TOPIC: 7-12-03 The Earl

It is much to my surprise that no one has reported on this show yet. But like us, I'm sure every one slept late after the long drive.

The Earl is a great venue. I really like the size, the sound, the everything.

The Keels and A-Fir Ju Well opened up, and neither were really my thing. A-Fir Ju Well featured all the members switching instruments in between every song. On the one hand, it's a way to show how every member is versatile as a musician. On the other, it's a bad gimmick. They did have some neat songs, I must say.

The Features were fired up. They gave us 13 songs, which JC will post. I was disappointed with the length, but not with the quality. I'm ready for 12th next week and a fall full of great shows.

One highlight was meeting Lauren and 1derwoman. It was also nice to catch up with Mike D (please come back) and JC.

The most memorable moment of the night was when this skanky ho started dancing all sexily in front of the stage, trying to get the band's attention. This little dance culminated in her pulling her pants down and mooning the band for a good 30 seconds. Those of us on the front row were laughing so hard! Neither Matt nor Jesus (Roger) saw this take place, but I'm sure they both wish they had.

Oh, and I did record this little show.

Are you serious?? Thats too funny. I dont know whether or not I'm glad or sad that I missed it. I would have liked Matt to have seen it. The reaction would have probably been hilarious.

I'm glad yall had fun. I cant wait til Friday!

This show was a lot of fun, but way too short. I guess we have become spoiled with their ever-lengthening set lists, so 13 songs seemed like just a warm up. I love how some random guy at the show must have agreed with me. He yelled out "Play some more, you pussies" as they were packing up. Priceless.

The "ass revealer" was just too funny. She was doing that all night. I was standing by the 2 Laurens (very nice to meet you both, by the way) and we could hardly control our laughter when she dropped those drawers.

This show really has me pumped for Friday. I can't wait to hear The Features on home turf again and try out some new dance moves!

Jamie Carroll was taking too long to post it, and I was just listening to the show again.

Token and I were on a bad acid trip, so it is still impossible to determine whether Lauren is in fact a figment of our collective imagination or not. I think I saw brianeno2 chatting with Jim Morrison last night as well.

"God Save Rock'n'Roll" had a new arrangement. "Me & the Skirts" was a little bit different, too, on the bridge. Instead of singing, he played a new guitar part.

There were also some new lyrics to "The Idea of Growing Old," which is apparently still evolving.

Yeah, which threw a wrench in the Laurens vs. the Old Married Couple dance-a-thon. Of course, we were all upstaged by the skanky ass girl. But I still applaud yddd's "thinker" move, and also enjoyed finally meeting you two. The show was indeed too short, but I really appreciated "Action", despite the naysaying from a certain primadonna drummer.

I will second that. Too bad the ones who could've enjoyed it most were doing too much shoegazing.

I certainly hope the girl didn't have a hairy bum! I don't think she gave them a frontal shot.

I didn't see any hair. She quite tactfully managed to, uh, open the backdoor without showing anything out front...at least I didn't see anything.

These make me uncomfortable...I don't take to change well. I seem to remember there being an extra bit or so in "GSRnR" when they last played Slow Bar...and I thought "Me & The Skirts" was fine the way it was, but I'll have to hear it to properly judge it. And with "Growing Old", the lyrics were so perfect, I hope there was just more added and none taken away. I'm not used to liking a band whose songs are constantly evolving...it's jarring...but mostly in a good way...

I didn't notice the change on Me & the Skirts. I am still definitely not used to the Growing Old changes. I don't know if it just the fact that it has changed or if I liked the old way better yet.

I think this was the case. There may have been a few minor changes, but the biggest difference was some new lyrics before Matt sings, "You in your kerchief/And me in my cap." I believe the new line said, "We can count the number of times/I've acted foolish and you've rolled your eyes." Perhaps someone who recorded the show can post some updated lyrics for us.

Uh-oh. I better make a mental note to not try to sing along to Idea of Growing Old on Friday. Its so awkward for like three seconds after you completley mess up a lyric.

I'm just now getting a chance to post about this show. I didn't realize it until we were sitting there in Atlanta, but I hadn't seen the features play since early May at the slow bar...it was too long! The show was good, and as everyone else stated it seemed short. The ass chic was TOO funny and I have to agree the girl had a nice one. I can't say much more than what everyone else said, but it was great to get to see Lauren again and to meet T.F., Token, and YaDaDaDaDaDaDaDa (haha) . Thanks again for not giving me too much hell for not taking up the seat in your car. It was a very nice jesture, I'm sure I would have just talked your heads off as we drove back to TN and all you wanted to do was sleep! I can do that sometimes. Hopefully I will see everyone on the 18th, I'm gonna try to get out of work early.

Actually that would've been very helpful because we were fighting sleep all the way home. (Token lost the fight. The rest of us did OK.) I even purchased some nasty energy drink to help me stay awake. I don't know if the chemicals in it kept me awake, but its nasty vegetable/fruity flavor woke me up.

Last summer, when I actually got to see the Features play, my weapon of choice for the long rides back to Chattanooga at 2 am was Sobe Adrenaline Rush. Nasty, but somehow tasty too. Much better than Red Bull or Hansen's.

i became hardcore addicted to energy beverages the first semester of college last year. my weapon of choice is the 180 energy drink. it tastes more like orange soda and less like bile than any of the other drinks. second choice would be sobe adrenaline rush, followed by red bull. i look forward to picking up my habit again fall semester.

I have a friend that likes to drink Red Bull mixed with Ketel One Vodka. I always thought it sort of defeated the purpose to mix an energy drink with alcohol, but he says it gives him a huge rush.

Jolt was my weapon of choice on mornings when I'd get up at 5a to write papers or whatever. They sold it in the student center for a brief period.

I don't think this is a new concept. I was first introduced to Red Bull as an alcohol mixer a couple of years back. I think it was at Sam's or Bosco's or Jackson's or some other possesive bar in Hillsboro Village. I can't really say I've sampled enough to give my opinion, though.
