Hey, just got back from the gig, and i was blown away.

I was the one busily snapping away on the camera, throughout, only to break for a dance to "blow it out"

The photo's i took can be found here.

Technically, I believe last time they were on "hiatus". According to Mr. A., its the real deal now.

Hello Mark.

I enjoyed reading your review of the evening. It kind of made me wish I lived in Sheffield, so I could see bands that were ripping off the Charlatans and the Stone Roses and playing "Cigarettes and Alcohol." That sounds alot more interesting than the crap opening bands that we so often have around here. I'm sorry that the Features didn't stick around to socialize after their set. I assure you, that's not the norm.

Welcome to the MB!

Wow, I didn't hear about this until now. But I'm not surprised at all. For several years now, they've seemed to be very paranoid about losing their edge, or what have you. I can't say for sure whether they have indeed lost it - I haven't seen them live since the Fall Tour in 2000. At that point, they definitely still "had it." But I know that their only studio album since the hiatus (2002's Round Room) was absolute dogshit. From what I hear, their shows have still been great, but those hippies think everything they do is great. Still, I'm sad that I haven't gotten to see them play in these last two years. Maybe I'll drive up to New England and try to catch one of their last shows in August, but I doubt it. Phish tickets are hard enough to get anyway, and now they'll be absolutely impossible.

I guess I do have a certain amount of respect for them for "quitting while they're ahead." It would have been really easy to just keep grinding out shitty albums and summer tours until Trey finally dies of a drug overdose. But then I guess you can't really say that a band has broken up until someone dies, can you? Because there's always a chance...

Thanks TF... for a second there I lost my mind. Yes, cheap mexican labor trumps lazy hippie labor anyday. I better put my G.W. Bush and his fetching wife Laura, picture in a more prominent place in my office so I can reflect on the errors of my ways. Viva La Bush Daughters!

As the somewhat more closet Phish fan on the board, I'll express my tinge of sadness on this topic. I pretty much don't listen to them anymore, but they were my life in high school so there will always be a soft spot in my heart for them. I completely agree with everything JC just said (except for the Trey overdosing thing...he may smoke pot every now and then, but he's a father of two and from what I understand he's pretty clean). It is admirable that they are hanging it up, knowing they could milk that cash cow for the rest of their lives. Hell, Jerry's been dead for 10 years, and The Dead are still milking it. Anyway, RIP Phish. Wash uffitzi, drive me to Firenze.

And Round Room did suck.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

So now that Phish is breaking up, which band will be the punchline for every single fucking joke made in pop culture about hippies? You know - all of the stereotypes about "following ________" or "at a ________ concert." Ever since Jerry died, it's been Phish. Now who will get bumped up? The String Cheese Incident? Moe? Widespread Panic?

Well, they still make "Cherry Garcia," so I don't think "Phish Food" will be discontinuted anytime soon.

I heard Trey quoted as saying that they didn't want to become a nostalgic act. Isn't that exactly what a cover band is??

Hello guys

Saw the gig in Sheffield and I really enjoyed it. Your single is very good. I went out and bought it the next day.
I was also very impressed by your supportband MASS. They really rocked. The singer is the coolest girl I have seen in a long time.(wish I could be like her) Spoke to them afterwards and they said that they are supporting you guys in London aswell. Good luck with the concert. That should be another great evening, shame I cant be there...

good luck to you all

Love Brenda

Although they did start out playing alot of covers, they never covered primarily any one band, including the Dead. Anyway, I would say that within a year of their first show they were playing much more original material than covers.

unfortunately not, they enforced a strict no fez policy.

presumably to allow the shorter people at the back to see.

I too went to buy the single, but it was sold out!!

surely this is good news(for all except me)

Hey! As the lead singer of the band, I would like to personally thank you for coming out to the show. And you're right, our single is brilliant.

I'll make a stab and say Widespread.

based on personal experiences, I think that the fans of String Cheese are my favorite hippies.
