The Mercury Lounge - New York, NY
Played with Ima Robot, Night Kills The Day, Slow Learner, and Mohair

The Way It's Meant to Be
"We Are The Ones" *
Wooden Heart
I Will Wander
Me & The Skirts
Contrast
Commotion (Takes A Little) **
Exorcising Demons
Off Track *
Mosis Ptosis

* Both new songs, as far as I know. "Ones" features Mark on congas/bongoes (I can never tell the difference) on top of his keyboard duties. Matt introduced "Off Track," so that's the title of it...for now.

** "Commotion" was introduced by Matt with "Takes A Little" added on to it.

---

I needed this. Moving to a new city where I know pretty much no one, it was amazing to have a very important part of my home up here for a night. The band is more amazing than ever and the new material is good enough for me to forget the classics they were working on. Okay, almost. I purchased the "Contrast" EP last night and I'm pretty much blown away. It's great. I am, however, disappointed by "Wander." Compared to the dancy nature it used to have, this version seems lackluster. But, as with all changes, it'll grow on me.

I think the crowd was into it but, since I was making sure to savor every moment, I didn't really pay much attention to everyone else. The other bands, the one I saw before The Features and the one I saw get onstage after, were dressed ridiculously and were basicly making love to Duran Duran onstage through song. I'm sorry but I'm just not digging the 80s New Wave revival. These guys had fashion mullets!

It was such a pleasure seeing the friendly faces of the band again and getting to chat with them for the night. It was also nice to meet all sorts of new people (I will begin burning your CDs tonite, Jed). I got home at 3:30 AM and I'm exhausted.

The show was awesome! The features are ther real deal and definately bring the rock.

I was a bit dissapointed that they didn't play blow it out, idea of growing old, or guillotine. the first two are my favorites off exhibit a, and going to the show I was under the impression that there had to play them. I was mistaken. It didn't matter because everything else was so amazing and now I have even more reason to see them again asap.

I agree with everything you said about the other bands and all, the state of the nyc music sceene today is pretty sad.

I tapped the show but when I got home I found out that the recording cut off in the middle of I will wander. I can't believe it. But what I did get sounds good and I'll try and make mp3's at some point this weekend.

What label was there? I mean, isn't that the reason they went? All the shows around Murfreesboro and then... BLAM! They do a show in New York.

"We Are The Ones" - What is that?! Gah. I need to see them again. Haha. Oh, that music video post from Craig's List is pretty legit... 2 legit, 2 legit 2 quit, HEY HEY!

As to which label it was, that info is usually pretty privileged. There's only one poster around right now who's remotely close to the band, so I doubt we'll hear much until there's something to report.

Now, I don't think there's only ONE poster. I don't claim to know everything, but stuff sometimes comes my way... sometimes. As for the screen after you log in that says "Click here if you don't want to wait..." I think what that actually does is makes you THINK it changes screens, cause you're doing something. Anyway, I got side tracked.

I have no information to report at this time wink.gif

(Seriously, I know nothing about whether this was a showcase or not-- but I ASSUME it was)

The band is discussing a video as well, but there's nothing official to report there either.

Is that "Woodstock?"

If you are referring to me as being "in the loop," well, you can see that I don't even know the names of their songs.

So who here is the one who "knows all" when regarding this band? I've heard of two people who believe they are this privileged person. I present to you, Exhibit A

OK,

"So, here we are - it's like we never even left to start.
Time heals the wounds, but then there's still a scar -
To remind us of the way it's meant to be..."

I know that, Digsy, it's more popularly called "Intro" - haha.

As for knowing, I responded to that Craig's List ad and what the guy told me was that they were looking for free labor, which is always good. I'm assuming this would be public knowledge if you were to contact the guy. ANYWAY, they're looking to do it for a free as possible. And who can say no to helping out a great band? I know I can't.

Rollum said in the interview on WMTS last week that the trip to New York was obviously about a label. Something along the lines of, "If you didn't realize that..." but not in a condescending way, by any means. So, they played... but I'm not aware of anything after that.

But with increased publicity, things are going well, I would imagine.

I'm bad for even mentioning it, but the Music Director for 107.5 The River loves the song "Wooden Heart."

Let the record show that YDDD was referring to one of the band members who posts here from time to time. Although I posit that wives and moderators also have useful information from time to time.

The song with bongocongas was not the intro to "Wooden Heart." It was a whole other song. They did play that intro to "Wooden Heart" but, as it is apparently part of the song, I labeled the whole thing as "Wooden Heart."

And it was a showcase since I had a dude come up to me after the show and say that I did a great job onstage. Upon realizing that I am not, in fact, Mark Bond, he went on to tell me how they came to see X band and ended up liking the Features more than X band.

I got congratulated or "recognized" as Mark a lot Wednesday night. You non-glasses people think we all look alike.

I am apparently retarded. I knew that wasn't it, but decided to type it anyway.

I have a similar story. I was at the Grimey's show and this old guy approached me with a pen and a picture of the Features... he proceeded to thrust the pen and picture into my hand. I looked. There, three signatures: Mark Bond, Rollum Haas, Roger Dabbs. I don't look anything like Matt Pelham. Do I? The answer is clearly 'no.'

I mean I knew a bunch of people there who work at one particular record label and a music magazine and oh yeah another record label. I feel like for some reason everyone here wanted to know there were labels there, but didn't want the particular label names anounced out loud. So i'll just leave it at that.

Oh, the reason I discovered the features was because a friend of mine at one of the labels sent me an mp3 of the new ep to see what I thought of some band they were looking at signing.

A similar thing happened to me in ATL about four years ago when the guys opened for Pere Ubu. I tried to tell this drunk fella that I wasn't in the band, but he kept teling me that I was just being modest. After a couple minutes, instead of pointing out the fact that I had a beard and different clothes on, I obliged his request and in big block letters wrote MATT PELHAM on his Pere Ubu tour poster. Poor Schmuck.

You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.
