I think this could be very funny if done right. I've seen the trailor and it doesn't look that bad. It's not playing in Nashville yet but I'm sure it will be soon. What does everyone else think?

I saw a clip of the movie when Mandy Moore was on Letterman. I want to see this very much. It looks somehow very, very sweet.
That's so NA.

it got great reviews. and i watched mac culkin on larry king live last night. it was weird. hes dating that seventies show [and family guy] brunette. he spoke very quickly [and seemed hyper] but was quite articulate.
by the way, i really want to see this movie.

I watched that as well. I also thought he seemed very articulate and very level-headed, if a little under the influence of Speed.

This was my impression hearing him on Terry Gross today, too. Celebrities use the phrase "kind of" entirely too much.

Since it's produced by Micheal Stipe it has the potential of being an anomalous teen satire which would be refreshing compared to the crap that has came out lately.

I saw it on Friday and was pretty let down. The plot was extremely predicatable and there weren't as many jokes towards the end of the film. It wasn't a bad movie but I probably should have waited for it to come out on video.

Yeah, it was a predictable teen movie, but it was awfully precious & sincere along the way. It was so refreshing to see something a little different that was not cynical or angry or bored or boring. There were some legitimately funny scenes & a lot more that were fine to watch, if not great. But I may have sex-colored glasses on, as roadie & jc mentioned. YES, I have had a crush on Patrick Fugit since Almost Famous. How could you not? But for girl-lovers, you may be disappointed by Mandy's hideous hairdo...although that may not be your favorite feature of hers. Jenna is sweet & adorable as always.

i saw it tonight--it was pretty good. some of the scenes made me a little uncomfortable, given my devout christian heritage, but other than that, it was fairly pleasant. i really enjoyed the inclusion of the travis song 'flowers in the window' at the end as well, though i'm sure i visibly blanch every time he sings "bad, sad, mad". overall, not as good as it could have been, but miles better than i thought it would be. so, given that i'm the toughest critic on my block, it must be a pretty fine film.

Mmmm......Patrick Fugit...sorry...had to get that out of the way first =)
I also saw this movie this past weekend - I'd been waiting for months, and I wasn't disappointed. I thought Macaulay Culkin was amazing in it especially. It seemed like almost all the truly funny lines came from him. After watching it I thought it was ironic that it got so many protests from right-wing Christians because (and I thought the same thing about Dogma) when it comes down to it, the movie is definitely PRO-Christianity, just not closed-minded Christianity. It was also surreal because I had my share of church camps and revivals and stuff when I was younger, and it was like "Oh my God, I knew people like that! I may have even ACTED like that at some point! Ahh!" Very weird. Anyway, that's my two cents!

Yeah, it was an okay movie. There were definitely alot of little funny quips in it (like the name of the high school). But it wasn't hillarious, and it got overly preachy at the end. Like, "Just in case you didn't get the point of what the entire movie is trying to say, we're going to beat you over the head with it using an odious voice-over at the end".

I'd say rent it.

Yeah it was actually pretty good until she got pregnant, then it went downhill from there. It was like a major teen flick that had an obvious story line. If you turn gay and your ex-girlfriend is pregnant on the first time ever doing it, you wouldnt be like thats awesome, you would be oh hell I got a girl pregnant. My point is there was hardly any reality.

it made me laugh heartily, but not in a kids in the hall way, in a rushmore way. ph34r.gif

This is why I enjoyed it as much as I did. Well, that and Miss Mandy Moore. Perhaps appreciation for the movie requires one to have given the ubiquitous testimony at more that a few church camp alter calls (or as JamieCarroll termed "Cry Night").

How bout that "God Only Knows" duet with Mandy and Mr. Stipe over the closing credits? Creepy.

Yeah, pretty creepy. You could barely hear Stipe at all over Mandy though. Kinda disappointing.

I actually just finished watching it, and I think it was a very accurate satire of some Baptist fanatics. I attended a church that was in this style, except not as extreme, and I found myself noticing so much of the "truth" I do not like so called christians who are too extreme, and I think this movie shines some much needed light on that subject. The story was very good and my fav. part was the boyfriend who was sent away to get rid of his unnatural feelings...only to fall in love with his male roommate. Ah...lol

I just saw this one recently. It's half of a good movie. The first half is clever and funny, but the second is beyond terrible.

I don't think there's anything wrong with being a Christian who is too extreme, but it's just that the meaning of that in our society has become synonymous with what is depicted in Saved.
