TOPIC: The Girl with the Pearl Earring

I love Scarlett Johanssen and Colin Firth, and this looks like it'll be really very interesting. It's amazing how much they are able to make Scarlett resemble the painting.

Oh and it's The Girl with A Pearl Earring, not THE..sorry. I thought I'd correct that although I feel like Jack Black in High Fidelity when he says, "I believe it's THE #3 with a smile b/c it's referring to a Chinese dish."

Why would you do that?

I am also interested in seeing this movie. My roomate and I have been on a Colin Firth kick as of late.

Scarlett is pretty, too.
That's so NA.

Yeah, I love Colin so much, and Scarlett is one of my new favorites. I really want to see it.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

The book was okay.

Not sure if I'll have time to see this soon, but maybe this weekend.

Colin Firth is wonderful.

Saw it last night. I fell asleep during the middle, but I caught the end and the beginning. Token can give it a better review than I. Colin Firth looked like Inigo Montoya from the Princess Bride. Scarlett Johannson looked like...like...well, she looked bad. She was all, "Hey, I'm a maid. I don't talk much." He was all, "Hey, I'm a painting guy, let me paint you with this pearl earring." Then she was all, "OK." Then he was all painting her and everything, and then he finished. Then he was all, "You killed my father, prepare to die." OK, he didn't say that last part, but I wanted him to.

My liking for the movie was about equal to my admiration of the book. The highlights were the chemistry between Greit and VerMeer and the beautiful lighting and attention to detail.

The low was just that it is very sloooooow and not all that dramatic.

Overall, I enjoyed it, but not immensely.

I don't think Scarlett Johannson looked bad. I thought she was a good choice for the girl figured in the painting.

Does anyone else think she looks a hell of a lot like Courtney Love these days? It's probably just me.

Funny you should say that.. I was watching the Globes (as they now hipply call it) and thinking the same thing. She looks like 1997 Courtney all polished up for Hollywood.

I saw a picture of her in a magazine of some sort and tried to ignore the resemblance. She needs to not have the blonde hair. I was also not pleased with her appearance at the Golden Globes.

So, I went and saw this last night. It was OK, not amazing. Good, not great. Scarlett is pretty and Colin is hot, the story was nice, but it seemed to move rather slow. I give it three out of a possible five stars.
That's so NA.

I need to see this... my wife went and told me that I need to see it for the tech aspects... that the lighting was brilliant... when she notices that type of stuff, it must be something special. She said it looked like a painting come alive.

I would agree with your wife although I am also pretty ignorant of that type of stuff. This, aside with my infatuation with Colin Firth, and the fact that I've read the book, and am, well, a nerd, made the movie enjoyable to me.

I finally saw this. I was disappointed. The film was pretty in how the lighting resembled a Vermeer painting, and Colin Firth and Cillian Murphy were pretty as well. I hated that Scarlett used Cillian as her Colin Firth substitute...although that would be a difficult decision, yes. Scarlett J.'s acting kind of got on my nerves and I felt like a lot of her character's actions were unmotivated (you refuse to show your hair and you can only lick your lips in the most modest way possible, but have no qualms walking into a whorehouse type place and grabbing your boy-toy for your first sexual experience??? is this the same character??). Overall it was disappointing. Not bad. Good, but not great.
Why would you do that?
