As the big Nirvana fan that I am, I'm gonna watch it and probably feel moved by it in some way or another. Either it'll be great or just totally suck. I hear it's literally about nothing, just the guy moping around for a couple days....hmmmm...

Thurston Moore apparently did part of the soundtrack, too.

Micheal Pitt was also supposed to play Damien Echols in the West Memphis Three movie, but I noticed he's no longer listed in the cast.

So, therefore, he can't be hot, right?

Just a warning: Pretty slow movie. Good... but slow.

You've been warned.

My theory on this movie was that it was a joke by Van Sant. He wanted to make the most boring movie possible just to see how pretentious people would try to justify it so he could laugh at them. Good job, Gus. It's actually working. And you also cured my insomnia.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

BrianW and I saw this last night... huh.

I think the editor was on heroin.

Gus Van Sant needs to put down the camera and slowly walk away from it.

Writer credit? Please...

Michael Azeraad should be ashamed of himself. So should Kurt Loder, but I think he already has lost all shame.

It's a very interesting premise. "What's going thru the head of a tortured artist leading up to his suicide?" I think Blake killed himself outta sure boredom. I mean once you've swam across a stream and dug up some junk in the yard and had some macaroni, I mean what else is there?

Don't bother.

Well, for one, dressing up like a woman and running around the house with a shotgun. Oh... wait...

Did you notice the mysterious "figure in red"? I only saw him in the greenhouse towards the end, but apparently he popped up a couple of times. Supposedly that was GVS's way of injecting some controversy over his alleged murder.

I saw that (it) twice... I thought that was just a reflection of Kurt errrrr Blake's red shirt he was wearing.

The one time you see this in the greenhouse when the hangers-on were leaving it looked to me like the reds were pushed in telecine resulting in that more vivid red. I guess this is one time where my tech knowledge may have ruined something. I assumed it was pushed toward red since the car interior was so dark... that's an easy cheat to get more detail into a shot without brightening everything up. Hmmm now I'm going to have to see it again... yeah, right.

And, as for dressing up in a dress and running around the house with a shotgun, welcome to my Saturday nights!

I think I'm probably the only person who liked this film. Yes, there were times that it was painfully slow, but that was intended to effect the experience of heroin use. Time crawls (not that I've used it). I was most impressed by the fact that Pitt wrote a few of the songs in the film, including the Pennyroyal Tea-esque acoustic tune that plays over the website (I think it's called "Fetus"). Did anybody else notice that Pitt wrote left handed in his journal ala Kurt but played guitar as a righty? Surprised they didn't reverse that shot. I was also impressed by the fact that Harmony Korine has apparently discovered the McDonald's diet.

Still haven't seen it, but I'd like to. I remember hearing one of the Nirvana-esque songs in the trailer and it wasn't a bad imitation.

And somethingman, some others seemed to have liked it...I remember nirvanaclub.com linking several rave reviews of it, though I wouldn't be surprised if it's mostly getting trashed.

If anyone cares, I bought Kurt Cobain's Journals yesterday at Waldenbooks in Charleston, SC for $6. (I assume you can find it for that price in any Waldenbooks, though) The $30 price tag had always scared me off before.

Is it a $6 read, as in twice as good as a Harlequin romance, or a $30 read, like a fairly good used copy (2nd editon, published in New York) of Oliver Twist?
That's so NA.
