here's what someone from maryland, who is a big DND fan, posted on the DND board about the sunday night features show:
The Features show Sunday night was great. Is Rollum Haas the greatest drummer around right now or was it my imagination? What a great band they are. The singer writes good songs and has an interesting and unique voice. The musicians are excellent players who know how to build a song and the drummer is just incredible.
The Washington Post wrote a rave review of headliners Razorlight on the day of the gig but failed to mention the Features. I wrote to the style editor last week and suggested that they get hip to the Nashville bands that were in town. Usually, they at least mention the warm up groups but not this time. I wrote the Post again yesterday and asked them if they attended the show that they raved so much about. I really hope they did because everyone in that room saw Razorlight fall flat in trying to follow The Features. They had great haircuts and fine English tweed jackets but listening to that 3rd rate, 4th generation Jagger clone bellow on and on in that irritating nasally baritone forced me out of the room after a half dozen songs. Of course, I use the term songs loosely here because the garage drivel they were laying down was primordial crud. I’m so, so tired of music journalists chiming in to praise the latest hype bands, but I get especially irritated when they do so while ignoring the real thing. Rarely has this phenomenon been more clearly in evidence. The Features rocked! They can write, sing, and play. Razorlight could do none of the above. It's that simple. Of course they look good in photos, have English accents and say outrageous things in interviews. (The singer claimed he was “better than Dylan”!?- I say that’s an insult to Jacob Dylan) How clear does it need to be before a music journalist can hatch an independent thought? As I told the Post, if they couldn’t tell the difference on Sunday night, they’ll never be able to tell the difference.
awesome.
