Don't buy it. Rent it. It's good, but not that good.

It's best enjoyed on the big screen if you have the option.

I agree completely. Seeing it in the theater is the way to go for sure. I was thinking of buying the first one, but I think I will just wait until they both come out in some Special Edition type thing.

I was going to say the same thing, but only after Keith buys Vol. 1.

I disagree. It is that good.

For me, it was pure, unadulterated cinema. It was a man telling a story that was hollow and shallow, but which had everything needed for a good cinematic narrative. This same man found the most stylistically engaging and interesting way to tell this story, recalling all of said story's sources. It is "low" cinema, but it is the best, most celebrational "low" cinema you'll find. And it is great.

But I'd also caution against buying it. The disc has no extras, and the film is definitely only half a film. Given how Part Two was, it is a seperate film to be sure, but nothing so essential that you need to buy it now in lieu of the box set that is being planned which will likely include a four-plus hour cut of both films as a single experience, plus and minus bits to make it work better as a single whole. THAT is what I'd buy. Worth the wait.

But do rent it and see the second part. It is low, but it is also pure cinema, and the energy that went into it alone is so viscerally experienced by the audience that it is immediately irresistable.

Hey, guess what? No surprise there. We're talking about film, and the people who made it intended it to be seen on a huge screen, with a crowd, with images created by light passing through celluloid 24 times a second. I've made the argument here before, and I'll continue to make it; no film is the same on DVD. I own more dvds than I can in good conscience admit to, but I know them to be inferior ways to experience cinema, and I seek out better alternatives whenever possible.

Though I do love DVD as opposed to other things. VHS is litterally the worst thing that can happen to a movie. Or so I thought. Lately I've had to watch movies streaming off of the University Library server, and that has been utter Hell.

I saw Kill Bill v2 yesterday and I did thoroughly enjoy it. I have to say that this is the first movie that I have seen where I actually found myself using all of the knowledge I picked up in my film classes last semester and my mass comm class this semester. The use of 4:3 ratio to emphasize the emotion, the extremely Hitchcockian titles (which I thought were just genius), and much more...this was a film that kept me interested. However, I really wish I could have seen this as the second half of one film instead of a separate one. This is why I am definitely waiting for both parts to be released together on DVD.

Overall, these are two (or one) of the most enjoyable movies I've seen in a while.

Okay, point taken. I won't argue that (especially with you). Allow me to restate:

Seeing Kill Bill on the big screen enhances one's enjoyment of the film moreso than most other films.

Sorry. I didn't really intend to sound so confrontational there. It's been a rough week.

I'll concede that Kill Bill is a highly cinematic experience, and that it takes advantage of the medium more than many films.

yes, she kills him. and that's about it.

instead of paying 1,000 bucks to go to the theater to see it, just watch the first one again and imagine Bill dies at the end of that one. the sequel is disappointing....maybe a rental on a rainy saturday.

I liked Volume 2, too. While I really enjoyed the fighting/killing in Volume 1, I thought that this one was good in a different way. I didn't really go into it expecting a ton of fighting. I knew there had to be more storytime, b/c of the way Volume 1 ended. I did think that Elle and the Bride's (not to give away her name to those of you who haven't seen it yet) fight would have been longer, but I still love the way it ended up.

My question was kinda facetious. I thought everyone knew that she kills him. I wouldn't have thought that would be a spoiler.

Anyway, I liked the soundtrack of Vol. 1 as much as I liked the movie, and I listen to it all the time. I hope the soundtrack of Vol. 2 is just as good.

Not to be picky, but the title of the movie refers to her mission-- as it's written on her death list. Whether or not she accomplishes this mission was never explicitly stated.

Yeah, if it really mattered to me, I would have already seen the movie, but I was too busy going to rock shows, enjoying the weather, and working to go see it.

I don't want to blow this issue out of proportion, but given your logic, Romeo must die in "Romeo Must Die." There isn't even a character named Romeo in that movie. So I gotta go with Carligula on this one.

Well I haven't seen this one yet but I don't think the title means she killed Bill (I have a pretty darn good idea that she does, now, but I'm just talking about the title). It's in the present tense. It denotes an intention: she wants to kill Bill. If it were a foregone conclusion wouldn't it have been called Killed Bill?

Foregone Conclusion was the name of David Brent's band in "The Office."

I was just decieved. I thought we were going to see it tonight, but there is last minute homework that must be attended to (not mine). And I didn't know she killed Bill - I just know she really wanted to.

I finally saw it with a few other message boarders and I thought it was great. The more I think back on both volumes as a whole, the more I like it. I know that it was so cool to like Tarantino for a while that it then became uncool to like him, but I pretty much love every movie he's directed (with the exception of Jackie Brown, which I still liked, but wouldn't go so far as to say I loved it). Can't wait for the combined DVD and whatever his next movie may be (Vega Brothers? Please! Please!).
