Thursday

Wow. God Save as an opener and Circus as a closer? Its like the world was turned upside down. Thursday appearing, but not at the end?

Glad to see Bumblebee is sticking around.

And its good to see Stagecoach, The Damage is Done, and The Design in the set.

Wish I could have been there.

Very awesome show. DigsySlattery, IwantElvis, and I all yelled for "Me and the Skirts" after "God save rock and roll". Our wish was granted.

Highlight of the show: Rollum doing his indian impersonation during "thursday", i think. it was fucking funny...

Lowlight of the show: ALL THE GODDAMN RAIN!!!!!as well as the drunk guy who tried to climb out of the boro through the garage door during "oh my love". I saw Matt give this character a crazy "what the hell are you doing?" look.

Now the depression has set in, no more features shows for all of the under 21 crowd until november at the earliest... sad.gif

That was a truly awesome show and I really love the spontaneous setlists that I've seen over the past week. There is nothing like the feeling you get when you say "Blow It Out" or "Me & The Skirts" and the band obliges. Rollum's drum kit was really close to the edge of the stage and I was afraid that the sheer force of his drumming would blow me away, but thankfully I had my feet firmly planted. Hearing "Idea of Growing Old" was a treat but I so forgot "Look Out Below"! I know the words now and I want to sing along!

The faces last nite were great too: the one Rollum made when someone yelled "play some Skynard!" before the show started and the one Matt gave to the wanker exiting through the window. I must warn everyone that if they get near Ray Davies at a show and "Walk You Home" is played to step back because he goes crazy. laugh.gif

Overall a totally rocking show. GSRNR as an opener was really really great and Circus as a closer was also equally great. It was really strange not hearing Thursday at the end; when they played Thursday I thought "Well...this was a short show but still great..." Now the long...horrible...horrendous...wait begins until November...

good times good times. lots of rain. can you beleive the bullshit the boro is doing? they quit letting people under 21 in the venue during Baseball League's set. a bunch of people (mostly freinds of mine) sat outside in the rain to watch the show. plus 2 dollars bar charge??? what the fuck? i don't mind giving 5 dollars because i know it goes to the band but another two just because i can't drink is majorly wrong. bullshit.

anyways......

the show rocked. very crowded. i liked bumblebee. it sound much better this time. overall great show. i had lots of fun dancing and rocking out. i converted a few people into fans. i had fun. nice to see some of you again. anyone record the show?
We have about 1500 songs.....all of them good!

I guess I should be glad that my under 21 posse got there at 7:30. If the Boro goes 21+ I'll be severly pissed off. The Boro is the only place left that 18-20 year olds can actually see the Features on a regular basis. If that's the case, the Features better be rockin' the Red Rose more often. I will not stand for Features deprivation.

I too thought Bumblebee was awesome. I used to not listen to it but now, after hearing it live, I have realized it is a very good song and the live version gets better and better everytime. Why'd it take them so long to start doing Bumbleebee?

also....i thought the set was fantastic. i kept track the whole time on a little piece of paper and someone (who ever you are) tapped me on the shoulder and asked me if i was "the dude that always posts the setlist after a show" i told him no i wasn't and he walked away....weird huh?

i thought turning the tables and having God Save first and Circus last kept things interesting.

i miss 33 1/3............

First off, I just wanna say that I thought Imaginary Baseball League was really great. It was my third time seeing them and I like them more everytime I see them. I picked up the EP and I'm just floored by the first song (From Arkansas with Love). Check 'em out if you haven't already.

So, yeah, starting the set with GSRnR was fantastic! I'm really glad they're playing a healthy dose of the new stuff. I'm already loving "Someway, Somehow" and "Bring on the Night", so getting them back-to-back was really cool. I guess I was really hoping for a lot of old/rare stuff (Harold, Jurley, Your Smile) because I know they like to do that at The Boro. Oh well, still really really great set as always. I'm also glad they didn't play The Beginnings EP again because it makes the last show that much more special.

Did anyone else think that Roger's bass was way too loud?

And, yeah, the rain sucked coming from and returning to Nashville.

I also forgot to mention that I missed being able to see Parrish on stage. The setup sorta sucks for him because it's such a short stage and with him sitting down, I couldn't really see him unless I strained. I suppose that's part of the whole smaller club scene. I'm not really bitching, I just wanted to say I missed being able to see the whole band this time because I think they all have a great stage prescence.

The Attic in Chattanooga did the same thing. I was pissed because I called ahead and convinced my friends that $5 was something they could afford, then it turned into $7, which, believe it or not, became an issue for some of my friends whose financial status was not so good.

The show was amazing, once again. I was very happy with the set list, especially Circus as a closer. I was very upset whenever the drunken fools started exiting through the garage door and disturbed Matt. If The Boro stops letting people under 21 in, I will be highly upset.

Well, I wish I could just pack up and go to Atlanta tonight, but that's not going to happen. I guess I'll just have to wait for months to come.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

I did. For the first two-three songs my left ear was kinda going haywire cos of the thudding but I got used to it.

It seems like Parrish is off in his own little world when they play at the Boro because he's all trapped behind his moog and keyboard-extravaganza. Of course with BrianW standing right behind Parrish video-taping, when one looks over to see Parrish tickle his AHA! keyboard, they also end up staring straight at the camera like a deer in headlights...as I did...frequently...geez that's going to be an embarrassing video... blink.gif

i thought the show was great. it's a good thing that the features have such devoted fans who know and sing along with every single lyric because i'm not sure we would've heard any vocals at all otherwise, probably due to the rain. Hearing "Me and the Skirts" again was like heaven to my ears, even though it did take us 3 attempts to get it out when yelling for it. I did miss "Look Out Below" but am in no way complaining because the setlist was great, i guess you can't have it all. and i agree that parrish always seems to be hidden in the cave of his keyboards when he plays at the boro, but i did my best to sneak a peek at him whenever i could. and rollum as an indian cheif was, indeed, great. i noticed it at the last show too, maybe it'll become tradition? Overall, i am pleased with the show but not ready to face the long, hard wait 'til the next one.

on an unrelated and completely random note, does anyone else think it would be entertaining for one of the next video clips to be just a band member (maybe matt??) doing one of the Dance Dance Revolution games?

If I remember our Dance Dance Revolution experience in Gatlinburg, HaveSomeSoma, I think it'll take all four Features members to handle that wacky game. But yes, I would thoroughly...throroughly enjoy that. It would be hilarious.

Actually, Rollum has added some dramatic flair to "Thursday" for at least two years now. He usually just sits back and plays it cool, often lighting a cigarette, while Matt opens the song. Then he will add some swank to the cymbal crashes the song requires him to interject. He ends the spectacle by flipping out and going nuts.

My favorite of all time, though, was when he used Roger's maracas to hit the cymbals.

And speaking of Rollum... I've noticed lately that he seems to be the only one that knows the songs. He'll say, "Let's play 'Bring on the Night,'" and one of the other three will say, "Which one's that?" Rollum has to "la la la" the opening for the others until they remember how it goes. Last night, Matt started playing one song (I think it was "The Damage Is Done"), and Rollum stopped him and said, "Wait! That's the wrong key." For some reason, it really amuses me.

The best Rollum/Thursday moment ever was when he played a Nintendo Game Boy during the parts of the song that he wasn't playing drums.

A close second would be when he played melodica on the whistling part (4-5-02).

LOL that was hilarious. Another song, I think it was also The Damage Is Done, Rollum had to hum the bassline for Roger. It's understandable though, since the Features make about 10 new songs a month it seems and have such a huge catalog.

I try to whistle back but by that point in the set I cannot form a whistle. Plus it's quite loud...I think I'm just blowing in tune without any noise coming out...but hey it's the thought that counts.

And there still needs to be more participants on the Dark Room handclaps. They're fun, they're catchy, they'll make you look cool. biggrin.gif

They didn't seem to know "The Damage is Done" very well. But I am glad it's back. As already stated, Rollum told Matt the correct key and hummed the bass line for Roger. After the song, he told Roger, "You picked it up pretty well." Is Roger's marathon training getting in the way of band practice???

I'm not sure about that club in Knoxville, but I'm pretty sure that the Sophisticated Otter (Johnson City) is 18+. If the lawnwrangler reads this, he can tell us for sure.

My relatives (dad's side) all live in the Gallatin area.

Not only did I grow up near Gallatin (just off of Highway 109), but I also chose the same avatar as you, misquided fool, just the other day. Huh, weird...

Well well well... it's nice to see I'm not the only one that knows the horrors of Gallatin/Sumner County.

And thanks jamiecarroll, hopefully I'll get an answer!
I knew of the horrors of Hendersonville for 10 years of my life. Aside from my love of X-Men and Star Wars that I developed while living there, that town completely shattered my confidence (due to the heckling and teasing of people who probably sell drugs and/or are pregnant now) and made me the social misfit I am today.

But hey, I have to have some sort of sob story to be as cool as I am now, eh? Eh? cool.gif

yeah, i'm a bit slow.

the show was great. the night was great. i made up a new drink (chai tea and spiced rum) and my peeps and i drank a ton of it in the parking lot. i was so drunk that i don't remember the rain. i was also so drunk that i got distracted on the way to the front of the stage and stopped trying. i think i remember seeing jamiecarroll, but that's it.

i danced my ass off, though.

did they do an encore? i don't recall them doing one at the boro or at the blue sky court.
she's just another ho that i met in the hood
i told her i was crunchy black and it was all good

I've seen them six times and I have still not seen them play an encore. I want an encore.

To really do a proper encore, you have to be able to leave the stage, then come back on. At the Boro and BSC, there is no 'backstage' area. So when the show is over, it's just an awkward 15-30 seconds of a handful of people yelling for more, then on to the process of Rollum taking apart the drums, etc. I think when the band actually leaves the stage, the crowd gets more fired up to yell for an encore.
