Best show ever. The cameras at the beginning made it weird (although I also had a video camera.. but you know what I mean), but everything after that made up for it. That video better turn out awesome. Beautiful. This is the last show I can go to till August cause I'm going home to Virginia for the summer. Great way to end it!

Ah, the Boro.  Home of monster Features sets.  I mean, can you argue with this setlist?  The Boro was only about half full (Thursday night + lots of other shows in middletn).  I had what I call the 'Parrish mix' (side stage, by the back door).  The show started out pretty tame, but when they played two new songs, I had a suspicion, and when they played Burma that early in the night, I knew for sure that we were in for a special night.  The new songs were both OUTSTANDING.  The first one was vintage Features - very catchy, interesting beat, angular bassline, great chorus.  The second one was a little more outside the box.  As I said above, to me it really sounded like Suicide on the verses, with that beat and that organ riff, then it had a heavy prechorus and a really great melody on the chorus.
At the end of the set, I thought I was going to witness a paranormal event, because Thursday was not played.  I heard a rumor that it was going to be retired, but alas, they played it, but only after Bumblebee(!), Stagecoach, and some others.  I don't know if I'd call it the best Features show ever, but it was damn close.

this show was one of those shows, when features geeks are talking on the net about great features shows years from now, most people in the discusion from middle TN will lie and say they were there.

i was a pearl jam fanatic and i used to get jealous when people would talk about the night they played blah blah blah for the first time back in '91 in front of like 60 people or so and so did this and it was the best show ever...

well i was lucky enough to be there this night

that was an AMAZING show.. i almost didn't know if anything could top the exit/in show but it was so beautiful tonight! they were all rockin' and the funniest part was rollum watching the guy with the big video camera and saying, 'let's make him feel weird now'. it was totally awesome. bumblebee, everything about it. i liked it not being so crowded. hey, heyitsbriggs, you live in VA? me too. where? (and do you think i could get a video? i'll pay you) hope everyone knows that the features are gonna make it big soon, how could they not?
maybe i could sing along

There were two of us officially shooting for The Features. I was not the guy with the big camera. I had a smaller one and stayed by Parrish for the first few songs then made my way around to occupy a booth right next to Matt. If you noticed a camera pointed at you quite a bit that was most likely me.

the new songs were amazing, i love to hear new features songs for the first time-- the keyboard part on the 2nd new one was really rad (excuse my 80s adjective).  this really was a spectacular show, full of energy, and all the guys seemed pretty relaxed (such is the case with most boro shows).  and i also enjoyed the less-packed boro. i could actually walk to the restroom without bumping into 74 people.  and it was awesome to hear temporary blues, burma, the design,  jet, bumblebee...those songs should become set regulars.
very fun show!

ps thursday at punk rock speed! who knew that rollum could play that fast & with that much energy after already playing a 2 hour set? he is to be congratulated.

that's what I thought Keith I could have sworn I've heard it before but it seems like it was just Matt playing a little piece and not the whole band - I really like the way they played it last night -

my over all thoughts of last night

very solid boro show it's always great when they play for almost 2 hours and I was glad to capture some of the rarer stuff on tape and I was just glad to see yet another great rock show by one of the greatest bands - one of the highlights for me would have to be 'jet' and I hope this song stays somewhere in the rotaion for future shows - these are the kind of shows that you expect to hear at the boro just put the boys on stage and let it rip - a guy who was seeing the features for the first time last night said 'these guys just never take a break do they' - no they don't from the time they step on stage it is a non stop rock show and for the few in attendance last night it sure was a treat and again I will be offering this show as a b&p in the next few weeks so just keep your eyes open for that it may involve a contest of some type just to make it interesting

I was just a dude in the crowd with a camera. I was standing in front of Rollum. My tape is hardly 'official.' I ran out of tape during Exorcising Demons. However, I did get the two new songs, including all the false starts.

Hey Briggs, didn't mean to say anything by 'official'. I didn't know of anyone else shooting other than Chad and I which was my point. I didn't recall seeing anyone else with a camera. Let me know if your footage turns out well. We could probably use it.

No.  Matt did play 'Stark White Stork Approaching' a handful of times at shows last summer, but as we all know, 'Bumblebee' is a different song. 'SWSA' is 'Bumblebee's chipper little baby sister (Sorry 4 the pun).

Matt didnt seem to mind , in fact he cam up to me and shook my hand after it insted of me going to him ! wow , to me they are like superstars so i was so happy , at then end when they were playing thursday he looked ant pointed at me and told me to come up and sing ...... i just blushed and froze .. how could i possibly follow up the features ! lol , he just laughed and played on , but later he just gave me and my friends the mic and we all sang , it was so great , i am so happy they come , Matt should start saying your welcome after songs insted of thank you

OK..I just got home from Nashville...I came a day early for the show at the Boro, and I stayed for River Stages.  There is only one thing that I can say about the show on Thursday night. It's this: my friend asked me what the best show I saw while I was there was tonight on my way home.  I told him that The Features show was more enjoyable to me than No Doubt's or Incubus's, and I have been a big fan of both of those bands for some time. SO, that's all that needs to be said.  I am SO glad I made it. My roommate, who I took with me, is hooked now, too.

Do I know Joe (thewrangler)? Yeah. He was in my Psych class that I just got finished with. I didn't even start really talking to him until I saw him at a Features show, actually. He has burnt me some Features stuff that I didn't have, so that has been a HUGE help. But, yeah..we're friends. He, another guy, and I are on a campaign to save Rock and Roll here in JC. I helped give out flyers and that kinda thing for his last two shows here before Elaine left for NYC.  He told me he knew a lot of you all, too...

**NEW, UN-NAMED**(Indecipherable lyrics.  Verses sounded like Suicide, Very catchy chorus)

ok what I got for the name of the first new song is 'you've really done it this time' and as for the second one my best guess is 'don't wait for (me)' you can hear the 'don't wait for' part and I'm assuming it's 'don't wait for me'

So, I am listening to a bootleg of this show, and I was thinking...
The Features should have another May 2nd show this year. It falls on a Friday, and it would be a great way to celebrate getting out of school. Last year, I left right after a final with my roommate, checked into our hotel, and rushed to The Boro to see them. I would love to be able to visit them on May 2nd this year, too.
For those of you that remember, this show kicked ASS. You know what? If you were there, you MUST remember.
OK. There is my suggestion.

Yes, they should.

The Features should also have a show on June 27th, the night before YDDD's and my wedding. We have decided that going to a Features show would far surpass any sort of batchelor/batchelorette party we could have (though we wouldn't have, since we think they're both dumb).

So there you have it, Features. You must play on both May 2nd (though probably not likely at the Boro) and June 27th (preferrably in Nashville).

Maybe I should also put in a birthday request? August 7th. biggrin.gif

i hadn't read this thread in a while. oh my god. what i would give to have another show like this for may 2, 2003.......i would pay upwards of $20 for admission (and match that at the merchandise table). i would give up talking for a week (i've been meaning to learn sign language). i would allow them to brand me with a features logo at the door (free advertisment). i would give up a kidney (you don't really need two, right?). i would give up my second born child (you don't really need two, right?). and so on and so on.

that's enough with my pathetic begging...

no wait.....please please please please

ok, that's definitely enough.

How much is school lunch these days? If I remember correctly, a Prime Time Pizza, fries, and a chocolate milk used to be only like $2.00.

Depends on what you get. You can go through the hot food line where you get a meat, veggies, and milk for 1.60 or something. I usually go through the snack line where a slice of pizza or burrito is 1.60, fries are .85, cookies/muffins are .50 and they also have lemonade and iced tea and lots of other junk, as well as tons of vending machines throughout the school. My momma gives me 2 bucks everyday for lunch and I mix and match what I get.

I usually blow .75 on a twix 3rd period, then get a muffin and a drink for lunch and bum and apple or something off other people.

Yeah, now that I think about it, the Prime Time pizza (the round thicker-crust one) was more. It was the thin rectangle slice that was so cheap.

I thought they were taking the vending machines out of the public schools. I used to get a Twix or a pack of Dunkin' Stix out of the machine sometimes.

Ok, topic at hand: I had a friend in H.S. who wouldn't eat the cheese on the rectangle pizzas so I always got double. I don't know if that made it taste better, or just more filling.

Ha, sorry! Actually, I don't think I have ever done that before. I'm pretty awful at grammar too, and it usually annoys me when people take thier time out to correct other people. Afterward I was like, "Why the hell did I do that?"

I'll tell you what really annoys me...

not when someone corrects you honestly, but when a very close friend, who knows that you know your english skills, lies in wait for you to slip up while typing something on the internet. The internet for christ's sake. And they don't do it just to you either, but everyone who ever makes any mistake. And they're assholes about it. And they laugh about it nonstop as if they're god's gift to grammar. And then they turn around and make the same goddamn mistakes.

I think Damon *might* know who I'm talking about.

I had a friend who, for as long as I knew him (2nd through 12th grade), would cover the entire surface area of his rectangle pizza with ketchup. This always made me shudder. Those pizzas kick ass, by the way, when not covered with ketchup

Rectangle pizza was the best. Period. My roommate used to take the cheese off of the top and eat it separately. Then, she would roll up the crust and eat it like a burrito. When I was in Gatlinburg this weekend, a few places smelled like that cheap pizza, and I was wanting some big time. The place we went to eat after mini golfing sold mostly sandwiches and hotdogs, so I was pleased with that, too.

Did you play "Hillbilly Golf"? I believe that's in either Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. I absolutely loved that place. It may very well suck, but I remember enjoying it thoroughly. That place...and a place in Panama City Beach ("Pirates's Cove" I think is the name) are my favorite miniature golf courses.

I never was a fan of the school pizza. I knew several people who ate their pizza like that, and it disgusted me to no end.

In seventh and eighth grade, though, we had "mexican pizza", which I think was hexagonal in shape, and I loved it. That was the only time I bought my lunch at school (Fridays I think). I think it had beef and chedder cheese on it. It sounds disgusting now.

I too only bought my lunch on Fridays for the pizza. I, however, hated the Mexican hexgonal pizza. Long live the rectangles.

Another good school lunch item (this topic is about school lunches, right?) was the sausage biscuits. I think they had a clever name, but I can't remember it. Anyway, I wouldn't touch sausage now, but it was the shit then. Along with slim jims, which I also would never eat now.

When I was in high school, I always said the only thing I would miss would be the sausage biscuits. They were so good. I've been a non-meat-eater for a while now though...so now I miss absolutely nothing about that hell-hole. I also used to love slim jims and beef jerky when I was really little.

I always liked school hamburgers, while most people disliked them. I never did find out for sure if they were soy or just partially soy, but that's probably why I liked them, because they didn't taste like real meat.
