OK, I think "The Office" is one of my favourite television shows ever, but the episodes that have to be nominated are from last year, if not the year before, considering the lag time BBC America has regarding programming. However, it's fucking brilliant and deserves to win, even over "Monk," which I love.

They want to do "The Office" in America, with the guy from "King of the Hill" as the boss. I know Office Space was good and everything, but it's not going to fucking work. I daresay it will be...Lost in Translation.

Reading the list, I realised how few movies I saw this year.
That's so NA.

I totally agree. I bought the first season of "The Office" on a whim and it was incredible. Office Space is great, but its a different (dare I say, less subtle) type of humor. Monk kicks ass.

Arrested Development is a great show too. One of the few I watch on a regular basis.

Bill, it was a different time. It was back when we didn't know the Russians were incompetent.

ok, my picks

BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
MYSTIC RIVER - If you have not seen this movie yet. Go now. Please.

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
EVAN RACHEL WOOD

BEST MOTION PICTURE - MUSICAL OR COMEDY
LOST IN TRANSLATION

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE - MUSICAL OR COMEDY
SCARLETT JOHANSSON
LOST IN TRANSLATION

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE -MUSICAL OR COMEDY
(For me, this is the tightest category this year. Any of these guys would be great picks. Each of them contributed great performances which in some cases (especially Depp's) took their films to the next level. Still, Bill was perfect.
BILL MURRAY
LOST IN TRANSLATION

BEST FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
THE BARBARIAN INVASIONS (FRENCH CANADA)

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE
MARIA BELLO
THE COOLER

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN A MOTION PICTURE

TIM ROBBINS
MYSTIC RIVER

BEST DIRECTOR - MOTION PICTURE - Honestly, I just can't pick. I would be happy with either of them winner. Lost in Translation was great, but Eastwood managed to bring out fantastic performances from a large ensemble. His storytelling style was breathtakingly simple...almost like Sofia's. Strange. And wonderful.
SOFIA COPPOLA
LOST IN TRANSLATION

CLINT EASTWOOD
MYSTIC RIVER

Notice I shut out Cold Mountain. It sucks. Sorry.

You've seen it? Mighella and Murch can normally piece together a pretty good story. Miramax-whoring aside, Talented Mr. Ripley was rather compelling. I still need to see The English Patient.

My friends in New York who made it to an early screening of a not-yet-final cut said it was great except for a few unresolved subplots that they assumed would be removed before final cut. For what that's worth.

My picks: if I put a *** next to a selection, it means that I have high hopes for this one to ttake the category, but I've yet to see it. Always I will include one pick that I've seen, unless unavailable. I don't watch TV, so like Herman, I'm sticking to the movies.

BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
MYSTIC RIVER

BEST PERFORMANCE BY AN ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA
UMA THURMAN
KILL BILL – VOL. 1
amazed that she made the nomination list. She won't win, but she was as un-Uma as I could imagine, and she can fight better than I thought too. This style of acting is better suited to the comedic category, but I loved her anyway.

My roommate contends that Freaky Friday was the best film of the summer.

He was serious too.

I've been interested in the film ever since. It wasn't a fantastic summer, but still...

Freaky Friday was, actually, really good. I went in expecting to suffer through it just so I could take my mom to a movie, but it was actually funny and didn't rely on gross-out jokes. Jamie Lee Curtis was great in it, as was Lindsay Lohan. Of course, the White Stripes diss, props to the Vines, and the daughters pseudo-pop punk/garage rock dreams wore thin, but it wasn't enough to make the movie horrible. I definitely see how Jamie Lee Curtis deserves a nomination and I wouldn't be surprised if she won.

An artsy fartsy flick it is not, but it is a guilt-free pleasure...

I caught the end of it with my little sister last night, and I just kept telling her the one from the '70s was so much better....with Jodie Foster, no less! The dad's a sexist pig, the mom seems like a lush to me, and for God's sake...typing class! With typewriters! I love it.

I need to see the original, but not having seen that enabled me to accurately judge the updated version.

This really added nothing, but I'm in a posting mood...

Where the hell is the love for Sean Astin? Even if he had sucked in ROTK (which he most certainly did not) he should get a nomination just based on Rudy alone...

I think that amidst such a strong cast of actors who portrayed their roles so well, Sean Astin definitely was a step above all of them in ROTK. Screw the Golden Globes, the fat hobbit deserves an Academy Award nod.
