I don't know about the whole thing. It reaks of "rock stars attempting new project with no fore-thought of the actual time and expense it will take to make it happen." Witness Apple Corps. Anyway, I'll go see it when/if it comes out, but I think that it will be a tough undertaking for the band to get it out if they're touring the UK on through mid-Nov.

I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.

I realize it's not avery reputable source, but www.flaminglips.com says:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The Flaming Lips' first feature film, 'Christmas on Mars' will be available in time for Christmas in 2003. Written and directed by Wayne Coyne, and featuring all of the band and many of their associates, the film tells the story of the experiences of Major Syrtis during the first Christmas on a newly-colonised Mars. Wayne has compared the film to, "Maybe 'Eraserhead' or 'Dead Man' crossed with some kind of fantasy and space aspects, like 'The Wizard of Oz' and maybe '2001: A Space Odyssey,' except done without real actors or money, and set at Christmas-time." and the story that unfolds is intended to hint at 'childlike' magic within a tragic and realistic situation.

I'm sure you already saw this, though, and like me, are skeptical. I just wanted to throw this out there.

In the news section of the website, it was added two days ago that the new Lips DVD will not be out before Nov 4. I'm not sure if this is referring to Chirstmas on Mars or not.

On a side note, the Lips and Mike Watt are touring the West Coast with Red Hot Chili Peppers. Piss on Flea: I'd go to see the openers and leave. Too bad I can't make it.

I would assume they're talking about the overly extravagant set of the Yoshimi re-release (in dolby 5.1) and DVD with various documentaries, interviews and performances associated with the album.

i spotted wayne coyne on the independent film channel--"hosting" the airing of "dancer in the dark"--a bunch of costumed weirdos were dancing in the background as wayne described his love for the icelandic princess and her depressing movie.

Next month they're showing a tribute to really tall and lanky rock stars, and he is probably involved in that.
