the show sucked. i drove all that way too. the audience was disinterested and the band played poorly. poor roger broke a string on 'walk you home' which took him beyond the threshold. he slammed the headstock of his bass into poor rollum's nose, threw it at poor parrish, & jimmy-kicked poor matt square in the nuts. he then proceded to lock the venue's door, threaten the audience with his street-rad switchblade, and all the while he screamed out the lyrics to 'jack & diane' by john cougar mellencamp. then he went to the bar and downed 7 shots of hard liquor. the last i saw of him, he was riding his harley up in the sky. ride on dabbs.....ride on.

I have to disagree- I don't think the band sucked, but it definitely wasn't amongst the best performances. Roger was just trying to show up Matt with his string-breaking trick. The two NEW new songs were good & made it a worthwhile show to me. The audience did indeed suck, and the sound was fair to poor. The lightning show was pretty cool. The set was as follows:

The Beginning
Walk You Home
Leave it All Behind
New: The Idea of Growing Old
Buffalohead
New: 'Some way somehow...' somewhat reminiscent of 'Jesse's Girl', but not in a bad way
Darkroom
Blow It Out
God Save Rock N Roll

well its a good thing i didnt go. i was set to make the trip home but due to some un controllable circumstances i couldn't.

i ran into matt the other day while i was at work and had a chane to speak to him. he told me that the band doesnt really like playing at the hi-tone. i suggested him the young avenue deli and he then said 'oh we love that place' so i guess its just a matter of venue.

nice to see new tunes!

The show was ok; memphis just sucks, and the people don't give a fuck about good music when they hear it.  I talked to matt after the show and he was kinda freaked out because the audience was a bunch of losers.  but I thought they played well, as always.

also, did anyone stay for eighty katie? they fucking sucked.

memphis does suck....

i was glad to move away when i did. there is no support for local music at all. as matter of fact there is no support for any music period.

memphis being a music town and the fucking birthplace of rock and roll you wold think things would be better.

Don't have time to argue that Memphis doesn't suck nor do I want to.  Big Ass Truck, Lucero, The Pawtuckets and of course The North Mississippi Allstars will have reason to argue, not me!  I did go to this show at the Hi-Tone and I LOVED The Features.  I was the guy watching from the other room wearing a hat and a an old Live-Aid shirt.  I came to see Eighty-Katie, whom I have recorded once before at The Hi-Tone and have seen play numerous times.  The reason why the crowd didn't show was because there was a big T-storm happening at the same time.  Sorry but that's just bad luck.  Anyway, I'm writing to say that this sucky member of the crowd from the sucky town of Memphis LOVED The Features, especially the last song (Thursday?)  I've already bought their The Beginning EP.  Well I hope that this bashing of Memphis doesn't scare the guys away, because I'd love to see them again...this time maybe at Young Ave. Deli.  I know the manager there, if they need a connection.  I'm just too damn busy with Dental School to be a field rep for the band, though.

Thanks,
-Clay

P.S. Oh what the hell, http://www.livefrommemphis.com is one reason why the Memphis music scene doesn't suck.  Check it out!

wow, my dad went to dental school in memphis. in fact, i was conceived and born there. we lived in the ghetto. i think elvis (presley, not costello) wrote a song about the situation. what a small world.

people in memphis are the worst drivers ever. when it rains they get confused and hit each other. that's why no one made it to the show. I promise, the scene here is not up to par. That's just the way it is; and that's why I'm moving.

I think that Memphis is great. But I've never lived there and don't know anything about the music scene. I've just visited...

All I know for sure is that they have the pyramid. I've never been inside, but I think the thing is quite rediculous. A close second is Nashville haveing a copy of the parthenon.

Deevol, The Pyramid rules. I don't think they were trying to make any kind of an authentic replica when they designed/built it...it is blue and all.

You should go inside before they tear it down (isn't it just like 10 years old?!?) to make way for a new enormo-dome. The Pyramid is cool because it has a really really high ceiling.

I know it wasn't meant to be an authentic replica, i just think it's a bad design idea. Maybe others do too if it's already being torn down. Once again, I haven't been inside, so I won't hate it.

Evidently it's being torn down because there aren't enough luxury boxes, so the Grizzlies can't make enough cheddah. Is this what pro sports has come to - having enough luxury boxes? What happened to having a cool-looking facility? I think that the Pyramid is a very original idea.

i didn't know they were tearing it down... im not a big fan of the pyramid though; I much prefer smaller venues that don't harbor big name pop star people who call themselves a 'band'. that seems what plays most at the pyramid.

Ray Davies, I am not surprised you got hit in Memphis, and I am sorry you got stuck here for a day. It is damn miserable and dirty and crime ridden. yuck. I am from Jackson MS and a bunch of my friends were at that strokes show. I didn't go though.. anyway, right on.

My parents went to college in Memphis and lived there shortly afterward.  They said that their car insurance went WAY down when they moved back to Nashville.

Also, they once had everything of value stolen from their apartment in Memphis.

I had my car broken into last weekend in Knoxville, nothing of value taken though, with the exception of my passenger door window. I guess that kind of crap just has to happen everywhere.

sometimes i think it's better to put your valuables in the trunk and leave your door unlocked. it saves you the trouble of replacing a broken window. no one would dare to even look at my truck. if normal humans or common thieves look at it, they're thrown into a violent seizure. all they can say is 'ma ma....the stripes and dents is blindin' me!!!'.

my living in memphis experience was hell. it's hot as hell in the summer, the music sucks... there was nothing to do except go to the north end after work and drink and bitch about how bad memphis sucked. and the locals there were wack. i'd never seen, heard of, or interacted with redneck cokeheads before.
yeah so, i moved back to murfreesboro. at least i had the features to look forward to.
now i'm in nashville, home sweet home. in the month that we've lived here i've had my car towed, my car broken into, my boyfriend's bike stolen, and ugly encounters with drunk homeless people.
all that was in my car was 2 carseats, yet bitchez got in, dumped out everything in the glove compartment, ripped up a fake $20 bill i had in the glove compartment, and left the door open. but they left a gift on the floor board. a stanley philips head screwdriver. lucky me.

I'll keep that in mind since i am now looking for a place to live in Nashville. While on the topic, and since there aren't going to be any other posts in the 'concert reviews' section for a while anyway, does anyone have any suggestions on where to live nicely, for relatively cheap?

That's interesting. The Belmont area is funny. I think that Belmont Blvd. is literally the dividing line between crime and no crime. The 21st side of Belmont Blvd is relatively crime-free, but just the other side of the street can be kind of sketchy. I lived on that side of the street for one year and we had two cars broken into and constantly had homeless people coming to our door begging for money. But I know people who live on the 21st side and they've had no crime. Belmont area, though it is nice, is not for from the projects.
