This was a great show. I have been to numerous Features shows in Atl and it was great to finally see some people getting into it. I saw about 6-10 people with Features shirts on (that I didn't recognize) throughout the 3 day event. Towards the end of the set, a group of people started screaming for Blow it Out. I thought that was great.

I must also mention how nice it was to have our little cluster of Murfreeboro/ Nashville fans there. Nice to see everyone, sorry about Trader Vic's.

And I found this today:

Yes, the show was fantastic. Our little cluster had tons of energy, and the crowd was big and, overall, seemed pretty into it. There was quite a response to Blow it Out, which makes me feel good about the amount of radio exposure the song must be getting (Yay!).

In my opinion, the Features set came second to only the Stripes' in terms of overall energy, enjoyability, and sheer rock power. Bloc Party also played excellently, though.

Ghostflower, thanks for keeping things extra lively, and IWE, you don't need to feel bad about a thing. Trader Vic's was actually kind of awesome.

I once saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada there once... his hair was perfect.

The highlight for me was standing next to Jack White* backstage.

*When the features were signing merchandise, someone told them "Jack White" was watching them from backstage...That would be a soaked Rory. Still laughing my ass off on that one! laugh.gif

Please tell me the White Stripes sucked. I wanted to see them, but was out of town.

The White Stripes probably seemed more glorious to me, since it was my first time seeing them live, than they did to more seasoned Stripes concert goers, but I thought they were phenomenal. Jack was extra creepy looking, which was a definite plus.

That new song you speak of is called "Contrast." Also, I am pretty sure "Idea of Growing Old" was in there somewhere...

They also played the other new song, "Take You On", plus "Mosis Ptosis", "Hold You Alone", and "Million Ways". That's what you get for putting a drunk guy in charge of remembering the selist smile.gif

I have a lot of things to say about the show, but I will simply say:
1) the new songs still need some work, so I'm not going to rate them yet
2) I get the impression that The Features are currently viewed as a 1-hit wonder in Atlanta because, despite the large amount of people packed in front of the stage, the only consistent positive reaction they got was from Blow it Out
3) They did manage to maintain a large crowd despite the rain, which I thought was impressive

The White Stripes and Bloc Party were amazing. Louis the XIV, Interpol, The Pixies and Tom Petty were alright. The Killers were terrible.

I'm from Atlanta - born and raised - and you're probably right - around here, the Features are a one-hit wonder....and I blame some of that (well, most of it) on the state of Atlanta radio.....the major alternative music station (or whatever you want to call it) is 99X, and while they claim to play "new rock" while still hanging on to Nirvana and Pearl Jam and Weezer (which I have no problem with), they only play the new rock that's, in their opinion, radio friendly. As far as I'm concerned, The Features are so much better than 95% of what I hear on the radio these days.

I have to admit that we didn't know much about The Features until we saw them open up for Kings of Leon in Birmingham....we were absolutely amazed....had no idea how good they were......so we ended up driving to Nashville to see them at Exit In......and then flew to Chicago to see them at the Double Door.....and then to Chattanooga to see them at Rhythm and Brews....and then to Nashville to see them at 3rd and Lindsley.....but didn't buy tickets for Music Midtown in Atlanta because we knew the crowd probably wouldn't get it, and the crowds would be ridiculous.....but believe it or not, we've bought tickets to see them at Lock 17 in London on July 11. We get buddy passes so we fly pretty cheaply.....my husband used to live in London, and I've never been so it seemed like the perfect time to go. We're both teachers so we don't have lots of money to blow - but it's worth it to go to a cool town and see The Features. They are, by far, one of the best bands we've seen in ages.....the cd is great, every show rocks, and the crowds are always cool. You can't say that about many bands.

So is Atlanta clueless about The Features? Damn right it is.....but we're trying to get the word out around here. I play it in my 8th grade classroom, my husband plays it for his alternative high school kids, my kids listen to it, and it's even on the morning announcements at the school where I teach.....I play it for anyone I know who has the good sense to know great music......and once people hear it, they love it. I just hate that it took us this long to find it. Good for you if you've known about it for a long time - the rest of us are just trying to catch up.

I'll echo the others, angust, and say thanks for showing such support for the Features. You probably put lots of Nashvillians/Murfreesboreans to shame already.

My husband, Yadadada, and I are also middle/high school teachers. We'll keep trying to do our part to convert the youngsters around here too. smile.gif

I may have slammed Atlanta radio a bit harshly earlier.....hey, if they're playing the Features at all, that's better than not playing them, right? We met the tour manager (I think) for the Features at the Chattanooga show, and I think he knows someone at 99X, and he was thrilled that they were giving "Blow it Out" heavy airplay....so I shouldn't complain.

I just wanted to respond to the fact that Atlanta does think of the Features as a one-hit wonder right now....and you can blame part of that on Atlanta radio....and part of it on the fact that a lot of people listen to what radio tells them to listen to....without seeking out good music or reading music magazines to find out what's out there.....

And that's probably the case in lots of other towns....although I find that when we go to other cities, many of them have much better radio stations than Atlanta....a bigger variety of stations.....and stations playing a lot of music we don't hear down here......I don't know the station in Nashville, but there's a really good one we find when we're there....they were playing the new Weezer before Atlanta....playing the new System of a Down before Atlanta.....Atlanta's a big city! Why the heck are we behind on new music???

I bet you're talking about 102.9 the Buzz. Despite what some around here may say, it is a pretty good station and they usually do a good job of playing "good music" before it becomes top 40.

I think it is 102.9....that sounds familiar......and the times we've been to Nashville, I've found that they are playing stuff months before Atlanta touches it.....which I don't understand......we've got a newer station....105.3 The Buzz......don't know if there's a connection there....it tends to play some newer stuff....and a lot of heavy stuff.....especially in the mornings......but I haven't heard any Features songs there.......
