TOPIC: The Dawn of the Dead

has anyone else seen the trailer for the dawn of the dead remake yet? it is exactly what you think it would be but they throw in a sparklehorse song at the very beginning that made me grin.

only they could save a remake of a hilariously bad zombie/mall movie. ok well maybe Ving Rhames can lend a hand too.
Eh.

I don't think Dawn of the Dead was a "bad" zombie movie, I think it was one of the best ever!! The special effects are AWESOME, especially for the time. The story is good, and there are lots of political and social issues addressed in the plot (consumerism, racism). Now Day of the Dead, on the other hand, is the low point for me. It doen't focus on the zombies hardly at all, just the remaining humans losing their minds. And I can only stand watching people argue for so long....

I saw a preview for this last night and must say I'm a little excited about it. I've seen a few versions, but the one I saw last night started with the little girl on the roller blades. My "date" was flipping out 30 seconds into it (the preview, I mean).

Of course nothing Ving Rhames does will ever be as terrifying as the pawn shop scene from Pulp Fiction.

I'm going to definitely be there for the premiere of the remake, but I'm not so sure it's going to be something I'll be hollerin' from the rooftops for. Like Ben*Slack said, the first one had a lot of social commentary that will probably be thrown in the gutter for the remake.

And I've got to say that Day of the Dead is killer for a totally different reason. Considering the decade in which the movie was made along with the setting and characters, Day had a lot going on as well. Personally, I just prefer the cartoonish Dawn to the bleak Day.

Yes, I'm a dork.

Day of the Dead was cool. Have you all seen the new DVD that came out a few months ago? It's killer. The day it came out Target had it for $12.99.!
It's pretty neat to see the characters slowly lose their minds..... I also like the whole scientific and military take on the subject. But, the title music has to go. Best title music ever: Re-Animator! (even though it's a total rip off of Psycho).

I bought mine at Tower on the "Day" it was released and I paid a staggering $29.99 for it. Still worth it though. Anchor Bay is supposed to be giving "Dawn" the same treatment and I wouldn't be surprised to see it out around the premiere of the remake.

I will be seeing this one on the day of it's release. My buddy Liam has the same love for said movies as I do, so we've already made plans. And, if anyone interferes with our movie-watching experience, we will destroy.

I am really excited about Dawn of the Dead. I also apologize to James Riot because I forced him to watch Day of the Dead first instead of the right way. Also, see 28 Days Later if you want a good zombie movie!

Don't apologize. I thought it was great. You can't go wrong with zombies ripping people's faces off!

I'll probably be picking this up (because it's dirt cheap), but I can't wait until the special edition comes out right before Halloween. It's going to have the director's cut, and be a multi-disc set. From what I've heard, this one's pretty barebones.
I like Dawn of the Dead a lot. The only thing I have against it is the late 70s feel to it, like zombies in bell-bottoms and the 70s sounding sountrack. I absolutely love Night of the Living Dead, I don't care what other people say. It is timeless, and really really fun as a movie. I still end up watching it a least a few times a year! Plus, the ending is such a downer.

I spent last night swilling Coors and watching my newly-purchased DVD copy of "Dawn." It beats the ever-loving shit out of the 10 year old VHS realease I've been watching. I swear it was made from a reel that was used as a toilet at some point.

And I agree with BittersweetMe about "28 Days Later." It was a fun movie and pretty well made. The original ending was syrupy, but the other endings were dead on. So to speak.

I'm in total agreement. Great movie and a really good example of the kind of dramatic effect you can get even on a low budget.

the scene with the rats in 28 Day Later was creepy as all hell.

Dawn of the Dead was great, I had the original at one point and always enjoyed it. The remake can't possibly be worse than the Night of the Living Dead remake, that is for sure

Return of the Living Dead and Day of the Dead are both on the Sci-Fi channel today. So is Night of the Comet.
And sometime (maybe tomorrow?) Sci-fi is showing the first 10 minutes of the Dawn remake???

Holy shit! The "reinvisioned" version of Dawn of the Dead is fantastic. Everyone, go see it! The first ten minutes of the movie you cannot move. And damn, those zombies were fast, which made the flick really scary, much better than zombies stumbling around slowly. I think this movie is right up there with 28 Days Later. If you like carnage, this is your slice of cake. I am looking forward to Zach Synder's next movie. I just hope the next one is an "original."

I think this movie is everything 28 Days Later wishes it would be. Plus it had a good ending.

Speaking of the ending, here's a tip: don't be like 90% of the crowd at my viewing. Don't leave the theater before the credits. The movie's not over folks! More importantly, there's some really nice boobies cool.gif

I did stay and the ending was interesting. I just wish they had shown the clips together without the fucking credits rolling. Oh, yes, for you guys out there who like doses of random nudity and adult situations, Dawn of the Dead grants your wish. And if you think you are alone in your desire to be in a mall alone, try on exciting lingerie, and have wild sex, "Dawn" wants to give you the reassurance that you are not really alone in that desire. Go get in line for your tickets now.

I'm going tonight and I'm so excited. This movie looks great. I bought the original and I think it should be shown to anyone who goes to the mall more than once a month. A great commentary on consumerism. I think all filmmaker's goal should be to reduce their message into a simple zombie conceit.

I knew this was going to be no typical bad horror remake when they used Johnny Cash's "The Man Comes Around" as the opening title music. Great movie. Very well done and the acting was so much better than what I could have expected for this genre. It helps to have Sarah Polley and Ving Rhames, of course.

I love that he has a tattoo that says, "Ving," and it is clearly visible in the movie. I just kept expecting him to say lines from Pulp Fiction. Or for Zed the Zombie to be the one who rapes him to death.

I was glad that the song over the credits was in it:

"Bunch of people have died, died...
And they were all my friends."

I was starting to think that I had made this song up.

I loved 28 Days Later, but The Dawn of the Dead is much better just because of its ending. Like Carol said, STAY THROUGH THE CREDITS!

Ever since the Thriller video came out when I was little, the idea of zombies is the thing that most freaks me out.

And I did laugh at some parts. Like the part where... oh wait, I don't want to be that guy.

The first time I saw the part where he becomes a zombie and looked up at that chick, I flipped out hardcore. I ran screaming and crying into my aunt's bedroom. I think I was 19.

And don't call me Carol!

oops, sorry, freudian slip.

I was afraid of zombies, the dark, werewolves, and michael jackson after I saw that video.

of course if i was a boy i would've had a valid reason to be afraid of michael.
