In my opinion, the original will always be better due to its low budget, gritty feel.
The second is worth seeing, however, because they changed the plot enough to keep it interesting and unpredictable. They tried to maintain a lot of the understated gore as well (although they couldn't resist the urge to have some close-up shots of bulletwounds and severed appendages). Plus, Jessica Beale looks
super-hott in a wet white t-shirt.
Many will unfairly compare this to the remake of Psycho (another classic that borrowed a little from the story of that lovable Ed Gein). In that one (I'm told), they did a frame-by-frame re-creation of the original for a completely pointless experience. This was not like that whatsoever.
(By the way, I assume you were asking about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and not the Turner Classic Movies channel, right?)
