-Man, the pre-show dinner at Noshville was just so much fun. I wish I could've gotten to talk to more of you. We'll definitely have to do it again.
-The Close were the best opening band I've seen in a long time. Very cool.
-The Features were especially pro tonight. If we're talking strictly about performance, I think this has to be considered one of the best Features shows to date. They are just playing with so much authority right now. Even the volley of technical problems didn't rattle them. I thought the setlist could've been better, but as far as the performance goes, this is about as good as it gets.

I noticed for the first time tonight how good of a voice Rollum has. I was impressed. Roger's bass lines are still great. He knows how to make a song dynamic by laying out and keeping it simple once in a while.

Good to meet the tempting Rachel and the even more tempting Peace Frog.

hmm, yea, well it sounded ok from OUTSIDE. I swear to God, if I ever become a terrorist 12th and Porter better watch out.

On a related note: If anyone knows where to get a good looking fake id from, please send me an email. . . joeywade@aol.com

The show was awesome last night! I was glad that they kind of got the keyboards straight for Parrish.. I missed them.. i kept saying I can't hear the keyboards??? sad.gif I thought the Setlist was fantabulous and I especially enjoyed hearing Blow it Out and Oh My Love.. and most definitely Harder 2 Ignore! BUt the funniest thing that happened last night was someone tossed their bra on stage! Matt's and Roger's faces were priceless lol it was hilarious and scary at the same time huh.gif

Noshville was great, and we'll have to schedule more of those, I think.

The Close was OK, but I expected more from Derek Sandidge's brother and Sina's sister.

I loved that the Features were playing everything so FAST last night. It definitely gave them a new command of the songs Hearing "Harder to Ignore" at a more high-energy speed was a highlightt for me.

A friend of Mike D's almost hit on Token last night, and that was pretty funny.

We left after Thursday.

When are they going to get a roadie to change their guitar strings?

What I caught of Noshville was very nice. Nice to meet you, lupe, and nice to see everyone else again! I can't wait until the next one.

The show was lots of fun, and the band played great. It was exactly what I needed to start spring break off right! I really do want The Features to get huge and everything, but man is it nice to be able to see your favorite band for $8.00 on a regular occasion.

I completely missed the bra thing. Damn.

I liked The Close okay.

Mike_D: I still owe you a beer, and I'll get you at the next show.

A great show on all accounts. I enjoyed the pre-show dinner with all of you and we must do it again. For me the best part of the night was the guy hitting on Token and the spilling his two beers on himself. Hilarious!

For posterity's sake, here's a roll call from dinner last night: DigsySlattery, HaveSomeSoma, iwantelvis, Miss September, ray davies, Sexy Sadie, smee, carligula, richarddawson, YaDaDaDa, Token, BrianW, lupe mccracken, Keith, jamiecarroll, and me. (I feel like I'm leaving out someone from the "other" table. If so, I apologize in advance. Please correct me.)

I thought the setlist could've been better...
Does anyone else think the Features are getting to the point where they could benefit from some "setlist management." I think Matt takes a list of all the songs they know up on stage, and they randomly pick songs from that list during the show. Would it help their shows if they planned a head a bit, ordering the songs to create certain effects, immediately transitioning from one song into the next, and keeping it fresh by rotating songs in and out of the setlist?

i wasn't at the show so I don't have a feel for how the set went, but that setlist looks pretty damn good to me. It is a good mix of oldies, newies(?), and all of my favorites except for Buffalohead and Bumblebee. Plus, it has been a long time since they have played a 26-song set!

Roger's reaction was the best. He saw it, did a double-take, and then tried to keep from cracking up while still playing his thud staff. A bit later, he looks over at Parrish, glances at down at the "unmentionable," waits for Parrish to see it, and then gives him this "Awwww Yeah!" kinda look. Classic.

Some dudes actually retrieved during the intermission, but I don't know who threw it.

I knew there was something different about that song, but couldn't tell exactly what it was. I liked it much more than usual, In fact, for the first time, I caught myself thinking it would be a great single. (of course I feel that way about many of their songs) What was the Intermission all about? We ended up parking just outside the exit door, rolled down the windows and listened, So I wasn't sure what happenned. The sound, while muffled just a bit, was actually pretty good.

I take the terrorist comment back- I was REALLY pissed off when I wrote that. Its just the reasons the lady at the door gave me for not letting me in were complete B.S. In hindsight, I can't really blame her I don't guess. (even though rachel "magically" got in without a parent) I mean, I did know it was 21+ and the I.D. Nazi didn't know if I'd try to get beer and whatnot. The thing that got me was she wouldn't even let us sit right in front of her OR in that little area right before you got to her station.

As best as I can tell, that's exactly what they do. That in and of itself is not a bad thing. But sometimes it works better than others. I loved the songs that they played last night. I just felt like the pacing could have been better.

What can I say? Fantastic show! It was especially great getting to talk to Mindylieu and Rachel at length. Seeing Enemyroses was also nice, hopefully we'll get to catch up more tonight. Noshville was cool-- nice getting to talk to folks I don't normally get the opportunity to talk to. Thanks to JC for hooking it up and YDDD and Token for the idea and encouragement.

I didn't care much for the openers. I probably would have liked it more if I had been closer and not talking to everyone in the back. I doubt it was a huge loss, though. I saved my energy for that monster set from the Features. Having one opener for the Features is an excellent idea.

Song Highlights: Harder To Ignore, Circus, TWIMTB, S/S (yeah, I just invented that-- use it!), Mosis Ptosis

Song Lowlights: Action (boring), Golden (sorry- just don't get it), ending with 2x2

Show Highlights: Throwing shit at Sina, the bra, Matt's continued use of rockstar moves

Good times afterwards with PF, BW, FF, and Sina and the Waffle House. OMG!!! Rollum and Roger and their girlfriends were there, too. It was so awesome!!!!

I hope to see many of you at my party tonight.

I did far more drinking since I couldn't get in than would have happened should I seen the show.

Noshville, however, was great. I was happy to finally meet some people that I've never been able to put faces to. I wish that I had been able to talk to everyone some more.
That's so NA.

I enjoyed the show. Ghostflower and I were both sick, which made the ride to Nashville fun, what with the various cold meds I'd downed beforehand. The view from the balcony was nice, but there were no ash trays which meant my beer bottle had to double as a waste receptacle - catching fire at one point - the result of inserting a cough drop wrapper with smoldering cigarette. Noshville sounded fun - moreso than dribbling catsup (or ketchup) on my shirt. Damn you Wendy's. I didn't mean that. I still love you doublestack.

i had a great time at the show as well. i dont think i was as much into the opening band as you guys were though. their music was REALLY repeatitive and the bass player was a bit tool-ish. turning his back to the audience and throwing up the finger! WOOOO.
anyway the girl knew how to move and that was at least entertaining to watch. the drummer had a couple good ideas too.

the features were in great form though. Matt going through 2 guitar strings and moving all around the stage. Roger's bass lines were tight as ever and his little fan club on the side only distracted him a little bit. not to mention the bra. the only problem i had with the show was ending with my least favorite song. 2x2 has to be the absoulte worst choice for a last song as it is overtly repeatitious, drawn out and just nowhere as near as fun to dance to as any of their other songs.

and goddamn i love Mosis Ptosis.

noshville was fun. thanks to jc, yddd, token, and whoever else needs thanking.
getting into 12th and porter was a bitch. thanks to rob, brianw, and whoever else had anything to do with the whole getting in fiasco.
i was neutral on the opening band. i can't really remember anything about them.
the show was good. the setlist was great. i was feeling slightly under the weather so i wasn't very into it, but still worth the trip. the bra thing was truly odd. i'll see if i got any pictures good enough to post.

I would also like to say "thank you" to Brian W, Rob, etc... for getting us under 21 people into the show. It was a very good show and was well worth the hassle once we got in there.

I was also upset that "Two by Two" was the closer. I was thrilled that they played "Oh My Love", though, so that definitely made up for it. It was a very good setlist.

I have a picture of the bra, but I don't know how to upload an image from my computer. The girl who threw it onto the stage noticed that I had a camera so she kept scratching my back at the beginning of Thursday to get my attention and told me to get ready to take a picture at the end of the song. I didn't know why at the time. Then, after the bra was thrown I realized it was because she wanted me to take a picture of her dirty deed. That was amusing.

I wasn't a fan of the opening band; however, they were better than a lot of the bands that have opened for them in the past.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

Noshville was great fun and I have to say that these meetings always make the night that much more enjoyable. Thanks to Smee for saving me from my jack on rye grilled cheese disaster. Mucho appreciated. Also thanks to BrianW and DickieD for smuggling us in.

Opening band was, well I can't remember anything about them except that I just didn't care. They were probably okay. Can someone try to get 63 Crayons and/or Elekibass back? No openers will ever beat that combo, I must say.

The show was definitely great but I was not feeling very dancy. I could only muster a mild clog and never broke into my usual full-on 80s John Hughes inspired strut. I have to agree that the band is definitely playing with more confidence and authority than ever. Matt during "Mosis Ptosis" is becoming something amazing to watch.

I liked 63 Crayons more musically, but Elekibass were just dang entertaining. I mean, when else has an opening band marched through the crowd playing trombones and wearing huge masks? Great show that was.

I hope the band gets compensated in some way for all the young 'uns who snuck in for a free show.

By the way, talking on a public board about sneaking underage people into a bar at a Features show might not be good PR for the band and could very well make it that much tougher to do at the next show.

Well, if they are that worried about it I can transfer some money via paypal. wink.gif

All us young 'uns didn't plan on sneaking in for a free show. And I don't plan on sneaking in again so I don't care how tough it will be next time. I didn't even want to do it then, but I did. I apologize for any incovenience this may have caused the band. I wish the Features would play Exit/In so that all of their fans could see them with no hassle. I'm not sure if I'll be going back to 12th and Porter. I'm sure I will in July once I turn 21 and they play there again, but I won't want to.

I am really sorry you couldn't get in-I was hoping to meet you.

I had a blast friday!!!!!! I have NO idea how I missed the bra tossing when I was standing right there. I think I must have been standing next to superelk-I am sorry I almost knocked over the girl next to you during the "break"-I am assuming it is you because the guy had curly hair and I just put two and two together. I really enjoyed Roger's fan club. I love it when people dance and have a great time. I also enjoyed the close-they were really nice to talk to, especially the "prick" bass player. I don't think someone's stage presence should be used to judge their actual personality but whatever. He and Roger were sharing matching injuries and Roger still rocked out! It was awesome to see so many familiar faces and meet a few new ones! I was very honored to meet Rachel and it was really fantastic talking to Carl for longer than 3 minutes. The after show Waffle House trip was super fun! Wish more people would have been there. We should arrange that next time...perhaps at IHOP like PF suggested...I can't wait to try the cream cheese-filled french toast!

I'm going to buy some more merch at a show (possibly another Beginning EP for a friend or something) to give the money to the band. I am usually not for sneaking in or even getting a fake ID, but just the fact that 12th & Porter decided that this was going to be the show where they weren't going to charge under 18 people more for entry is what made me irritated. Of course it is totally their perogative to do this and no fault of the venue or even management.

I totally agree with all of Sadie's thoughts about the band playing Exit/In more often.

Rachel,,, You SHOULDN"T be able to get in anywhere its 21+. And I agree about the Exit/In AND the Red Rose comments. The Exit/In was actually one of my all-time favorite places to see The Features. And who gives a crap what went down with the rose... what's done is done. God, the band could play at BFI for all I care. I'd still show up if I COULD GET IN.

And Disgsy, I'm usually not one for fake IDs, sneaking in, or made-up pity stories in order to see a show either, but the lady at 12th and Porter really rubbed me the wrong way this time. She was so nonchalant about me not getting in, while I was begging. In fact, I think she enjoyed telling me no, over and over and over again. As I was leaving, I noticed a few people leaving out the back door. I came so close to sneaking in and after the show giving the lady her $8 and telling her thanks. unfortunately, my friend didn't think that was such a good idea.

That's about the most selfish damn thing I've ever read on this board (at least, that wasn't posted by Sina). If it wasn't for people like me, Rob, BrianW, etc. who care about our fellow Features fans, people like yourself wouldn't have gotten in for a free show (or any show at all). There will still be underage fans trying to get in (just ask Rachel and JoeyWade).

I also care about the band's bank account and I think that buying more merch like Digsy suggested is an excellent example of what reparations can be made. I'm just glad we didn't exceed the fire code and the venue didn't have to turn away paying fans.

I agree that compensation of the band is important. But I think more to the point than future underage features fans would be that those mentioned in connection with a sneak-in might be held responsible or the band might even be held responsible. That would be terrible. But maybe i'm just paranoid.

I also don't understand why venues hold 21+ shows, especially when they've held shows that aren't 21+ in the past. Is it really that hard to look at a wrist whilst making a drink? I can understand 18+ for a multitude of reasons, but 21+ seems arbitrary to me when it's been shown in the past that you can allow 18 year olds in and they won't be able to buy liquor.
I'm glad everyone had a great show.

I've wondered the same thing. The only thing I can think of is that it changes depending on the day of the week, but that doesn't hold up. Anyone know the true answer. I know we have a few show bookers here.

there needs to be more shows at Wallstreet.
I agree. That place is pretty cool. I saw Shipping News and Apollo Up there last week. It was nice, but it was a lot cooler at the Features show with that extra element of danger. I'm not sure if that venue can hold such a substantial and energetic crowd such as ourselves.

And I don't plan on sneaking in again so I don't care how tough it will be next time.

Let's not blow this out of proportion. You misinterpreted what I said, and I'm sure you'll try to skew my words however I try to explain myself so I don't think I'll even bother. Go ahead and say I'm selfish. I know that's about the most ridiculous thing you can say about me, so I don't really care.

I can see how they'd want more 21+ than 18-20 year olds present because if you're doing things the proper and legal way, all those 18-20 year olds can't buy alcohol. The average extra charge added to cover this is about $2, but since I can't legally buy drinks, I'm betting a bar makes at least an extra $5 a head with all the 21 + buying drinks.

I don't run a bar and therefore really have no idea what I'm talking about, but it's making sense in my head.....

However, all of that said, I was willing to pay up to $15 to see the band. I am a giant loser, yes indeedy. I also have the honor of being the first person turned away due to being under 21. Don't think I didn't try, kids. I wish I had hung around for a few more minutes to get in.....

And, I agree with MissSeptember, I would have paid $15 to see The Features- any day!

I don't know what kind of a deal the Features had with 12th and Porter, but I would assume they took the majority, if not ALL of the door. Maybe Keith can clear some of this up, but usually the band has to pay for the sound guy and PA system (which is usually in the $200) range. The reason 12&P has over 21 shows is that they don't make a penny on under 21 year olds, and they are a liabilty. If an 18 year old got in, got drunk and killed someone, THEY would be on the hook and lose ther license. That's why they charge them more, to keep it from being an under 21 hangout.

As for Rachel, they'll make an exception for her, because she is under 18 and someone vouched for her. A 15 year old is way less likely to sidle up to the bar or have her chaperone buy her beer. I know if I was Carl or JC I'd have been watching her like a hawk. I could't imagine dropping her off at home with her smelling like booze. Her Dad would shoot you on sight.

If 12&P were letting 18-21 year olds in, I personally think its totally lame that some people snuck in over two lousy freaking bucks. If ten snuck in you, took $100 out of the Feature's mouths... not cool. Buying merch isn't going to cut it either because more than likely you were going to buy it anyway. I think you should paypal them your admission. If the two bucks was that big of a deal, pay them $8 and PM me.. I'll make up the difference. In fact, I have to drop some stuff off to Meeks tonight. I'll give him $20 and I'll leave it to your conscience to PM and me and make things right. I'm not going to publicly humiliate anyone that does come forward, but I'd be totally shocked if anyone does.

You've misunderstood the situation, PF. 12th & Porter were not letting in ANYONE under 21. That's why those folks snuck in. It wasn't to save $2. I know for a fact that the people who snuck in would have paid $20 or more to get in.

I have always heard that 18+ vs. 21+ has to do with serving liquor after 10 pm. If an establishment is going to be serving liquor after 10pm, they cannot allow anyone under 21 in. If they're only serving beer, there is no age restriction. But I've seen exceptions to this, so maybe the law has changed. I don't know.

Thanks for clearing that up JC... my extreme dissappointment has been tempered to "do the right thing". I could hardly believe that the people in question snuck in over $2, but I've been in college before, and remember the times having that $2 meant I had some gas money.

I apologize if anyone took offense to my post... it wasn't a personal attack, just trying to right some wrongs. Because in the end of all this, The Features did lose money on this transaction, and believe me Greybeard could use $80 worth of Febreeze.

this topic is proof that the features just need to either:

1) play strictly 18+ venues

or

2) allow 12th and Porter to implement the "18-20 year olds pay a few dollars more" rule that they have apparently used in the past

then, and only then, will everyone be satisfied. (and if you're under 18 and you're reading this, then too bad. you can suck it. you shouldn't be seeing shows anyway (i remember a time when i wanted to see Blur really really bad, but I couldnt get in because I was under 18, but my life didnt fucking end because of it (i saw them a year later), so dont give me your sob stories). read a book or study for a test or whatever else you crazy 10-16 year olds do.)

I'm pretty sure the features had no say in the matter. 12th and Porter seems to make up the rules as they go along.

Also, it is possible that The Features got a flat guarantee for the show (they are big enough to demand one) so people sneaking in may not have affected the band at all. But I don't know what their arrangement was.

And Exit/In is way easier to sneak into that 12th and Porter.

It's not for legal reasons...

Any club that serves alcohol can legally let 18+ come in the door. Problem is that if an under 21 person is caught drinking, the club is fined heavily. 12th & Porter only has 2 bartenders to work the room and no one to police the balcony. They have been busted plenty of times for underage people drinking upstairs.

And yes, the $$ issue comes into it. 12th & Porter only charges a $50 production fee on weekdays and $75 on Friday/Sat. Most 18 + clubs around here charge at least $150 every night for production and most take 20% of the door as well to compensate for the non-drinkers.

Clubs make their money at the bar because the markup is so huge. When 18-20 people come in, the extra 2-5 dollars doesn't make up for what they would have made if those people would have been of age. Especially if the show will most likely sell out with only 21+ being let in.

The Exit/In has that back door by the green room, and it isn't exactly high security back there. 12th and Porter has the side door, but Michael The Sound Guy usually keeps a pretty good eye on it. One time the owner of 12th and Porter (Jodie Fason or whatever) walked me and a friend in through that door so we wouldn't have to pay, and Michael STILL gave me endless shit about it until we just left (we didn't have cash on us). It was pretty ridiculous.

Because in the end of all this, The Features did lose money on this transaction, and believe me Greybeard could use $80 worth of Febreeze.
man, fuck the apology shit.

we discussed this at the waffle house and i'm standing by what i said then...

the little kiddies that snuck into 12th & porter need to pay the fuck up. and don't think for one second that i wouldn't walk the crowd with rory at the next show to collect. or better yet, stand at the door with him and charge you guys extra to get in.

and just so you guys don't think i'm losing my elitist bitch touch, i'm fine with rachel being at shows because i know she wouldn't do anything stupid.

i thought that this had already been covered, but apparently it has not. i plan on just giving the cover for the last show to whoever is running the merchandise table at the next show. it seems to me to be the simplest way to solve the problem.
i would say more, but that is pretty cut and dry. i don't see what the fuss is about.

Sina, shut up.

Do you even know who pulled the trigger on this ordeal? If so, why don't you blame them? Quit singling the kids out just because you don't like them. They will pay. They already said that they would. Just remember that they weren't told that they had to pay when they got invited in (after they had offered double the price of admission). And since when are you the ethics police? End of story.

Basically, I feel like this whole argument is stupid until the band or management comments on it. I really don't think any of them give a fuck, so why should we? I'm sure The Features are aware of how supportive the individuals in question are, and aren't going to think twice about them sneaking into a 21+ show, whether they end up paying or not.

Yes, and I'm upset to know that Roger and his mother come before me on your list of priorities. I thought we had something special sad.gif
We DO have something special...you know I have to keep Roger happy so I can get smack for free.

are you feeling the heat because you were the one who let them in or is your new little spat about something else?

brianW can correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe at the after show gathering he said he didn't know why his was being named for sneaking kids in. of course i could just be very confused because i was drunk and trying to sleep with him, but i don't know so i guess it's up to him to come and clarify things. for the record, what i heard was that carl let 2 people in and you let the rest in.

they weren't told they had to pay? i guess the features mailing list forgot to send me the 'free features show at 12th & porter' email.

will pay, will pay. yeah, now that carl and chad brought this shit out they'll pay, but only because it was brought up. if they initially intended to pay, they would've done so that night.

i'm sure the band could've used it for their trip to SXSW.

and yeah i'm saying all of this because i'm the ethics police. someone must've hit you over the head with a bottle of fucking stupid. venge and revenge. ethics police? i'm laughing.

We should all e-mail Mike D's boss and tell him to give Mike a raise so Mike can afford Internet access at his house.

This is an old post, but when the fuck did I say this? Do I have a twin out there that I'm oblivious to? I didn't post after the show, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have only met a few of you on this message board mainly b/c I live in Chattanooga, but wow, I am baffled at this "mystery"quote of "mine."

By "sounding like BittersweetMe," I think Keith meant that he was ending his post with a lyric from a song. "It's the music not the money that matters anyway" is from "God Save Rock'n'Roll."
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I had a terrible day (not that anyone cares) and then for a second I thought I had an evil twin or something making comments. Good God, I need sleep.

"Why can't you be in a good mood? How hard is it to decide to be in a good mood and be in a good mood once in a while?"

Wow! I went ballistic and quoted a movie instead of a freakin' R.E.M. song. rolleyes.gif

Indeed, it is from the Goonies. And to agree with sinasugarstick, yeah, I guess last night's thread is pretty limited in intelligence. I think I can live with myself though.

"Where'd you get the coconuts?"
"We found them."
"What do you mean you found them? Coconuts are tropical, this is a temperate zone."
