...was dull. but i like movies about people with special needs (the politically correct term), so it was fine.

Leonardo DiCaprio has still pulled it off the best though. Almost...Too...Well.
Eh.

I thought the exact same thing when I saw these previews. Sean Penn also did a pretty good job in I Am Sam. Why do we take so much pleasure in seeing movies centered around people with "special needs"?

I dont know...i think its probably rooted in a lot of sad stereotypes that we all have built into us already. A lot of the whole rooting for the "underdog" as bad as it sounds...
And of course all of the people with "special needs" are played by actors who arent truly that way so that is a draw of some sort.

I guess i go to see those movies because im a fan of eccentric charcaters. The Royal Tenebaums was exactly the same. without the "special needs" part.
Eh.

Actually, some of the actors who played Sam's friends in I Am Sam were retarded. There was an outtake were the lawyer was questioning his friends and she asked one of them how long he had known Sam. When he said four years, she asked how he had met him and he replied, "Through this movie".

Of course, we can't foget Corky.

Hah! I suppose i was referring to the majority of movies that feature characters that are retarded. But you are correct.

And of course we can't forget Corky. I vividly still remember that episode where he was taking his driving test and went straight into a tree. Wha Happen!
Eh.

The best movie ever about "retarded" people/kids whatever is actually a documentary. Its called "Graduating Peter" it's been on HBO a few times but you can probably rent it as well.

If you don't tear up by the end of this you are more cold-hearted than the Grinch.

Love it. Quote it.

I love movies about retarded people. The Boys Next Door was a Hallmark video that came on TV. It boasted Nathan Lane and the hilarious Michael Jeter (RIP).
