This was an odd show, but a good one, with lots of energy from the crowd and from the band.  Maybe the reason I thought it was odd was because I've never seen live music at the Red Rose.  It was like...a coffeeshop with a stage in the corner.  I don't think I've ever sipped coffee at a rock show before.  As far as the crowd went, it didn't seem very 'all ages' to me at all.  I would guess that less than 10% of the people there were under 18.  As ghostflower said, the place was very very packed.  The crowd was loud, cheering and singing along and whatnot.  They treated the Features like the hometown heroes that they are.  As you can see, there were two brand new songs.  'Blow It Out' sounded very much to me like a Weezer song.  In fact, I think it could have been an outtake from the Blue Album.  Very rock'n'roll and catchy and very Features.  'Buffalo Head' was, as the title might suggest, kind of a strange song.  Musically, it sounds kind of like a trailerpark cousin of 'The Beginning' or 'God Save...', but the lyrics were kind of different, saying 'Buffalo Head' alot.  I like it.  Other things of interest - Matt's energy on stage was the highest I've seen it since a certain show at the End a while back.  During 'Action', he was standing back from the mic screaming over and over, like an angry schoolboy (think 'Jeremy').  One thing that I have really enjoyed about Features shows lately is watching Parrish.  He is increasingly utilizing some of the 'crazier' sounds on the Moog.  Sometimes his playing sounds almost avant-garde.  Every time I think I am getting tired of playing bass, Roger Dabbs wipes all of those thoughts from my head.  He is an inspiration.  See you at the Next Generation (God that sounds funny).

I'm not sure, but I don't think the Features use setlists, per se.  I think that Matt just has a list of songs to *choose* from. But I could definitely be wrong.

I wish I could have made it, first show i've missed in a while. TWO new songs! And, if you are referring to the End show where a drum kit was endangered, then I definately missed a good performance, again. Too bad about the Knoxville show, I'm really ready for another local event. Hope all who went had fun, despite the crowded atmosphere.

Yeah, Matt once told me that he just makes out a list of songs and they decide what to play as they go along.  Man, too bad they didn't play 'Stagecoach', I haven't heard that one in ages... By the way, I think I'm afraid of Buffalohead, that song was, uh, err... odd.

Damn. Sounds like I missed a good one, but alas, I had to play last night. I can't wait to hear the new songs. Chattanooga anyone?
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

Yeah, I too am scared of 'Buffalo Head'.. it wasn't impressive to me. as a matter of fact, i was kind of ashamed of it. so if any of you missed it, don't worry. Other than that, I thought the venue was alright but definitely not the best.

indeed an odd show...amidst 'other' murfreesboro acts' shameless self promotions, feeble's inflated weiner being crowd surfed, blatant and unecessary air guitar display and the lawnwrangler's little brother bumping into me, I was unsure just what jamiecarroll had gotten me into by bringing me to this all ages coffeehouse and bistro establishment, where i told him that if the room had been blown up, and entire genre would have been wiped from the earth. however, without the impairing condition of alcohol and what i found to be rather sufficient sound quality that was met by seriously excited, adoring fans (where are these people at the rest of the shows?)...this was by far the most unique and entertaining show i've seen to date, reminding me that this band is simply so damn good. frequenting features' shows, it has gotten easy to go, get drunk, sing along and have a great time and what not, but forget that i am listening to a completely original, innovative, monumentally talented band. i think i'd gotten used to and flat out come to expect what i have since rediscovered...unmatched energy from the most charismatic drummer to approach a stage, advanced novelty actively reintroducing the 'keyboard' to a band, precise libido-igniting bass, and eccentric downright genius songwriting. the point of my rambling: i highly recommend seeing the features outside of your normal modes. i was complaisant in my faith, and i have seen its revival. thank fucking god for these four fine musicians.

I'll second Keith's question, Chattanooga anyone?
