I saw this movie a few years back, I'm just curious as to what other people thought of it.

You must choose. It is like that movie "Sofie's Choice" only it is Nathan's choice. Do you know that movie, "Sofie's Choice"? It is like that. Only it is this.

Todd Solondz is a filmmaker whose work is hard to watch. I won't deny that the man has talent, but I think that having absolutely no regard for one's audience is a dangerously ineffective way to make films.

That said, this is the film of his I haven't seen. Just thought that the above needed to be said.

You may like grandma's yard gnomes, but I've seen Rock City. Remember it.

It's been a few years since I've seen it but I remember it being disturbingly funny. Heather Matarazzo's "boyfriend" in the film was in Empire Records, I always found that weird.

welcome to the dollhouse is one of the greatest movies ever, in my opinion. absolutely hysterical. never seen a movie quite like it. dawn ruled!!! she wore a dress in the movie that i actually wore as a kid, from Gap Kids (katie, remember that dress?? the sleevless floral one...) but no, the humor in the movie is absolutely wonderful.
actually at one of the r.e.m concerts, while mills or peter were tuning or something, there was a brief lull, and stipe started singing the "welcome to the dollhouse" song...and it was awesome. yeah.
i actually wanna go watch that now.
right you are, ken!

I saw it. It was ok, not the best, not the worst. I do like the fact that Warren is in it though.
thank you for being a friend.

It was by some director that did some other weird stuff but was kind of good, i think maybe Todd Solons. Correct me if I'm wrong and I probly am. But he is one F-ed up director, Happiness was an excellent movie but I couldnt figure out how to feel normal for like a day and a half after seeing it.
THE CHECK IS IN THE MAIL

yeah, it was todd solondz. the only reason i am familiar with him is that he did 'storytelling'--i didn't see it, but i bought the b & s soundtrack, of course. i've heard so many bad things about his films that i don't feel compelled to subject myself to them...i find enough things about my own reality disturbing, so i don't need anything to further distress me, really. i'm good.

I liked all of his movies that I saw, but they make me queasy & they definitely seem a little too eager to make everyone uncomfortable. There are some really hilarious parts, though, and also some really truthful parts. I think Happiness was the best one, but I have a bit of an obsession with P.S. Hoffman
