TOPIC: Tonight's show at the Garage

Ok, so I want to go to the show at the Garage in Islington tonight-- but I can't find out what time it starts. I don't want to get there with a bunch of people at 10pm just to find out we can't get in or something-- does anyone know any details about it? How much the entrance fee is, when the concert starts? I've called the venue and no one answers-- I'm hoping the concert is still on!

It is on tonight, and on the Garage site, it says it starts at 7:30, doors opening at 7.

it also says on this site that it is 21+, but there was no mention of this when i bought the tickets, and none of the others dates had a restriction.
i am 17, will i have a problem getting in?

Ok-- I sent an email to the contact on the Features site and have found out that the band won't be coming on until 10 -- so I'm guessing that the extra time will be for openers. I saw that the show would be 21 and up on the Features site as well as the Garage site, so I don't know whether or not you'll have trouble getting in. I've not been to the Garage before so I don't know how strict their door policy will be. Hope you don't have any issues-- maybe try giving them a call this evening.

Jesus, did they clap.

I have to say, that performance was amazing. The Features are on the up! Considering when I last saw them with Andy they were playing to about 30 people, last night easily saw 500 - and every single one of them was jumping and singing! I could barely hear Matt - even during the album tracks. Andy looked in his element moshing away with the lads, and we were the only two who went mad for Thursday...

The crowd though, hmmm. 99% of them were idiots unfortunately. I guess this is the curse of their Kings of Leon support slots, and it's the indie snob in me coming out - but it was refreshing to see The Features perform to the euphoria they deserve.

Andy will no doubt have remembered the set list, but it included Mosis Ptosis, Arcada (sp?), Dark Room, Thursday, The Beginning, another couple of newbies and most of Exhibit A.

Still lacking the self-promotion, although they did refer to Exhibit A (yet neglected to mention it was released this week). It probably didn't matter so much, all the kids seemed to know the words anyway. And I'm wearing my brand spanking new Features shirt (which they only put for sale after the gig) and have some very sweet Exhibit A luggage tags in my bag.

I don't like Roger's beard though.

Lovely to hear the features again, after not too long a wait, particularly enjoyed there's a million ways which was played with particular gusto in my opinion. Can't remember the setlist though which is annoying, i do remember me and the skirts added to what ladytron has already said and other things. Appreciated the first support band very much, didn't catch their name though, anyone any ideas? Didn't think much of the second band though - Exist. Right load of wet blanket, anorak rock. any way, already restless for more features action. The show was so energetic and charged.

Both support bands were absolutely dross. The first support were The Dodgems, and they were just a cross-between Razorlight and Kings of Leon i.e. not very good.

Exist were ok if you like to pretend it's 1996.

We went to the gig last night at the Garage and enjoyed it very much. Yes I first heard of The Features when they supported Kings of Leon but neither I nor my friend Alexis are idiots. According to the figures you gave 99% of the 500 people in the crowd were idiots. Well that means only 5 people there were not idiots. I spoke to at least three people who were not idiots so unless I spoke to you that makes you an idiot. How do you respond to this and what made them people idiots ?

On a happier note I thought it was a very nice touch for the band to come and meet the fans as they were buying merchandise at the end. Alexis and myself had a nice long chat with Parish and he posed for a photo with us which was great. I would say it was an enjoyable night had by all with a very mixed crowd all enjoying what The Features had to offer.

Hmm i disagree bout earlier comments on the support bands. I think many people expect the supports to be a polished act, rather like the main headliner when generally on these small tours, they are a younger, growing band.
Also i think people's judgements on the supports are always wrong or not 100% accurate when they are eagerly waiting for the main band to come out, who they have paid to see!
I think Exist were good, its just they werent the same style at The Features, who were admittaly in a class way above on their own at Bournemouth & Oxford, and thss people didnt rate Exist.
I would recommend another listen before dismissing support bands...many get dismissed eagerly by people after a gig only later for that band to become massive and then praise them....
Thats why ill be seeing Exist in Southampton on the 5th May to make a proper judgement and not a biast one!

This is generally true, which only makes the positive press for The Features coming off the Kings of Leon/Razorlight tours that much more impressive!

Not meaning to offend any Exist fans, they just genuinely weren't my taste in music. I recognise that they were competant musicians, who were probably very chuffed with their set, and that's great for them. However, my personal taste in music, which does not include samey 90s rock, did not tollerate Exist. I'm sure you're not very interested, but I thought I'd let you know, my music taste is wide and varied, including both unsigned, unsuccessful and, as you say, 'massive' bands, often with equal praise, their 'massive-ness' being an irrelevant factor to my praise or dismissal. I agree that often support bands are dismissed by many people, but simply, I did not like Exist.

Edit: I go to gigs with an open mind, often with the thought that I paid to see 2 or 3 bands, not jsut one. And it's spelt biased not biast.

I'm sorry. I knew 5 people there that weren't idiots, so adding myself, that probably makes 98%. I got my maths wrong.

yes! it worked! it is supposed to be a british female repellant. he is shaving it when he gets back to the US!

As far as being biased towards opening acts...I know that I am not. I generally know if I dislike or like something, especially music.

When I am waiting to see the features, a band I dearly love, I stand with the man I love more than the features. When the features go on to play, the man I love more than the features is no longer standing next to me. So, I can honestly say, I would rather stand and listen to support acts, and I actually kind of dread the features playing (in a weird sort of way, if it is even possible). Therefore, I know my opinion about an opening act is not biased due to wanting the features to hurry up and play!
(although I guess you could say the "dread" in me would bias my opinion...and we could talk in circles all day.)

That being said, I have no opinion on the said bands because I have not heard them! biggrin.gif

I didnt mean to have a go at anyone its just whenever im with people at gigs, they generally (bout 75% of the time) dismiss the support acts which does annoy me at times cause the bands have all gotta come around from somewhere! If you dont do that then im sorry - i meant it for all those who do! lol
In regards to Exist, samey 90's rock is not a category i would put them under....if your suggesting they are similar to Blur/Oasis..etc.. then you must have been at the wrong show! Bands will sounds similar to other bands but you cant throw them all into categories... its like saying who were the features influences...oh they went ages ago and thus must be crap.....(which they definately are not!)....hmm things come around again! You can never judge a bands genre/style on one performance, it takes like three proper listens to make a perfect judgement in my opinion! Although going against that, you can always tell when a band is gonna be massive the first time you hear them....well you should be able to!

Well gosh, if you feel that way, just say so. I guess I don't have to be that close to the stage if it means so much to you.

And aren't you afraid Roger's going to read this?

I really enjoyed the gig. It was great to have some other people to jump around with at the front, as I've been all alone in the previous gigs, with the other 2-3 people in the venue. Having a few hundred in there was brilliant, and really cheered me up (even if none of them seemed to know anything played towards the end).

It was fun to see a huge bunch of lads charge forwards when they played "Leave it All Behind" too. Lots of singing and jumping up and down... lovely!

I think the best reaction other than the two most recent singles was for "The Way It's Meant To Be". I think they should definitely re-release it, as it's a corking little single.

I don't think 98% of the people there were idiots (hey, they like The Features, right?)... though when I wanted to get to the front to jump around there were two girls who were yelling at me that I couldn't go forwards because it wasn't allowed, and they were trying to get people to stop me joining the front, even when I told them I just wanted to jump around with the jumpy people instead of being stood at the front with a single line of people between me and the chance to jump around uninhibited. I thought that was very rude of them... so we sneaked round the side of them... aha!

They mentioned the album, but only in that they played the title track (which every member of the six of us said was the weakest song).

I had been yelling for "Dark Room" all night... and when they played it, Matt said that it was 'a request', which made me laugh. I also helped Sharon in yelling for '33 1/3', but to no avail.

Can't remember the order of the set, but they played...

Circus
The Way It's Meant To Be
Me and The Skirts
Blow it Out
There's A Million Ways to Sing the Blues
Leave it all Behind
Exorcising Demons
The Idea of Growing Old
Dark Room
Arcata
Hold You Alone (or whatever it's called)
Thursday
The Beginning

There might have been one more new one, but I think that was all of 'em (though not in that order).

I had a quick chat with Roger after the gig, but he seemed not to know anything about future dates, future singles or indeed anything. I congratulated him anyways.

Oh, they played Mosis Ptosis too, but as usual, people jumped for the first 45 seconds of it, realised it has no tune, and then stood around looking at their watches for it to finish.
