TOPIC: A New James Bond?
Posted  Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at 10:19 AM

Pierce Brosnan said he's done playing James Bond. If this turns out to be true, they'll have to start the search for a new one. Who's suspected to make the list of candidates? Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Jude Law, Ewan McGregor, Hugh Jackman, and Heath Ledger. I like Hugh Grant as a romantic comedy guy, but he's no 007.

Jude Law would be a good choice. He's very pretty.

I think Hugh Jackman is closer to the right Bond age, but I can't seem him as 007. I think Jude Law has the right attitude for the role. Maybe Ewan.
That's so NA.

Personally, Jude Law is the only one from that list I could picture as being suave and debonaire (sp?).

I have to admit that I can't picture Colin Firth as Bond because I don't know what he looks like in the first place.

They should get Rowan "Mr. Bean" Atkinson to fill in. He was amazing in Johnny English.

I'm not a huge James Bond fan, but I've enjoyed all the movies that I've seen so far. I think Pierce Brosnan is the perfect James Bond, and the series will suffer without him. I hope his statement was just a negotiation ploy, but that may not be the case.

Having said all of that, I think the formula is getting a bit old. Maybe they'll use this as a chance to take the franchise in a different direction with a different leading man. For example, they could use Hugh Jackman and combine 007 with Wolverine. OK... that's a bad example. But I'm sure there's different stuff they could do. Maybe they should someone younger and set the movies earlier in Bond's career.

From imdb.com

Australian actor Eric Bana may be set to be the next James Bond - beating Jude Law, Orlando Bloom and Heath Ledger to the part of the British spy. The Hulk star, 35, is still in negotiations with movie bosses to take over the coveted role from Pierce Brosnan in the next installment, which sees 007 on a mission to save the world from a killer virus. A source says, "Eric is the guy they want but he has a reputation for being demanding. They want to modernize Bond and turn him into a youthful, suave and modern hero to compete with the likes of Spider-Man and Keanu Reeves in The Matrix."

I love Colin Firth so much, but he's the last person I could see as James Bond. I love Hugh Grant, but I think he's too awkward to be James Bond. I think Jude Law would probably be a good choice.

From today's imdb news:

Bana Slams Bond Reports

Hulk star Eric Bana has dismissed reports he has signed a deal to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond as "crazy". The 35-year-old Australian actor was at the centre of a media frenzy last week when sources said producer Barbara Broccoli had offered Bana the part. But the Black Hawk Down star says he doesn't even want the coveted role - and has no idea where the story has come from. Bana fumes, "I've said like a million times I wouldn't do it. It's never, ever, ever been something we've had a discussion about. I haven't got a bloody clue where this all started."

So who knows?
