Recently I bought the first season of The Mary Tyler Moore Show. It has some gorgeous packaging and a very nifty documentary. Unfortunately, the first season sold so poorly that the rest of the series probably won't be released (this is why the second season of Twin Peaks will probably never be released). I also bought the first season of Green Acres because it was cheap. I want to get/see Freaks & Geeks, In Living Color, and Kids in the Hall, as well as the rest of the two Office series.

It was being held up because only Jerry Seinfeld was going to do commentary. After some negotiations, all four of the cast members have signed on to do the bonus features. Seasons 1 & 2 should be out by the end of the year, I do believe. I keep updated on all of this useless information through tvshowsondvd.com. It really confuses me as to why such 'classics' like Good Times and What's Happening?! get multiple seasons released while actual TV classics like MTM, The Odd Couple, and any of Bob Newhart's series get the shaft. Darn our kitsch/crap obsessed culture. Of course, if a Full House DVD were to come out, I'd snatch it up.

The first season of Seinfeld only had 5 episodes and the second season only had 12, so they're being packaged together. Every other season averages 22-24 episodes (like a normal sitcom). The Friends box sets are released every 4-5 months, so I would assume that Seinfeld would follow suit. The best thing to do would be to make them all back-to-back and release them within a year's time or so, like with The Dick Van Dyke Show.

NewsRadio's first two seasons are coming to DVD soon. They were going to be released in February but Paul Simms (the creator) decided to actually do some special features, pushing the release date back. I know no one probably cares, but it's a DVD box set that I'm looking forward to.

I agree about the latter, but not the former. But I still would not shell out my hard-earned grip for Sports Night on DVD. Let me break it down for ya'll. Here are the only shows I would be willing to buy on DVD:

-Party of Five (best TV drama of all time)
-Kids in the Hall
-Seinfeld
-the Simpsons
-Family Guy

I may be leaving out something, but I don't think so. That's not to say that those five are the only great TV shows out there. Those are just the only ones that are good enough (and re-watchable enough) for me to want to purchase.

Season two will not disappoint. Make sure to watch the deleted scenes (there's a hilarious one with Garreth in exercise gear).

Has ANYONE seen the Christmas special? I am looking in the direction of those living across the pond. I looked into buying a copy and it was $50 for just two episodes. Is it worth it?

Oh Jesus Christ, yes yes yes. One of my favorite shows of all time, ever. I heard a rumor that the Christmas specials will be combined into a movie, which was why the show couldn't be nominated for an Emmy this year.

I have Seasons I & II, and I watch them constantly. Gareth is too great...I can't explain how much I laughed when Tim (cute) put his stapler in Jell-O and Gareth freaked out and said "I don't trust the way it moves."

Oddly enough, I just got done watching episodes 2-4 of season 1. Hilarious indeed. The way that David Brent shifts his eyes after every one of his interviews just cracks me up. The last episode I watched featured the customer service meeting and Brent's musical prowess. "Hot Love Highway" is my new favorite song.

What does everyone think of the possibility of a US version of The Office? I read online that Ricky and Stephen are ok with it and like the cast, etc. I just don't think I will like it for some reason.

Last night, I broke into YDDD's house and watched the first episode of The Office. I'd never seen the show before, and I wasn't that impressed. I found it to be somewhat awkward. However, it was O.K. enough that I'll give it a second chance.

yeah, it's kind of british. it takes a few episodes to get accustomed to, and sometimes you have to pay close attention to subtleties in the dialogue or you completely miss it...the slang they use is troublesome as well, if you're not familiar. as a longtime anglophile i understood most of what was said, but it was still handy to have the liner notes from the DVD which explain it all. i don't think an american version would be very good, no. i think the characters are perfectly suited for the show, and it would be hard to capture that kind of chemistry again.

The American version will suck. I can feel it in my bones.

Personally, I have high hopes for the American version solely because NBC now knows that crappy translations like Coupling won't cut it. From what I have read, there will be more creativity in the US version than just coying the UK scripts word for word, and the characters will all be mostly original. Plus, Steve Carrell and Rainn Wilson are in it. That makes me happy.

I just found an ultra super rare copy of "Psycho Beach Party" used at Hastings. This is totally out of print. But it rules, and has the music of Los Straitjackets for the soundtrack!!
It's available for rent at the Blockbuster on West End right by Tower Records.

From tvshowsondvd.com, Quantum Leap Season 1 is coming out next week! It's hella expensive though for only 8 episodes.

Woah, and Simpsons Season 4 comes out in two weeks! That snuck up on me.

And Joe Schmo (uncensored) in 3 weeks! I've gotta get a real job so I can buy some of this shit.

I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

I just read that Punky Brewster is being released on DVD. I watched this show religiously as a kid and even saw Soleil Moon Frye in a Just Say No campaign. The Onion says Punky Brewster is a Reagan-era relic.

Which brings me to this...someone tell me they watched this show and remember the obligatory drug episode. If I remember correctly, one of Punky's ill-reputed elementary school peers did not simply bring a joint to the treehouse but rather a zip-loc bag containing a multicolored array of narcotics, coke, etc. Does anyone else remember this and how insane it was??
Some moron brought a cougar to a party and it went berserk.

Oh joy!!! biggrin.gif Any word on Different Strokes? Oh, I saw the Punky Brewster DVD today-very tempting. I remember the one where Cheri hid in the old fridge and almost died. Lesson learned: "Kids, don't ever play hide-n-seek in appliances or things you can't open once you're inside it."

I bought the Kids in the Hall box set on impulse last night and was kinda disappointed. I mean the show is great but there wasn't ever a booklet with it. I guess I am used to the amazing packaging of the Freaks and Geeks box set.

Fuck yes! First, the Dukes of Hazzard, and now this! This show was off the hook. So very creative.
