometime.....

Actually, the day I wrote that message, she got a phone line and is back on dial up. Anyway, I'm certain that at her daily work she has internet, just not really to be used for features messageboard posting.

I understand your parallels carl, with internet and newspapers, both are media sources. I don't really think though, that being able to write a good informative story for a newspaper has much to do with having personal internet. Although she hasn't covered tent or barn raising events yet, it really does not require a web browser to drive to where a newsworthy event is occuring, whether it be a traffic accident or some community event, and write a story using real people as references.
