I have pics from this show ready and waiting on my computer, but I don't know how to get them on the message board. Any advice (I'm looking at you Freezetag, and you Blightman)?

I TOTALLY AGREE!

I thought the show was INCREDIBLE! I was very happy to get a five-song encore! I was also happy because Roger's vocals were louder in the mix than they normally are. I think he adds a lot to the songs, and I hate it when I can't hear him.

This show also advanced one of my theories about the Features: Rollum drives the show... especially towards the end. It always seems that they will keep playing until Rollum is ready to quit. It also seems that no matter what songs the other three want to play, Rollum makes the final decision. Has anyone else ever had that impression?

some thoughts on the show:
it is official. i now worship the features as my lord and savior.

my new favorite song is 'see you through'

thursday was incredibly fast.

i liked hearing roger's vocals; he does usually get lost, and its a nice addition.

oh my love and paid to think!!!

this was (and i say this everytime, but it's always true) the BEST features show I have ever seen. If anyone recorded it, I want a copy like you wouldn't believe.

The broken guitar strap thing was amazing. Matt's strap broke and he tried to recover by balancing on one foot while his other leg held the guitar. He completely lost his balance and took a dive behind Roger. But he played it off so well like he was just rockin out. I've fallen on stage before and it always looks goofy, but Matt didn't miss a beat. Awesome show. They didn't have problems with tuning or guitar strings breaking.. almost seamless flow from song to song. Very nice. I just wish my video camera hadn't messed up. I got one minute of the second song.

Yes. He got there about 11:45. What a tough day for him.

Welcome aboard the good ship S.S. Fans of See You Through, SoS. I'm glad someone else agrees with me about this song.

I forgot to mention the most amazing part about the show--Matt did not break a string the whole time! A strap, yes... but he kept all six (well, actually twelve since he played two guitars) in good, working order. It's some kind of miracle.

WOW. Oh wow. I was in the front off to the right, a foot away from the speakers and couldn't have been happier. Right behind a great couple of guys (perhaps message board people?) who had such enthusiasm for every song, punctuating all the key beats with these motions in unison... and I could've just listened and danced and watched, fascinated, all night... I hope everyone else enjoyed themselves as much.

what an amazing show. i cannot believe those guys packed out the exit/in. that makes me very happy. i haven't seen matt play with that much passion in quite some time. i swear it's not a bona fide features show unless he is on his back once or twice or trips over his or roger's amp. grapevine was a nice touch, haven't heard them do that in quite some time. could have done without the girls yelling for psycho kiler. for christ's sakes don't yell for a cover at a good rock show...sheesh! roger's vox a big plus.

perhaps this was such a great show to me because my car broke down between knoxville and cookeville. i was gonna get all 'on the road' and thumb it, but little brother (god bless you dawson, you have to be the best brother ever. thank you, thank you) drove all that way to pick me up. it killed me i didn't get to see my tyger and only saw the last character song. by the way, what's with that cat that looks like a trucker, that pomeroy chap. he seemed like he turned character into some sort of rock band, getting all bob pollard and shit. i don't know how i feel abou that. okay, that's enough.
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

indeed, the show last night was almost too much rock and roll for my poor body to handle.
i've decided to (gasp!) take the sobriety route for all future features shows, due to the fact that i spent almost every other song sitting in a chair, feeling like i might actually die. damn you, alcohol. damn you.
i have to say that every song that i wished to hear was played last night. i haven't screamed for specific song at a show since i was like 16, but my love for 'circus' outweighed my tact. at several points during the show, i screamed 'CIRCUS!' as loud as i could and then ducked. but my ridiculous behavior was REWARDED and lo, it was worth it. yes, my neck and shoulders are paying the price today but again -- worth it.
and 'stagecoach'? yes, i can die happy.
long live the features.

and fucking armani suede? THAT made me retardedly happy. I was also amazed that Matt broke no strings last night.
I liked character - methodic noise. music to get stoned by. i thought the 'trucker cat' imitating robert pollard was pretty funny, and i enjoyed it throughly. This is also bc i saw him rocking out hardcore at the GBV show last week.
this was my first time to see de novo dahl, and i thought they were great. It made me really happy, although the sweaters kinda freaked me out. The guitar player is one of the cutest people I have ever seen, just boppin around. Man, they were awesome.

I think I'm going to die of impatience for the boro show.

sounds like i wasn't the only one who almost didn't make it.  i was locked out of my own house & i had to have my landlord come & let me in.  the things we'll do to get to features shows.  oh, and the show was really awesome.  it was amazing how crowded it was, the mix was perfect, etc.   everyone's already proclaimed the show's greatness so i'll stop right here.  one more thing though, parrish was jumping up & down during one song and that was fun.  r.i.p rollum's ride cymbal sad.gif

there is a good recording out there, but i don't think it will be in our hands any time soon. i asked rory if they were recording through the board and he said they were actually doing multi-track for the whole show. they used big tapes like a vhs tape, is that dat?
he acted like it might be something that is available in the future. might be something to download when the site is re-worked. they definitely picked a good night to record.

it cracked.  he's been using it as a crash too, so i guess it couldn't handle all that banging.  he's had it since he started playing drums, so it's pretty precious to him.

Man, I'm away from my computer for a day and a half and I miss three pages of posts on the show. That doesn't leave me much to add, but here's what I got.

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, best sounding show I've ever heard, and one of the best performances too. Great opening bands. Great long set. First time I ever heard Grapevine, pretty damn cool. Dig the new t-shirts. Wish I could have heard the Design and Jet. Can't wait for another Exit/In show.

Yeah, he looked like quite a pimp to me, too. Maybe you and your roommate were just late birthday presents? (I'm going to get myself in trouble again... just like that whole 'Jewel' comment all over again.)

Something I overheard during Character involving the theromin:

Girl:'What's making that wierd noise?'

Guy:'It's definately the Moog keyboard'

I thought the theremin guy was just making noise really.  It fit the music and all, and as I understand it the theremin is a really really hard instrument to play melodically, but still... he was making soung effects with it.
It was a good choice for him to sit some songs out, it kept the theremin cool and not annoying.

Some very good theremin playing clips there from Clara Rockmore, the master of the Theremin.
I'm no theremin expert, but I did happen to be wondering how they worked just a few days before the Exit/In show and read all about them on the internet. I had been listening to 'Good Vibrations' and got curious. Pretty crazy instrument. I don't think I could ever play it.

'good vibrations' used an electro-theremin. it's not truly a theremin. just to give you an idea of how much talent it takes, mike love played it during live performances. does anyone know if they still make electro-theremins? all my searches have came up negative. bzzzzrrrt...bzzzzrrrrrt..t.t.....<fizzle>

I thought a theremin was something kind of smell produced by females of certain species to attract males. Does Character have any of these?

that's pheremones. all girl and boys of any species give them off when they're aroused. i think character produces lots of pheremones, as they're all such strapping young men. perhaps more noticable though, is the unkin response that humans and animals give give off...an action or movement that one performs to show off their sexual prowess. i think character's all about that.

does anyone else think that character is kinda a jam band? there is just this buzz around the jam band scene talking about character and I think that is cool that character is picking up that audience

Electro Theremin, huh? That explains why it always sounds right on in live recordings. It doesn't sound like a hard part, but I had wondered who they dragged along just to play the Theremin. Now I see they were cheating. Wonderful.

I kind of thought from the beginning that Character would sort of appeal to the Jam Band Scene. However, I don't think that they are a jam band at all. That would require...um...jamming?
