I have been waiting for the date February 3rd, 2004 for a long time... It's when the "Ed Wood" Special Edition DVD was finally going to come out! But I just found out that Buena Vista ENT has had second thoughts at the last minute and recalled the freakin' thing. But there are copies that got out to stores, and people are selling them on Ebay for like $150!! I'm so pissed!
Why can't we get one of the most AWESOME films of all time on DVD???!!!!!

I wish someone would explain why he thinks they might change their minds on that one.

Yet another Tom Foolery taunt.

I saw a VHS copy of "Song of the South" not too long ago in a shop window. If the price is reasonable, I might pick it up.
That's so NA.

I've read over that a few times, and I don't understand it. What I meant was, not that it wasn't racist, but that that is a lame reason not to release a video. Any movie that depicts black people in a slavery position and doesn't make it known that that is a bad thing could be deemed as racist. It was what it was. Song of the South had all the stereotypical views of 'negroes' even down to the dialect, yes. but it was also groundbreaking in it's liveaction\cartoon format (not saying that it hadn't been done before), and had great stories, which actually originated in Africa.

Right, and Disney may release it some day after all. I just wish someone would post and clear all this mess up...

Really, they might. They are allowing Der Furher's Face to be in the upcoming Walt Disney Treasures: Wartime Cartoons set. That is a cartoon they'd attempted to destroy all record of, which depicts Donald Duck as a Nazi being pushed around by facist society, then waking up to find it was all just a dream, and he kisses his Statue of Liberty nightlight. The number of Swasticas in the cartoon is ridiculous. If Disney will let this be seen, I think Song of the South is quite possible.

Will
You may like grandma's yard gnomes, but I've seen Rock City. Remember it.

I saw song of the south when i was little .They released it as an Anniversary edition in the theaters and i never thought of it as racist.I don't think Disney realizes that most young kids don't think about things like that.Atleast i didn't and i doubt my niece does.I think it's kinda a shame that we as people are going overboard with being pollitcally correct.

I hope it comes out eventually. I would love to have one, but not for $150. I'll just stick with my vhs copy until then.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

My reserved copy is actually at hastings, but they won't sell it to me. They got an email this morning saying that they had to return it! So I've spent my entire day off running around looking for a copy, but no luck yet..... Good news is that A BUNCH of the copies got out today, and people are selling them on Ebay for as little as $45.

The reason it's being recalled has nothing to do with the movie itself, nobody really knows why though.. I've heard several guesses. Some say it's a legal issue and ownership rights issue, some say there's scenes that aren't supposed to be in it on the DVD, and some say it's because Disney is having second thoughts about a "featurette" about transvestites. Basically what it comes down to is that Disney is evil.

I saw this on 411mania.com:

The official rumor, because there has been no official press release, is that there is a major defect in the extras section that will cause the disc or portions of the disc not to play in all players. The unofficial rumor is that Disney, who owns Buena Vista, allowed the commercial rights to the film to slip through their fingers and they’re trying to snap them up again. Even more rumors have it being an 11th hour decision by the powers that be so the film could be packaged together with the DVD of surprise hit Big Fish and possibly have the moniker “starring Oscar winner Johnny Depp” slapped on it.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Yep, those rumors came from me. I mean, they do make sense, though. If you search for "Ed wood DVD recall" on any search engine, my article for Ben's Corner is one of the first few matches. Plus, there have been a ton of hits on the site from people who were searching for that. The people at 411mania must have seen it and used it on their site. I'm such a gossip queen.!

Awesome. I also saw a rumor on there today that Guns & Roses might be performing at Wrestlemania XX. Did you start that one too?
