*Apparently, Matt was "really sick" and could "barely play this show." At this point in the set, he actually had to leave the stage and take care of some business. But, like the pro he is, he returned. Get well soon, Matt!

**The first documented occurance of stage-diving/crowd-surfing at a Features show. Does anyone know the people who were doing this? I didn't recognize them. In any event, when the band returned to the stage for the encore, Matt announced that the crowd needed to tone it down a bit so that no one would get hurt.

Personal observations: It was great to see the Features after such a long break (my last Features show was 11-8-2003)...I thought that the band did a nice job of mixing in some "less obvious" songs from their catalog, so let's not peg the Features as totally predictable just yet...Man, I think nearly every person that I know in Middle Tennessee was at this show...Roger Dabbs, you're still the best, and you're still my mentor...I was going to eat at 12th&P tonight, but then I remembered that they recently failed their health inspection for the THIRD consecutive time and will soon be shut down by the Health Dept...Did ya'll see On Command? "Eat, shit, die, motherfucker!"

I enjoyed seeing the Features for the second time this week! I was also glad I got in to 12th & Porter...

I do think the set still has some diversity to it. Although I'm a relatively new Features fan, I'd noticed that some songs got played less in the last few monthes and are now back ("Me & The Skirts" seemed to disappear for a while, I think). Anyway, it was lovely fun and there were tons of people there. The Features were awesome as always, and I liked the Eighth Grade. I think I could have lived without ever hearing On Command, but their song titles were funny.

I was thinking the same thing. Sometimes I think they read this board or just magically know what the fans want.

Me and my asshole friends had a great time thrashing around up front.

I need to resist the urge to request Someway, Somehow at every show. Sorry about that. I will point out that the one show I attended and didn't call for it (this past thursday), it was not played. That's right, I am single-handedly keeping this song alive.

Blistering encore. I'm digging the shorter encores.

I didn't enjoy the 8th Grade too much, except for their intro & exit messages. Those reminded me of a cross between the movie theater "We request that you take a moment to look around the theater and familiarize yourself with the location of all emergency exit signs" thing, mixed with some of the announcer from the Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn. All of their songs sounded the same to me, and the singer had a semi-annoying voice that was hampered by issues staying in tune.

On Command took me by surprise - I didn't know what to expect. Once they started playing, lots of people went towards the door. I guess they came back for The Features, but they couldn't handle On Command rocking ass...lol

If Matt was sick, (other than him leaving the stage for a minute) I wasn't able to tell a difference. In fact, I thought they were tighter than at almost any other show I've seen them play. I love The Features.

I only caught glimpses of a few MB members (i think) in that huge crowd because I was keeping my seat at the bar most of the show. It was SO crowded that I didn't want to get stuck in the middle of that can of sardines and try to fight my way through to the bathroom and to the bar every time. I did get to see Featuresgirl & SoundAsEver (maybe Secret Vixen too?), and I'm sure I caught glimpses of Keith, Carl, Roadie and a few others in the fray.

Great show!

not a fan of the 8th grade. but on command i found to be hilarious. i hope they open for the features again. all the unnecessary grinding, jumping, and licking...entertaining to say the least.

for some reason i was into this features show a lot more than the thursday show, even though i felt that they were definitely more rocking on thursday. i was very happy to get stagecoach (sorry, digsy). and "love is golden" continues to amaze me.

and jc, just for the sake of correctness, i believe it was rollum who provided us with "the entertainer" during matt's break. unless i was hallucinating...

all in all, my third features show this week was a great one!

I liked "On Command!". I could watch any of them and be fully entertained. Dallas kicked ass, my admiration for William Tyler is undaunting, the drummer girl was extra-cool, the bass player fit in perfectly (yeah, that's right), and the lead singer was a true badass. As far as the music, it left a little to be desired after a few songs, but "Eat Shit and Die Motherfucker" was great! Other song titles like "Fuck With Disdain" were right up there with it. And the singer leaving the stage before the end of the last song and returning only to say "If anybody wants to buy me a beer, you can" was possibly only overshadowed by Dallas' boot on Ray Davies chest. Highly entertaining.

The 8th Grade were lame-o to the max. Sucky lyrics, and they thought they were a lot better than their songs actually are. The announcement things were gay. I didn't like the drummer.

As for the Features, I do like Mosis Ptosis a lot more than the first time they played it at Wall Street. Love Is Golden is still great, but I don't know if I'm used to the small changes yet. Roger played really well last night and Matt reverted to his more recognized style of singing, as opposed to the newer stuff we got at the Inferno Bar. I like both though.

I agree with Poohbear's Girl about the 8th Grade. I liked the interludes announcements. The rest...well, I'd rather have been sleeping.

I was really tired last night. I was entertained by On Command. I'm tired of all these little pop bands that spring up and open for the Features. They all open for the Features and bore me to tears. I'd rather have an On Command or Del Giovanni Clique, even if I'd never buy their CDs or see a full set, just because they're so into their shows and sold into their respective styles that it is entertaining. I guess Lucky Guns would fit in there, but they are just painful to me.

I was so tired that I didn't really get into the Features. It was a good set, and they were playing really well.

I agree on all points.

Last night was my first night to here Mosis Ptosis and I thought it was grand. Love is Golden was really, really great last night. Also, thanks to rob and (inadvertently) Sina for the drink.

JC, that sucks about the food at 12th...it is sooo yummy! Guess that is their secret! I liked your little joke-whenever I crave a brie covered pizza, I shall hear that resonate through my ears and avoid it. I am sad I missed the show. great show. i had an excellent time although it always seemed like i had something annoying in front of me for the majority of the show.
most of the time it was annoying gap girls who had no clue who the features were probably and were busting out "i dont know how to dance other than shaking my boobs and ass around." while that dance works sometimes, i just wasnt feeling it for the features.
oh and then they started jumping which was also annoying enough in fact that Sina pushed me into them. thankfully they stopped after that. so...uh...good work sina. ask me before you do it next time though...makes you look less like a jerk and more like a hero.
the drunk moshers were quaint.
it was strange though. even though iwantevlis is pretty much the only messgaeboard person ive talked to (who is quite nice), i felt a sort of commradship towards the end of the show seeing all of your nameless faces. i would really like to meet all of you at some point. maybe next time though.

anyway, i love them features and i cant wait till they get done rocking the east and come back home.
Eh.

I was going to eat at 12th&P tonight, but then I remembered that they recently failed their health inspection for the THIRD consecutive time and will soon be shut down by the Health Dept
The major health violation could be simply something like leaving cleaners on the floor instead of in a bucket in the closet...or it could be rats in the refrigerator.

Anyway, I didn't eat there (not for that reason), but I wanted to.

I feel the same way. This show was quite fantastic. Very nice set.

I could see the look of disapproval in Matt's eyes when the one section of the crowd got a little too rowdy, and I was very happy he said something about it. I was also delighted by Rollum's little rendition of "The Entertainer".

I wasn't a fan of The Eighth Grade. I occasionally found the drummer to have amusing facial expressions though. On Command...Well, I wish those motherfuckers would eat shit and die. I only found a few of their little gestures amusing. I would rather see The Lucky Guns, and that's pretty bad coming from me.

Mosis Ptosis is really starting to grow on me. I hope this tune remains in rotation for a while. Some have speculated that this song is drawn from baby talk, but I've discovered via google that "mosis" and "ptosis" are medical terms apparently related to the head.

http://www.digital-fx.ca/cme/neuro/neur-vi...irtprof6a1.html (See d.) C )

pto·sis ( P ) Pronunciation Key (tss)
n. pl. pto·ses (-sz)
Abnormal lowering or drooping of an organ or a part, especially a drooping of the upper eyelid caused by muscle weakness or paralysis.

I thought this was interesting.

Interesting: yes. New information: no.

I will take full credit for the spelling of the song (although I do not assume it will ever be the official spelling). I spelled it Ptosis for that exact same reason (I pointed this out on another thread). I'm not trying to be a dick and fault you for not reading every single post here. I mean, jeez, only a loser would have time for that.

I just want it to be known that it has been verified that the name of song is indeed baby talk from Matt's daughters. It's something they say when they are able to do something or want to do something. This is pretty evident from the lyrics. Like I said, my spelling was sort of a joke and I came up with it before I had any idea what the song was about.

Feel free to continue using my spelling, though.

Edit: I just followed your link and discovered that "mosis" was also included as a symptom of a headache along with "ptosis". That is an amazing coincidence!!! I have to investigate this...

great show. i really really like mosis ptosis. and though i disliked it before, love is golden is becoming more enjoyable. ok, maybe just the middle part.
i loved having circus and god save rock n roll at the end.

on command! owned the whole time they were on stage. dallace's guitar skills are maxxed out. their drummer won me over with her tommy lee drum stick twirling. and mike licking and grinding the microphone stand was fucking great. and i thoroughly enjoyed the bass player, i barely took my eyes off of him long enough to see dallace raise a leg on ray davies.

and good times were had at the ihop, no thanks to smee!

Good to hear. This will in no way interfere with my enjoyment of 7 cheese pizza - the only thing on their menu I truly treasure.

I will be sure, however, to refrain from chicken at the good ol' 12th and P. Unfortunately, I may not get to eat their again if they get shut down.

Hopefully their bar is more clean. I frequent that area more often.

Same here! You would think that every drummer would do it sometime, but she was the first local one that I've seen do it.

Goddamn, y'all had pancakes two nights in a row?!
Pancakes are totally different from waffles, RD.

This reminds me of a thread from the days of old (of course I tried to find it and of course it's been erased...tell us the truth!) where we were trying to set up what would've been the first ever message board meeting after a Features show at the Boro in 2002. We were trying to decide between Waffle House and IHOP. After much debate, we decided on the Murfreesboro IHOP. But no one showed up.

Anyway, I think we should have group trips after Features shows more often, because I love doing that!

Agreed.

After last Friday's trip, I think the next logical step for post-Privates show activites would be Ken's Gold Club.

I remember that! Fun times. I pushed and pushed for IHOP, then The Features took forever to take stage at the Boro and the show ended at like 2:30. Facing a long drive to Chattanooga, I had to bail on the IHOP.

I regret it still.

On Command? No thanks. If I wanted to see a bunch of ugly dumbfucks who cant write music then I'll just watch "The Decline of Western Civilization".

Grinding is good, but not on a mic stand (or when you have a poor man's pompadour. "hey give me another cigarette, i dont think i suck enough just yet."). And I laughed my ass off when the guitarist fucking fell after his feable attempt at being a badass. Didnt anyone tell him that jumping off the amps is so 4 years ago?

I'll would have punched that bass player in the face, but he had to show up to middle school the next day. who snuck that sid vicious wannabe in anyways?

great show.  i had an excellent time although it always seemed like i had something annoying in front of me for the majority of the show.
most of the time it was annoying gap girls who had no clue who the features were probably and were busting out "i dont know how to dance other than shaking my boobs and ass around."  while that dance works sometimes, i just wasnt feeling it for the features.
oh and then they started jumping which was also annoying enough in fact that Sina pushed me into them.  thankfully they stopped after that.  so...uh...good work sina.  ask me before you do it next time though...makes you look less like a jerk and more like a hero.
O.K, jerk. All us "gap girls" have been features fans for YEARS. unfortunatly- we can't make it to all the shows, but we did drive to ATLANTA and KNOXVILLE within the past 6 weeks to show our love for our favorite band. and what the f*** does it matter what features fans look like (it was actually an Express Sweater- sorry all my "vintage" tee's were dirty) as long as we all love them.

and the dancing/jumping- yes, it was a ROCK SHOW. perhaps we should have been ballroom dancing? i love to salsa. maybe next time find me, and i'll let you join us. i'll be the one in full head-to-toe abercrombie.

I agree with you, julianna. It sucks when people make condescending remarks about other people just because they look different or enjoy a show in a different way. Unfortunately, I think that making fun of/complaining about people at shows is just a part of this MB. My advice: don't worry about the haters; just have a good time.

How many times does this need to be said? If you hate a crowd with energy, stay away from the front. This especially applies to you because 1) you're tall enough to enjoy from a distance and 2) fewer people would have to look around your hair. Yes, people can get out of hand, but I seriously doubt anyone was trying to hurt you or ruin your time. Except Sina.

For the record, dancing people (especially ladies) only enhance my Features experience and I would feel cheated if they felt too self-conscious to do so.

holy fuck, i apologized and i merely was saying it was annoying to be stepped on. i love the features not only because they are a great band but also because of the audience and how much they get into them.

im not writting a petition to have everyone stand still and im not writting a letter to my mom about how people tried to hurt my feelings.

i love dancing. i love the band. im tired of asshole comments like yours (the hair mention), carl. thats all. ok now everyone come on and write more hateful things about me when all im trying to do is correct mistakes and be nice enough so i could actually call some of you friends. anyway, im done. i really wanted this to be positive but it isnt.

i love this band so much. later.

So, pointing out that you have big hair that shorter people may have trouble seeing around makes me an asshole?

I don't exactly have a crew cut myself, but I make sure to expend a lot of energy for the Features at every show and it just makes sense to me to be up close (it looks silly doing that from the balcony). I also freely let shorter people in front of me-- just ask the Gap Girls.

other assholes have made comments on my hair so im a little (a lot) sensitive on that subject.

im sure you have also seen me at various features shows. i mean its hard to miss the hair, right? i put forth just as much if not more energy than any other person at the show. i would look just as silly as the height impaired (such as yourself and various gap girls) in the backrow. and trust me, there are quite a few tall people that tend to stand in the front of features shows that populate this board.

mosis ptosis is a good song and so is love is golden. i hope these last a while. i was happy to hear temporary blues and my faith has been restored in someway somehow. situation gone bad and buffalo head sem to be getting played less these days. and where was million ways to sing the blues?

sexysadie and havesomesoma get "really cool way to deceive the club" award. i applaud you all!!

Second- I love it when people let themselves go at shows, and especially when they do it when I'm playing. The best is seeing a cute little Rainbow Brite going crazy in a sea of characters.

Ditto! Even though it's been clarified that you were NOT the gap girls, I have to reiterate what a RELIEF it was to see some other real fans rockin it to the boring ATL. I knew you had to be Nashvillians, even before I figured out that I knew you : )
Two sips from the cup of human kindness and I'm shitfaced

Did anyone else notice that Rollum played "Dead Souls" during the show sometime after "Thursday"? Maybe after "Circus"? Anyway, that ruled! It was right before he played "Pour Some Sugar On Me" (which could have been a different Def Leppard song, I'm not sure).

What?! He finally played some Joy Division and I wasn't even there?! I hope you were just on crack, RD.
Why would you do that?

In the lamest of recollections, he played "She's Lost Control" on the bass after a spring show at the Red Rose last year. And, though I do smoke a lot of crack, he definitely played "Dead Souls" for about 8 seconds.
