Oh My Love

Another wonderful evening. It was so impressive to see a packed house for the second night in a row. Was it just me, or did the band (especially Matt) seem a wee bit more excited on stage tonight than last night? I'm sure they were happy to be playing contemporary material again!

**Any help on deciphering the lyrics to the new-and-yet-unnamed songs would be greatly appreciated!**

Sounds like there were loads of great songs played yesterday night, too. I hope RD managed to record this one as well...

Oh, and is Psycho Killer a Talking Heads cover, or is that just a coincidence?

THANK YOU FEATURES!!!!

Both nights were fantastic, but I was dead tired Friday night, so last night's show was the more enjoyable for me.

Highlight of Friday: Opening with Paid to Think. I'd never heard it live, and I have always loved that song. Also, getting to hear Your Smile again rocked. Even if they didn't do the dance, Yadadada did, and he was quite entertaining.

Highlight of Saturday: Getting to hear them cover Psycho Killer. It's been a much discussed song, but I had missed out until last night.

Not sure what I think of Love is Golden. I have to admit, I really don't like it as a song title. However, I will reserve judgment until I hear it many more times.

Don't worry about it, kiddo. I didn't find it bothersome. I'm very proud of myself for resisting the urge to push you over when you'd squat down to talk on the phone. I'm glad you managed to smuggle yourself into the show.

After the magic of the previous evening's performance, it seemed a bit strange to be "getting back to normal." Matt talked to the audience more in the last two shows than he has in the last two years combined. That always makes me happy because I think he has a personality hidden under that reserved persona he wears on stage.

Oh, and get this... I didn't hate Snowglobe. I tried to, but I ended up kind of liking them. For some strange reason, a huge wave of happiness washed over me during their set, and I think they benefited from that... but, hey, whatever. I liked their stuff, and any band that features a trumpet player definitely scores style points. (By the way, I noticed that he was black. I'm sorry if that makes me a racist.)

I heard that the new songs don't have titles or lyrics as of yet...

Love is Golden sounded even better last night. The "newest" song that's rather rhythmic is great. I love all of the new material they're coming out with.

haha... i saw that guy...

I enjoyed snowglobe and searay very much. Snowglobe sounded like they listen to a lot of James McMurtry, who I enjoy, and when Searay had the answering machine clip coupled with keyboards and a projector, it felt very floydian.

the Features rock!
Definitly a great show. It may be my last show until they are world known and play in northern CA. (unless they play again in the next month). The sound from where I was standing was AMAZING, mixed very well. I regret saying anything about Inferno being even remotely as good.

You werent annoying Rachel. I guess weenysmack and I were standing near you, and tom F and well, im sure many other MB members. I did crack a smile when you told your mom you'd be late. You must have an awesome mom!

Anyway, If it really is my last features show, it was definitly a great one to end on.

yes, and I'm not ashamed to take 90% of the credit for "operation: rachel" either.

by the way, here are just a few observations from the 12th and porter weekend.

1.) If it comes down to it, the features are most definitely worth going solo for.
2.) The balcony sounded surprisingly better than the front row
3.) Sitting down can be just as enjoyable as standing up (especially for us lazy people)
4.) most of the message board members I met seemed to be really nice people
5.) roger looks much cooler with the beard thing goin on

yeah i had a fantastic time at both nights as well.
friday was great just because all of those songs that i had never been exposed to and those old favorites. i wish "Paid To Think," "Jurley" and "Harold" could be added to their "play more often" section. Oh well. the addition of "Action" and "Speed of 33 1/3" was alright i suppose...i just am kinda miffed they didnt play "D-Con." guess we'll never get that lucky. Met some new people and it was overall very very fun.

saturday was fantastic as well. as awesome as hearing all those buried treasures was on friday, listening to saturday night reminded me just how fucking lucky us fans are that almost every song of theirs is PURE MAGIC. "dark room," "temporary blues," "the beginning," "god save rock and roll" i mean the list goes on and on...we are so lucky. ran into some old...friends...and met even more new people. fun fun fun.

i love the features. so so much.

what a blast i had this weekend!!! Kick ass shows with lots of energy and surprises. I can't believe they played psycho killer. i thought sina was gonna go psycho on that dude yelling for it.
it was great to see jamie, miked, roadie, freezetag, smee, bluntman and anyone else i failed to mention. where in the hell were lawnwrangler and stephaniew??? i missed you guys. i also missed keith. i sure didn't miss the drunk guys that came all the way from chicago only to rag on the features and grab my butt and mess up my friend's hair. she was a feature's virgin-what a great weekend to deflower her!
you know what is sad-matt came up to me before the show and said "I can't believe people actually want to hear us again-I wouldn't want to hear us two nights in a row." That is funny because they are the only band I would want to see two nights in a row. Thanks again guys for an awesome weekend-i love the features!!!!

Hey Pelham, there's really no need to be the Charlie Brown of rock music. I get it, you're complicated and prone to brooding, self doubt & similar fluff. But seriously, GET OVER IT! I know that you know, deep down, you're a bad muther fucker. You'll never admit it; that's fine and expected. Just don't ever forget that you know, I know, all of us here know, just how gifted and musically perfect you and your band are. Maybe you just need a vacation, silly boy.

I haven't been able to post due to my 72 Hours of Rock weekend, but I finally can.

Holy cheese-whiz do I love this band. I mean...they...I...they played "Temporary Blues" without us having to vote for it or me having to beg Matt. And when Rollum said "We can do better than that!" after Psycho Killer, he actually got Matt to do another encore. Amazing. I just...man...I'm without words to describe how amazing the Features are (as always).

If you dislike the Features, you dislike music. That's about it.

I went up to him after the second show and thanked him for giving us a chance to hear all the oldies. He said something along the lines of "well, i can't believe you guys actually wanted to hear all that crap." Matt was 10x more modest and appreciative than he really had to be. I sometimes wonder if they really do how great they are. I was thinking last night about how weird it would be to see them on t.v. And, while some of you may disagree, I fully expect to see them on the Grammys in a year or two.

Well, I tried to upload "Love Is Golden" to the mp3 site, but as always, the site treated me like a bitch. So, it's not there. The newest of the new songs (the failed attempt) simply is one of the most stellar songs I've heard out of the Features in a while. It is awesome. Since I have been busy with the bootlegs (which are done, but I don't have any blank cds as of now), I've yet to post my comments on the shows, so here goes...

1. Parrish kicked more ass than my mind can comprehend. Many kudos to his new ideas, particularly on Damage is Done, the end of Serious, the heavier parts of Love Is Golden, and the newest new song.

2. Sina made fun of the bad dancer as I wished she would, thank you to her.

3. Jurley's lyrics do suck, Keith, but the song still sounds awesome.

4. I have never heard a better version of Action in my life.

5. Paid To Think should be played on a regular basis.

6. The premise for Friday's show should never be repeated.

I'm forgetting some other stuff, but I'll remember it later.

Well, since you mentioned it, I guess I'll go ahead and put this out there: I have in my posession at this time a very crisp, very nice recording of the FRIDAY, 11-7 show. I want to distribute it, BUT...I don't have unlimited time to spend making CDs and going to the post office. So let's do this: I will send a copy of the show (on CD) to the first four people who PM me with their mailing address. Hopefully those 4 people will be generous in further distributing the show to others who want it. I won't call it a "tree," but...you get the picture.

Keith, I've already got a copy made for you.

The SATURDAY, 11-8 show is forthcoming...

Sorry for going AWOL on you guys! I regret to inform you that this hidden little offer is now officially closed. The winners have been notified. I will not publicly reveal their identities, but hopefully nonetheless they will do their duty in "spreading the love."

Also, just because this offer is over does not mean that 1) another offer will not be made by me in the not-too-distant future when I have more time available 2) the man himself (the blightman, that is) will not appear and offer to distribute the show himself, or 3) some other well-connected individual with a recording of the show will not surface and offer to hook you up.

Dammit! I want a recording of that show, badly. hopefully someone will be nice eniough to share.

This might be a good time to get BitTorrent going.

How many of you use Kaaza or Gnutella or some other peer-to-peer software? Would that be a good way to share some shows?

Nope, I really do hate P2P. And with the RIAA suing randomly, now's definitely not the time to change my ways...

With BitTorrent, would we be able to get them in MP3 form, on our computers? Not some crappy temporal stream?

With BitTorrent.....
what is BitTorrent? What about posting the show on the MP3 page?

BitTorrent is some program that downloads files to your computer really fast. Or something...I actually never used it myself but loads of people do these days. Primarily to download movies, cartoons, etc. That being said I'd rather have it uploaded to some webspace for download for a little while...that would be most convenient.

I used to have that really crappy page with features mp3s on it through angelfire, they give 50 megs per page, and can have multiple pages until they catch you.

JC, You're so awesome for spreading the Features love around that I have a little present for you. Just click here.

BitTorrent is another one of those evil P2P programs. It works differently because instead of going out and searching for what you want, you subscribe to a "channel" and download everything it has. For example, we could start a channel called "The Features." You would subscribe to it, go to sleep, and wake up in the morning with a hard drive full of Features bootlegs.

I prefer P2P for distributing the files instead of web space because P2P makes it easier to download large files and web space providers get weirded out when you post MP3's on them.

Why thank you, TF! You're too kind. Love Hewitt certainly does like to show off her tounge, it seems.

To those who have sent me a pm about the shows...If I haven't gotten in touch with you yet, it's not because I'm ignoring you. I've been preoccupied the past few days, and I plan on working with you. It just might take a couple more days. Thanks

Agreed, it's my personal favorite. I hate seeing shows at the Exit/In, so that's out. The End is too small. The Boro and the Red Rose are out of the question, according to band reps. 12th & Porter is my favorite for them in Nashville; but the Inferno Bar defeats them all, sound being the major reason. For atmosphere, I would love to see them at the Sutler, but no one would be allowed to stand in the front. It would rule.
