"ENCORE":
The Beginning
God Save Rock'n'Roll

The Red Rose was packed. In fact, I believe it "sold out." Green Rode Shotgun was abfab as usual. The Features were awesome. The new song was neat, though I could hear none of the vocals, so I don't know what to "call it." I can't wait to hear it tomorrow night at the Exit/In with vocals.

Yes, I realize that I got the month wrong in the title of this thread. Sorry.

Fantastic show. Great to see the boys pack the house once again (even though we're supposed to hate the Red Rose). I discovered tonight that the acoustics in the back of the room are actually superior to those in the front of the room. Of course, freaking out with Sina and Stopforme for the last few songs up front was still the highlight of the show for me. I was very glad we got a moderate length set, although I definitely was left wanting more. A lot more.

green road shotgun was perhaps the best opener i've heard to date. i really liked almost everything about this band.

the red rose looked better and more "normal" than i was expecting.

the features were great (as normal). this show had a lot of energy, but i couldn't hear the vocals at all. anyone know if this could have been fixed by the sound board guy, or if it was entirely the building's accoustics? I can't wait for tomorrow!

With many many songs that the Features will debut, the vocals will be inaudible for a few shows, even at places like 12th & P and Exit/In. I think it's because Matt isn't confident with knowing the words, so he sings more softly.

Sounds like a fun night. I'll be there to catch it all tonight.

I think you have to decide whether or not you want to get all the energy and stand up front (or be a bitch and just push through), or stand in the back to enjoy a surprisingly good mix. Good theory on the vocals, YDDD. I was somewhat suspicious. The newer stuff really did sound like it had the vocals turned way down.

I swear I think the mains were not working all night. It was as if all we were hearing were the monitors. Maybe I am crazy but I really believe that was the case....

The show still rocked!!!!!!

The show was indeed a good time. Green Rode Shotgun was great! I look forward to hearing more of them... I was also pleasantly surprised that they would be so cool as to give away their cds. smile.gif

I didn't get to stay for all of the features' set, but I'll see them tonight, possibly with french foreign exchange students in tow.

as far as the red rose goes, between getting hassled over my purchase of a glass of water and the ridiculous notion that the place would be shut down over a car being towed, i felt like they were rather bitchy.

Some people seemed like they were trying a little too hard, but in a good way. I thought that the bathroom improvements were much needed and actually liked what they did, aside from replacing the good art with, um, other art. The only down side was that my Coke went from $1 the last time I was at the Rose to $1.37 this time. Oh wait, that's because they charged me the right price and made me pay tax. Nevermind then. The Red Rose has and always will have shitty sound, vocals in particular. But, I don't care, it's always fun there and anything's better than the Boro Bar & Grill. As far as the towing incident, at least somebody got told this time that they were about to get towed, as opposed to nobody saying anything at all. I think that they were just trying to look out for the owner of the car and themselves, so they could have a clean slate.

Green Rode Shotgun surprised the hell out of me. I'd seen them a couple of times going into tonight, without ever feeling like they had lived up to their excellent write-ups in the Rage. However, this time was completely different. They kicked some pretty good ass and did a superb job. I won't think twice about seeing them again.

Sina didn't piss anybody off...what the fuck?!

So, I got there at about 9, and walked up to the counter, asked the girl what time the features come on. She said, "ummm, at 9 oclock"....Then i said "well it is 9".......and she looked at her watch and agreed. I then asked "is the band thats on stage, have they finished yet?" and she said "that is the features" .....and i just walked away.

I'm not saying she was dumb, but just uninformed.

Ha, but Sina did seem to be very well behaved. Maybe she's calming down in her "older" age. on a related note: I saw a chick at the North Mississippi Allstars show that pushed her way up front, and danced and pissed everyone off by running into them. She eventually had her ass handed to her by this older guy in his 40s, started dancing all crazy and bumping in to her. I thought she was gonna cry, maybe it was sina? or just a look alike?

What a way for the Features/Red Rose combo to go out. This was definitely the best Red Rose show I've ever seen, and definitely one of the best Features shows I've ever seen. This is the most energetic I've seen Matt since, probably, the Nxt Gen show well over a year ago. I'm definitely expecting to see the backflip that he does in the exit/in sampler video re-emerge tonight. As a whole, this was probably the most intense I've ever seen all of them play. Both Roger and Rollum were drenched in sweat after only the third song. "Harder to Ignore" is a new classic. The new song was also very good and has potential, and I hope Matt's guitar makes it all the way through it tonight.

As for the Rose itself, I thought the interior looked a tad off. Yeah, there were some improvements, but instead of just looking cool, it now looks like it's trying to be cool. I'm also not a fan of the new Cracker Barrel inspired tables and chairs. Oh well. The whole thing about 'stopping the show if the owner of a Blue Geo Storm wouldn't raise his hand' was just odd. I totally understand that it had to be done and was in everyone's best interest, but the fact that a middle-aged woman was yelling it in-between songs was just odd and out of place. As a coffee house, I think it'll take the Rose a while to get back in the groove of things, but it'll probably do fine. As a venue, I'm not so sure...

Ah, and I enjoyed Ray Davies actually joining Green Rode Shotgun for a song...and I also enjoyed how he signed the new owner of the Red Rose's Features CD...hah...

i had lots of fun, as always. i really liked green rode shotgun. im not really sure what the guitarist did to my forehead. ive discovered that i dont really get into it until ive heard "the beginning"-- so unfortunatley, i only really got into the last few songs. all my features virgins were pleased. im going to try to get in tonite, but according to the people ive talked to my chances seem slim to none.

And so the Features put on yet another kick ass show last night in what used to be my favorite places in the boro. Someone please tell me what the hell the fake green ivy wrapped around the pipes does for the building aesthetically??? I did chuckle at the usage of the new "tapestries" as one of the fans yelled out as sweat was being wiped on them. And while i know this may take it farther than it should be.. but what is the deal with the corporate late 40's women running the damn register.. sigh.. what have they done.. at least one thing has remained constant.. and that is that the FEATURES ALWAYS PUT ON A REJUVINATING SHOW!! Thanks guys!! See you tonight!

Not to be an old fogey, but man, when I was in college I used to sit behind the stacks at rock shows and think it was funny the next day when all I could hear was muffled ringing bliss. Fast forward 10 years and now people think I'm an ass because when I get in any situation where there's any background noise (i.e. bar, restaurant, etc.) I have to practically lip read and they think I'm ignoring them. It's also not good for my profession. I don't leave the house without earplugs anymore. I know it seems dorky but in the morning I can hear a bit better.

I'm sure you know this, but take heed from Ol' Safety Frog....

The funny thing about ear plugs is that they block frequencies such that you can usually hear the nuances of the band better when you have them. Still I don't wear them.

Yeah, if you get fancy-pants ones like The Exhalted Daigle has, they shave off like 30 decibels and full protection for impact sounds. I need to go get a pair of them at the Vandy hearing center. Custom fit and everything.

Which reminds of a totally unrelated story but I always found fascinating. My wife used to be a TV reporter, and they all have custom IFB's (those things in their ear that they are always pressing in to hear the anchors). There is essentially one company that makes them (there are more I'm sure, but there's one that everybody gets it from). Well, they take a mold of your ear, and then file it away for life, in case you lose or break your current one. I found it somewhat humorous that someplace there is a warehouse full of ear molds of almost every major (and tons more not so major) anchors and reporters. But then again I'm odd. And rambling. after having listened to Green Rode Shotgun's Bang! a few times since the show, I've decided that it is quite an amazing work. They have some very, very bitchin' rock tunes.

You're right. Their album is great - it just sounds so damn good (especially the drums) and the songs are great, too.

haha! I didn't recognize him either until tlw goes "you remember roger, right?" Like I would ever actually forget ROGER!!!! He is the features chameleon, though. I have never seen him look the same. keeps it interesting.

the show was good only i couldn't see shit from the back. all i saw the bobbing heads of the band. even rollum was somewhat obscured from where i was. plus...after 4 beers the woman at the bar told me i had enough.....new management sucks. other than that the show was killer, a little too short but killer....now its off the to post about the ext/in......
We have about 1500 songs.....all of them good!

I'm a little late posting about the show, but I must say it was definitely one of the best shows I've seen. It was fabulous. I believe I will probably love the new song if I ever get to hear it all the way through without interruptions. The show was fantastic, and that's about all I have to say about that.

The Red Rose, on the other hand... I'm not too sure about that new manager lady. Seems a little high strung to me. I thought she was going to go berserk when she was waiting for Green Rode Shotgun to finish the song they were playing so that she could announce the car thing. The fake ivy, the new drapery and tables, etc...not cool. I guess I'm not as willing to accept the change like some others are.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?
