Superman 2 was really good, but 3 and 4 weren't as slick. I do think, though, that the 80's and early 90's belonged to DC, while Marvel has since kicked ass. As a former comic book junkie and DC fan, I must remind everyone of the Captain America, Howard the Duck, and Punisher movies. Nuff said.
Indeed. DC started out strong and then did a nosedive, while Marvel started out ridiculously horrible and is now going strong. Hopefully with the new Superman and Batman films coming out alongside the eventual FF movie and Spidey/X-sequels, both companies will share success at the same time.
Although, I think that DC should move on to other characters. Yeah, Batman and Superman are the quinntessential heroes, but they've been done to death. Speaking as a comic fan, reception towards "Smallville" is pretty darn positive and I don't think Supes needs a movie
at this time. When is Wonder Woman going to happen? Where is Green Lantern? Or heck, why don't they just slap them all together and do JLA? That would be cool.
In terms of licensing characters, I think Marvel is the stronger of the two companies. DC seems to solely rely on the strength of Supes and Bats, while Marvel has a vast assortment of characters that haven't had films yet. We have still yet to see Avengers, Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four, etc. I guess what I'm getting at is that the general public recognizes Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman more than any other Marvel character. But, after those three, I can't think of any other DC characters that register with the public as much as Ghost Rider, Punisher, Captain America, the Fantastic Four. Once again, I'm a die-hard Marvel fan, so I'm biased.
I love how there are important political debates being held, and I'm the one discussing comic book movies. I'm such a 10-year-old.
