TOPIC: Newly Acquired DVD Volumes

It's funny that I sometimes forget how thankful I am to be in the DVD age. I got the first volume of Garfield cartoons yesterday. It has a total of 48 Garfield segments and 24 installments of U.S. Acres (you know, sfm), also written by Jim Davis. It flipped me out to watch the first episode last night! It brought back a ton of memories. I've probably seen all of these cartoons 20 times or more; but before last night, I doubt I had seen an episode in ten years. It is obvious to me now that Jim Davis was a creative genius.

I hope to get the first two volumes of Seinfeld pretty soon, as well as the Looney Tunes set.

I learned yesterday that season three of Curb Your Enthusiasm is being released in mid-January. I had no idea that it would be coming out anytime soon. I am super-excited about it.

I got the Seinfeld DVD's for Christmas, they're great. Its really interesting to watch Kramer's character evolve - in the first few episodes he isn't quite "himself".

I've heard different things about Curb Your Enthusiasm. Is it funny in the same way as Seinfeld or what? I think I'd probably like it.

If you watch Curb Your Enthusiasm, try... going into it with no preconceived notions regarding Seinfeld, learning the character traits, and appreciating the show on it's own merits. After doing so, Seinfeld will be about five times funnier than you already think it is. A large portion of George and Jerry's scenarios are based on situations from Larry David's experiences. Curb Your Enthusiasm sheds light on why the Seinfeld series had such a goldmine of material. It also shows that Larry David is a genius. I think that you would like it.

TV on DVD is the greatest thing to happen in my lifetime. Here are the box sets I recieved for Christmas.

Alias season 3
Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 7
The Dick Van Dyke Show seasons 4 & 5
Freaks & Geeks complete series
The Golden Girls season 1
Seinfeld season 3
Unsolved Mysteries: UFOs
X-Men: Evolution season 1 volumes 2-4

So far, my favorites are the Seinfeld box sets. I forgot how amazing this show was, especially season 3. The special features are all so awesome.

So much to watch, so little time.

X-Men Evolution? Fuck that, I'm waiting for the Saban X-Men series to be released. that was a GOOD SERIES.

I plan on purchasing Pee-Wee's Playhouse on DVD, and the Original Crew Star Trek boxed set (films 1 thru 6). If I have any money left, I might buy a season or two of Will and Grace and/or The Simpsons.

I totally agree. The FOX Spiderman cartoons were wicked awesome as well. I'd buy Captain Planet and Muppet Babies DVDs if they were available. Smurfs, too.

I think that the next big wave in DVD trends will be 70's and 80's Saturday morning cartoons, as well as old Disney Channel and Nickelodeon television shows. It's a cash cow waiting to happen, so I'm sure that they will do it. Today's Special, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, You Can't Do That On Television, Pete and Pete, Doug, Rugrats, Gummi Bears, Voltron, He-Man, etc etc. I'm sure that a few of these are already out in some fashion. I'll probably get the Heathcliff DVDs sometime soon.

Maybe even vintage game shows eventually.

X-Men Evolution?  Fuck that, I'm waiting for the Saban X-Men series to be released.  that was a GOOD SERIES.
I made my own season 1 box set of the original X-Men cartoon using my DVD burner and my collection of the official old VHS tapes. It is superior to Evolution. However, being the rabid X-Men fan that I am, I felt bad for never watching Evolution and decided to just get the DVDs. They're not horrible and, actually, give a lot of minor characters the spotlight and feature a rotating cast with a more soap opera bent than the original cartoon ever did. Did the roster ever change on the original cartoon? No, but it does on Evolution and, in season two, characters like Sunspot, Cannonball, Multiple Man, Boomer, Magma and Wolfsbane (my love for the New Mutants characters knows no bounds) become supporters. Amazing.

I've also made a Muppet Babies DVD with 8 episodes from season 1, and I have the DVD that came with my Gonzo plush toy. I'm really a 7 year old girl, by the way. blink.gif

Has anyone else seen all of the homemade DVDs of old Nickelodeon shows on ebay? Homemade sets of Hey Dude! and Salute Your Shorts go for big bucks. I'm just not sure about buying homemade anything off of ebay.

As for NewsRadio, it was originally supposed to come out around February of 2004 but was delayed by either rights or Paul Simms wanting to do special features. It was then slated to be released before the end of the year, but that didn't happen. I think the new tentative date is before May of 2005.

We should ask our moms if we can hang out after school on Friday. We'll watch DVDs and read comic books. I might bring my action figures.

Thanks to RD, I finally got a taste of Da Ali G Show: Da Compleet First Season. Good shit. Thanks, Rob.

I spent a good part of the holidays watching Family Business season 1. For those who don't know, this is a Showtime Original day-in-the-life type of reality series that follows around famed porn producer/director/writer Seymour Butts. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to know about what goes on behind the scenes at a porno shoot. By the way, it's pretty explicit.

I also love the White Stripes DVD.

I'm still waiting for the perfect time to watch American Pimp: Raw Footage, but the soundtrack is amazing.

Also thanks to RD, I got the Chappelle's Show (Season 1). I also used some of my Chanukah money to buy Family Guy (Season 3), and The Simpsons (Season 5). And a few weeks ago I bought myself the Survivor All-Stars DVDs. It's a good time to be single and bored.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

I got Volume 2 of Pee-Wee's Playhouse on DVD for Christmas, and I was going to go buy the first volume myself even though I already have the VHS box...but I heard they're going to be releasing another round of the same episodes but with special features sometime soon in the future...so I'm holding off on the first box until I find out more.

The most exciting news ever is that the rest of Twin Peaks is finally going to be released on DVD. Now all those poor people who don't own the lovely VHS boxset will be able to see the rest of the series...and I'll have it all on DVD. ...It's only a matter of time.

Oh, I got all 6 sealed VHS tapes of Today's Special for Christmas. I know it's not a DVD box, but still kind of on topic. I freaked out when I opened it.

Before too long, I'm going to break down and buy the Home Movies boxset.

anyway, last week I got home movies volume one and golden girls volume one. good times.

i am the only person on the planet who doesn't like curb your enthusiasm. its just so . . . annoying. and i realize that to be the point. but it doesn't help.

by the way, my parents gave my boyfriend 3 seinfeld DVDs for christmas and they are in fact aweseme.

I got Begman's God and Man trilogy on DVD for christmas as well as the set of the Decalogue films. I'm also got Season 3 of Curb your Enthusiasm although it hasn't arrived yet.
Anyone else seen the bootleg DVD of Rad? It's awesome. It's got the Real Life - Send Me an Angel music video on it as a special feature. There's no real Rad DVD which is a rather sad affair.

Has anyone seen this film? It's got a BMX biking scene at prom where the protagonist and Aunt Becky from full house dance on bikes. Aunt Becky of course is a man with a black wig whenever the BMX stunts are performed. It's a must see.

i'd really like to see this as i've become really interested in david lynch, but seeing as my girlfriend hates anything the man touches, i doubt i'll ever get the chance.

maybe video culture will get a copy and i'll be able to rent it someday...

I really want to see that. How many childhood memories will that stir up?

I got Curb Your Enthusiasm season 3 for Christmas. I just finished watching it, and it was pretty disappointing. There are a few good episodes, but most are predictable and not very creative. Nothing beats Season 2's "Thor" episode...I've never laughed so hard in my life.

Honestly, I like this show better than Seinfeld. I always liked Seinfeld, but after a while, I got sick of the characters and would rather listen to Seinfeld stand-up. The first two seasons of "Curb" are so much funnier to me.
Why would you do that?
