Pelham said that Buffalo Head hadn't been played in a while, but it had been requested.

I couldn't remember if Contrast was the song they were playing last summer or not. I was then very surprised to get an almost all-new encore. Of those, Working Heart was my favorite. The facts are blurry as to which one is which now. I liked them though.

And I asked Roger after the show, and the band HAS NOT started recording yet. They are demoing now. And he had no clue who the producer would be.

Thanks for the review! How is J Roddy and the Business now? I've seen them 2x and really liked what I heard. However, I know they lost a band member or two so I wasn't sure what they're like now.

What's the difference between recording and demoing? Aren't recordings made from the demos? And if not, why even make them in the first place?

And I guess they weren't joking about having so many new songs.

Yes, J-Roddy lost 2 members, but are sounding really good these days.
Lots of great new stuff by them as well.

What a great show! Aside from the fact that the Chattanoogans have no concept of courtesy. The front row never felt so good. It was pretty cool singing all the new songs with the band while the other people there were suggesting things like "Blow It Out" and whatnot. And the security guy that took my drumstick and setlist - what a freakin' loser. It's cool, though, backstage was a great place to be pushed. - I got the setlist and drumstick anyway.

i actually think i saw that.. when it was clearing out.

very cool show.. good crowd.. much better when they played chattanooga in december.

i don't know about the chattanoogans (?) not being courteous.. but they are a different breed. interesting show.

Demos are not recorded with the intention of giving them an official release. Demoing can be done at home or in the studio as just a test run of what a song sounds like on record. It gives the writer an opportunity to hear the music and make changes based on those in a more polished format.

No concept of courtesy?
How about the 2 Features fans on the front row during JRoddy not moving or dancing,
and in general being dicks to everyone?

After every Chattanooga show you guys bitch about how people behave in Chatty.
No offense, but you're in our city. You're always welcome to be here, but I've seen
just as many problems caused by so-called "true fans" because you disrespect Chatt. residents
who have been fans of the band for a long while. Many like myself, have been following The Features for 6 years now and didn't just jump on the Blow It Out bandwagon. You gotta understand that we go nuts over The Features and if we're a little rough...oh well. I don't hear the band complaining.
____

The Lexington show should be good too. Both bands have a good following there as well.
And The Apparitions are pretty decent. Plus, The Dame kicks ass.

If - at every show - we make the same complaint, then there has to be a problem somewhere. DigsySlattery told me about the scene, and how no one respects anyone else's space. I was fine with the moving around - except for the 5 or 6 underage drinkers next to me yelling "The Features!" and "The Bassist!" and "Roadie!" C'mon, names aren't that hard to remember. And I'm almost positive you guys would be less than enthusiastic if you drove over an hour to hear a band you enjoyed - and had to wait through one that you did not enjoy. Sure, J. Roddy has their following, but it's not me. Like the kind of music you like, don't force everyone on it. As for being dicks, I'm pretty sure the girl who was trying to push her way through had no clue she was being "a dick." I'm sure the guy who pushed me did not know he was "a dick." I'm sure the underage drinkers yelling "The Bassist! Whooo! The Roadie!" didn't know they were also being "dicks." I casually reminded Roger (the Bassist, for those of you who weren't yelling his name) of his name after the show - just in case he forgot.

One last thing, I didn't see any problems caused by those "true fans" from the 'Boro last night. And if you weren't requesting "Blow It Out" for the entire set, then none of that was directed to you.

I'm really really not trying to start some kind of stupid argument here. But a few things.

I always log on to this board after I see The Features to find out what people thought
of the show. Instead I read people dissing my friends, people in my hometown, etc. How many times have I read the words "crazy Chattanooga dancers" written with disdain? If it was done in
a tongue in cheek sort of way or "oh, those crazy kids..." it would be completely different. I often roll my eyes at kids screaming for Blow It Out as well. And a lot of the people who are
violent weren't there last night and I understand your frustrations.

But you guys often act as though you understand the band in a way no one else does, and that's bullshit. Example, "Hey Roger. I just wanted you to remind you what your name is in case you forgot." And honestly, there were 200 people there last night who don't know as much about the band as you or I, but they love B.I.O. And big deal. They payed their $10 too.
(although I have always enjoyed the "I'm gonna call Meeks" joke)

Again, if you're in Chattanooga, you are not on hometurf and to pull some sort of egotrip, "Oh I'm a real fan b/c I live in the Boro and have their Spongebath stuff (on vinyl)" is completely ridiculous. I guess if more Chattanooga fans were from Sparta they might get more respect from you.

Finally, when I lived in Murfreesboro, it was well known in the music scene that Features fans were ruthless when it came to opening bands. Little patience, no interest whatsoever. That hasn't changed ever, and I have driven an hour and a half to see opening bands I was enthusiastic about get no respect whatsoever in Nashville or Murfreesboro.

For once, I would like to log on and not read about my peeps being ridiculed.
As I said earlier, we welcome all in Chattanooga, but you know what your gonna get when you come at this point, so why not make the best of it?

Oh, and I'm glad DiggsySlattery is such an expert on the Chattanooga Scene.
It's good to know we have someone out there who can sum up our town in a nutshell.

I like cashews.

And is "Working Heart" possibly the same as "Wooden Heart," just with some words rearranged like "Wagon Wheel" and "Martyr" was a few months back?

I don't really know how someone requesting a band's best known song can be considered dick. It's one of the bands better songs, too.

I assume you're referring to Luke. The fact that you don't know he goes by the nickname "Roadie" makes me wonder exactly how qualified you are to criticize the activity of others.

But maybe it wasn't Luke. I'll have to call Meeks and find out wink.gif

While that is the case, it was clear that the individuals yelling "Roadie!" and whatnot did not know that. They were also yelling "The Drummer!", "The Bassist!" and the like. I'm pretty sure Rollum doesn't go by "The Drummer!" and Roger doesn't go by "The Bassist!" Not to beat this horse that seems to be at the point of expiration...

1. It was Luke.

2. I don't pay enough attention to songs the first time they're played to say about "Working Heart," but I'll assume that's true.

That's a shame. I'm sure the show went well, though. You know, a good mix of "Exhibit A" stuff and new stuff. I'm really pumped about the upcoming album, and with getting to work with this amazing band as far as internet advertising and whatnot.

As a general rule of thumb, if someone is being mean here, they're most likely just being sarcastic. The primary exception to this rule is Sina Sugarsick. In that case, if she's being nice to you, she's probably being sarcastic. If she's being mean, she probably means it.

You guys always complain about violent Chattanoogans. I would love to take you guys back in time to the Metroplex or The 688. I guess you guys would just commit suicide. I love you all anyway, thanks for coming to the show. I could not, I had to work.
