I read a spoiler that he dies in the end... so I doubt I see it.

In all seriousness though as previously explained on thise forum, I have boycotted all Mel Gibson films since Braveheart ('Signs' being the only indiscretion, and I'm still flogging myself in a Christ-like manner over that one)

Until he returns his sham Oscar I won't see another.

The movie was basically a Pay-Per-View execution. I think it had more gore than Hellraiser. Not really much of an incentive to draw people into Christianity, but I'd highly recommend it for horror movie buffs.

Did Letterman say this? I wouldn't know... I work from 6pm to 3am. No TV for me. It's not like it was a huge stretch at humor. Maybe he stole it from me.

We have, here. Feel free to make your comments here though.
Yeah, I will, if only because I don't feel as familiar with the DND board. I have a lot of things to say about the movie after seeing it last night, but briefly:

I didn't like it & I wouldn't particularly recommend it. The horrific violence & constant melodrama just didn't add up to a well-made movie. And I feel like if you're a devout Christian, this movie isn't going to tell you anything you don't already believe. If you're not (which I should disclose includes me), it's a gory depiction of the darkest hour in the life of a man who spent all the other hours of his life modeling & teaching goodness. I guess for me, it's the least valuable lesson to be drawn from Jesus's life.

Also, I read some of the criticism of it being anti-Jewish ahead of time, and I completely expected to disagree. Like RD said on the other board, filmmakers are allowed to insert their own perspective into historical films. So I was surprised to find that I was offended by the portrayal of Jews in the movie. The vast majority were caricatures of old Jewish stereotypes, shown as a greedy, self-serving, hysterical crowd. Pilate & other Roman leaders come across as enlightened & thoughtful & are practically absolved of any blame. It's annoying & inaccurate, but I don't think it will make anyone who isn't a already a crazy Nazi hate Jews.

The good parts are the Mary-Jesus relationship & the guy who carries the cross. Don't even ask how cheesy the Satan-related parts are.

And finally: a woman was taken out of our showing on a stretcher!! I think she just tripped, though. Strange thing was, they didn't stop the film.

well, I finally went to see it and I'll go ahead and say that I think it will be hard for anyone to enjoy this film . No matter how you feel about Christianity, I can't see any decent person being able to enjoy watching someone being put to death so violently.

I didn't see any traces of anti-semitism(sp) Sure the jewish leaders were portrayed as extremely sinister, pious people, but thats how they described in the bible... And that is after all, where the story came from. Besides, almost everyone in the movie was against christ. It's definitely a matter of personal opinion- I think a number of people could go into this movie and everyone would all think differently about it.

I will say it didn't have the effect on me I thought it would. In fact, I'm not sure how I feel about this movie just yet. I certainly don't see all the controversy in it.

My roomate went to see this movie last night and she's not religious at all. She said that the entire experienceof it just made her feel down and horrible after leaving the theater. She said that the movie just shows the torture so much.. it was unbelievable to her. She said if she could go back she wouldn't have went to see it and would have waited to rent it... THose were just here thoughts on it I haven't seen the movie. I personally don't like going to the movies to feel down afterwards so I'll probably just wait til it comes out on video.. even though one of my sisters is really wanting me to go see it with her.

I just got back from seeing this movie and I thought it was great. It was extremely to graphic and when they were chastizing jesus it was to much any normal man would have died. It exaggerated a little to much. But It moved me, and I felt bad because there were people crying sad.gif

I haven't seen the film yet, but really, if someone wants to cry during a movie, why should that inspire laughter in others or be something to make fun of? This is a subject that people get emotional about, so it is a no-brainer that some would be moved to tears.

Personally, I tear up when the cast of Friends is on TV or on a weekly basis with Angel. So?

I cry when something incredibly tragic happens that involves me. I cried at my grandmother's funeral. Stuff like that. I may feel sad about other stuff, but it doesn't move me to tears, especially sitcoms and movies.

Though, since you do really like sitcoms and the like, it is understandable that you would have more of an emotional attachment to them than I would.

The real question is: Why would we laugh at anything that we observe? If someone intends for us to laugh at them, it's ok, but we all laugh at stuff that is hurtful to others, in one way or another. Personal convictions can make something funny to one person and not so funny to another person. You can also insert "sad" where "funny" is in the previous sentence.

well, I almost cried during the 11-07-03 features show at 12th and porter. i guess the nostalgic feeling really got to me?

I cried when I lost my parrot after having it only a year (although part of this was b/c they are supposed to live 25+ years and are kind of expensive compared to most pets... kind of like when people cry after crashing their new car)

I think I teared up at a titans game at some point either last season or the one before that- I don't remember the specifics, but it might have been an overwhelming feeling of joy.

for some reason I don't cry when I really should (like when relatives die), although I'm sure I will when it's someone i'm extremely close to.

RD makes a good point about it being a very personal thing. And for some reason, I feel very vulnerable admitting these things to people I don't know... hmmm, something to think about i guess.

extremists are always annoying no matter what they are fanatical about. <--- something I think we've talked about on here before.

I've grown up in several churches, and I can understand exactly why some people have a problem with "Christians". Some "Christians" get so wrapped up in pure theology and politics that they miss the real message. They become arrogant and pious to the point that people hate them.... I have no problem seeing why people can't stand the cookie cutter Christian.

A majorly devoted christian is one who prepare their kids for the return of the anti-Christ(think ned flanders), and brings god into every conversation. One who doesnt let their kids watch t.v beacause they think it is to negative, and one who wont let their child decide if he wants to be saved. A normal one is a laid back christian that prays and beleives but is not majorly uptight about everything.

How can you made/make your homework?

Uptight and Laidback are loaded words, meaning they include negative and or positive connotations that actually describe little of what you are trying to say.

I know what you are trying to say, I think, and I will summarize it for you:

Christians who are very outspoken really get on my nerves. Christians who are more reserved about their public exhibition of faith are more to my liking.

See Joeywade's post for a more appropriate response. I am just being "uptight" and annoying.

I so forgot to mention that they were passing out tissues before the movie started...

Well anyway to answer the question.. I'm an easy cryer when it comes to movies.. lol I cried when I watched Free Willy (why do I tell so much crap on this board) but that was when i was like 11 but the point is I cry when watching movies sometimes... it could be from a heroic good feeling or a sad death feeling.. i dunno. When I was little like 4 my mama told me that I used to cry when slow love songs played on the radio in the car. yep now wouldn't that freak you out. I would be on the backseat crying and she would ask me what was wrong and I would be like the song is sad sad.gif I was a crazy kid.. which explains alot now.

after seeing the movie i can say anyone who is whining about the movie being overtly violent is missing the entire point. if Gibson was the produce a film where Jesus got slapped on the hand and passed out it wouldve been even more insulting.
i would recommend this movie because i thought the Mary/Jesus relationship was beautifully acted, the lighting is great and the make-up/costumes were very well done. The only gripe i had was with the beginning and end scenes involving Satan. I dont think he messed up the movie as much as some of you think, but he did add some cheese to it.

I have not seen Passion yet, but I have a great story. Went to eat at Subway on Saturday night and one of the guys working there was kinda out of it. He said he was really tired and that "the Passion" wore him out. We asked him if he enjoyed it and this is what he said and I quote, "Yeah, yeah, it was awesome, it was better than...than....the Lion King." Best Fucking quote ever. So now I think there should be a new poster saying, "See Mel Gibson's movie The Passion of the Christ, as recommended by Subway guy, it is better than the Lion King." GREAT!!!

"This star thing, I don't get it."
"Look at that lip. Gonna bite it."

Well anyway to answer the question.. I'm an easy cryer when it comes to movies.. lol I cried when I watched Free Willy (why do I tell so much crap on this board) but that was when i was like 11 but the point is I cry when watching movies sometimes
Don't worry. I cried in Top Gun when Goose died. Of course, I was like 5 at the time.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

I love the part where Maverick goes to console Goose's widow (Meg Ryan) and he does that thing where he crys and gets almost violent at the same time. Cruise always does that.

Speaking of Meg Ryan I cried off of 'City of Angels' with Nicholas Cage hey it was sad..

But back to the subject of Passions: I got up to watch the news today and they were having a discussion about it on channel 50 you know where people could call in and give there opinon about the movie. I was glued to the TV for a while Just hearing some of the comments people were making was interesting. It ranged from "this movie was the best thing for me it helped me see what god really went through.. it created a picture that the bible hadn't done for me" to "Why did it have to be so graphic?... other movies have told the story of christ and it wasn't so violent" It was a good discussion.

When I was little like 4 my mama told me that I used to cry when slow love songs played on the radio in the car. yep now wouldn't that freak you out. I would be on the backseat crying and she would ask me what was wrong and I would be like the song is sad sad.gif
That story makes me want to cry. Little kids crying is sad...well, as long as it's not b/c they can't get a happy meal, or an unhappy meal, as my Dad called them.
Why would you do that?

The worst was when they said, "You're getting the paddle when you get home," and then you start crying and begging and then they said, "If you keep crying, then you're definitely going to get it," so you never knew what to do. It was so miserable. I would suddenly get amazingly sweet in hopes of making them forget.
Why would you do that?

Everybody who hasn't seen the Passion should go.
