didn't really care for the oompa loompas or rather oompa loompa, but it was great. and it was alot less scary than willy wonka.

Good stuff. I don't remember much about the original, but this one was really well-done. Definitely not as creepy (and probably not as trippy) as the original, but still quite an experience.

And I thought the Oompa Loompa stuff was hilarious. That dude is a comic genius.

What a tremendous movie! I loved it (and I had the highest of expectations). I especially loved the music.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

i really really enjoyed it. i'm glad i spent the extra money to see it on IMAX. i thought mr. depp was rather creepy in parts of the movie.

however the oompa loompa song updates (one song is hip hop, the other is sixties influenced, etc. etc. ) did become somewhat annoying, but this is to be expected.

definately not better than the original in my opinion but it is a great movie. and i LOVE the songs...Ooing Boingo lives. even cooler that they used the original lyrics found in the book. That and im faciniated with all the skintones in the movie. Who ever did all the make up for this movie should win an oscar.

Yeah, when they were showing the winning children for the first time, it almost looked as if the kids were CG. It was very interesting.

The whole added plot line of Willy Wonka's origin with Count Dooku was way stupid and should not have been put in. It totally takes away from the real strength and point of the story.

I stayed til the very end of the credits just to see if my hunch was correct. It was-- Danny Elfman did the vocals in all the music.

I had my suspicions, too... especially that song that had the line "It's a oompa loompa party so leave your tallness at the door."

Is it an actual IMAX movie or are they just showing it on an IMAX screen?

It's formatted for IMAX (just like Batman Begins but unlike Episode III)

I loved it too, probably equally as much as I loved the first. Johnny Depp seemed annoying in the previews, but he was perfect (as usual). For the most part, I really liked the songs. Kind of cheesy sometimes, but nice pop tunes mostly. It was weird- Augustus seemed to be the same exact kid from the original movie. I guess there are a lot of round blonde boys in Germany still. My main complaint is that the backstory was unnecessary.

saw it last night when it opened over here...and wow!..it was brilliant...
it cant be compared to the other version, because to me it felt like a completely different film all together

johnny depp was brilliant as willy wonka...he was just so funny, just played him so child like, but also pretty excentric..it was jsut so fitting...

it was just a happy film..i loved the ending...and i loved the umpa lumpas...they were so great..like the different songs and styles for each child...

one thing that bugged me, but i guess it was to be expected being made by Burton was the fact that it was a 'candy bar' and that the woman offered '5oo dollars'....i thought roald dahl was british?

Ok, went and saw it last night and let me just say I would have MUCH rather been at The Features show . . .

It wasn't great, not terrible, just weird . . . weirder than I expected.

nope, chocolate bars...or sweets...

any time i'd use candy would be like candyfloss, or candy rock, if i'd even say that..but who knows, maybe thats just my area..other areas of the country could say candy for all i know

read the book

the use of the word 'candy bar' had nothing to do with tim burton or america or president bush.

roald dahl may be whalish, but he wrote 'candy bars'.

I am amazed that so many peope on this board liked the movie so much. it had its moments, but it had nothing on the original. i think it just had so much potential, but didn't live up to it. i mean, the family crap was crap, the kids weren't NEARLY annoying enough. you didn't even care enough about them to want bad things to happen to them and it took johnny depp about 15 minutes to say everything.

having said that, i totally dug the oompa loompa. watching him dance made my day. i also liked charlie's family a whole lot more in this one. they are really sweet people with big hearts and you want good things to happen to them. in the original, you just pity them and speaking of thank god there was no "cheer up charlie" cabbage stirring song.
thank you for being a friend.
