TOPIC: New Years Eve Shows

just got back from the first show! can't tell you how jack white's little band went, as i didn't stick around for it, but my oh my the features were amazing. six hours in the cold was worth it, tomorrow will be a longer wait.

setlist:
circus
the way its meant to be
intro
wooden heart
white flag*
temporary blues**
me and the skirts***
now you know
exhibit a
harmless
exorcising demons
off track
mosis ptosis

*i'm so obsessed with this song. i loved it before, but the addition of the new (to me) lyrics are to die for.

**this threw me off because i recognized the lyrics right away, but it sounded nothing like what i know temporary blues to be.

***at the end of this, rollum jumped in the air, landing then falling on his stool, breaking it. they played the next song with him sitting on what i think was a garbage can before getting a replacement. i think the crowd collectively fell in love with him at this time, it was pretty funny.

the new songs were great, i'm curious to see how much they'll change the setlist for tomorrow. i'd love for them to play all the new songs again though, i hope they all make it to a release, i'll be sad if not.

and i think i should have been working the features merch or something. when i was over for a tshirt, everyone was asking the lady about the differences of the ep and album, etc and she didn't have the answers. i was about to hold a q & a after i had to tell a dude what the ep tracklisting was, among other things.

oh and matt pelham is currently BEARDLESS. rolleyes.gif

glad to hear they played "now you know" - that was a favorite of mine from the new batch of songs from last year, or whenever that was. I was afraid it was lost forever. I'm not sure how I feel about a new 'temporary blues" - I haven't heard it yet, but the old one was also a favorite of mine.

i definitely like the old temporary blues better. the new one sounds like some crazy slowed down remix, but i'm sure it could grow on me.

Gosh. I wish I was in Chicago. I'm sad that I wasn't able to make it to these shows. Oh well - I still have January 13th to look forward to! Hope tonight's show is just as good, if not better, than last night's. Enjoy!

I hope the Raconteurs are less jammy in person than they were on the Austin City Limits I saw.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

12/31 setlist:

circus
the way it's meant to be
white flag
me and the skirts
temporary blues
intro
wooden heart
million ways to sing the blues
lions
exhibit a
now you know
exorcising demons
mosis ptosis

i take back what i said about temporary blues before, i like the new version better. its pretty much incredible. the set tonight was so epic, i was surprised matt dropped to his knees song one. the crowd was really into them, it was my first time hearing lions, and mosis ptosis is circus x 100. love. 11 hours in the cold to be first in line for the features...i'd do it again in a heartbeat.

i'm really curious about the new temporary blues now. hopefully they'll play it at the nashville show in a couple of weeks. lions was another favorite of mine from that new batch of songs so it's nice to see that it's back (we'll see if it holds up). i hope they made some new fans in chicago. i don't see how they couldn't.

they definitely won a lot of people over. the first day, everyone around me knew i was just there for the features because people were fighting over who would get my spot on front bar when i left (ha.) at the end of the set though everyone was just shouting to me 'you're right they're aaaaaamazing!!!!' and at merch there were a lot of people going to buy the album and ep and whatnot, i had to give everyone the lowdown on both as all were clueless. last night the crowd was really into them too...i don't think i've ever heard so many 'ow ows' in my life.

they were great and i'm a new fan as a result.
you should've stayed for the raconteurs though!
anyway, when the drummer broke his seat...pretty kick ass, haha!
do you guys know where i can get any of their other songs that aren't on the cd that they played on the 30th?

why everyone was concerned why i wouldn't stay for the raconteurs is beyond me. i despise jake white...

as far as other songs they sang, one is from the ep and the rest are new although bootlegs exist.

Mark has definately found his place with the guys. The last few shows I saw - you could really see him getting into the act and getting used to the music. He's an absolutely excellent addition to this already amazing group of guys.

i can't wait to see for myself...which i guess will happen at the mercy lounge on january 13th. i haven't seen the features in a bit. mark bond is really sound, so i was very pleased with the realignment--and i could see where it might've gone sideways on them. they made an excellent choice. his contributions on the contrast ep were a bit minimalistic, so i'm anxious to see his live form...

Did anyone happen to get a recording of the show as I would love to add it to my collection and be able to listen to the new songs?

i was planning on taking video clips of the new songs, but they weren't even letting in digital cameras. i could have proceeded to sneak it in, but it just would have been taken away from me as i was on front bar. snap dry.gif

They tried to take my camera away, but I told them it was the bass player's and to shove it. That was my last night in the crowd. dry.gif

Man. That's fun stuff. Fun enough to make me fight the Tylenol PM-induced sleepiness. It must be crazy seeing The Features at a place like that. Oh, I loved the Riviera's sign. Too bad The Features weren't on the marquee, though. Thanks, tomburns flickr account.
