Well, it's that time again... As the next 12th & Porter show approaches, we have to begin wondering if the show will be 21+ or 18+. Does anyone know? Historically, if the Features headline the show, it turns into an 18 and up show, but that's never guaranteed. Does anyone have the inside dope on this?

I was talking to one of the Obscure guys and they said that it was going to be 18+.

I don't know how reliable that is. Probably if Rory is taking money like he has in the past, it will be.

I don't remember the last time I was carded at the door there. It seems like they only card at the bar now, or if they do card at the door, they put the big black X's on your hands. If you are nervous about getting in, call before you go.

I called 12th and Porter yesterday, and the woman said that it was 21+, but without any real hesitation to check. I'm making the 5 hour drive, so I really hope that they let my young ass in the door. I hate being 19.

As I recall, there are some windows that on the Porter St. side of the building. Perhaps someone will help you crawl through one of those.

I was at 12th and Porter tonight. The deal is, they got busted for underage drinking a couple weeks ago, so the shows are supposedly strictly 21+. However, tonight the owner was not there so the booker allowed underaged people in and marked most of them with black X's. So it seems like it depends on whether or not the owner is there, so I say just take a chance. It's late and I'm not sober, so I hope this made sense.

I think it's awesome that people are driving from out of town to see this show. It's going to be sooooo fun. It will have been well over a month since the features have played so my guess is that the energy level of both the band and the crowd will be at an all time high. Unless, they've had trouble with underage Features fans trying to by booze in the past, they'll probably let underagers in. That's just my non-expert opinion.

What makes you think I'll be able to get in?  I'm only 17.  I was hoping that it was 18+ so I'd have a better chance of getting to sneak in.

I worked the door for last night's show and probably let a lot of people drink that shouldn't have, because it's too tedious to read every single date. It was also my first time to work a door, and I was drinking. Maybe someone will hook you up, like I did for so many. The side door would be real easy to sneak into also.

I don't want to encourage you to do anything illegal, but I would try to get in with your real ID first (since the Features shows usually become 18+). If you're denied admittance, just go hang out somewhere for half an hour and try again with your fake ID.

The show's only a week away now. Who's planning to be there?

I talked to a guy who works at 12th and Porter last night and he said it would be 21 and over due to the Pub of Love getting busted. The question is how lenient will whoever takes money be? And another question - how come Exit/In can be 18 and over, yet still sell alcohol.

I just don't think 12th and Porter cares if any under 21ers get in. Other than a flat production fee, 12th generally doesn't take anything from the door (unlike, say, The End, who take an amount of money from the door directly proportional to the mood Bruce is in) and thus makes its money from alcohol. Under 21ers, in theory, won't buy alcohol.

Anyway, like somebody already said, it probably just depends on who is doing the door. I would say it is worth the risk to go down there and try to get in. The sound guy has been watching the side door like a hawk lately, so be careful if you want to go that route.

Blightman will be at Bonaroo.
Events I would miss to attend a Features show:
  • Smashing Pumpkins reunion concert at the Grand Ole Opry
  • Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals between the Phoenix Coyotes and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
  • Mankind's first landing on Mars
  • My brother's wedding
  • My own wedding
  • Birth of a niece/nephew/son/daughter/grandchild
  • Free Jolt Cola night at a Nashville Predators game
  • 5-for-1 night at the Oriental Express massage parlor
  • Bonaroo
  • Woodstock ('69 or '99)
  • My own birthday party

I think you misunderstood, ghostie.  Those are events that I would miss for a Features show.  I only listed the Smashing Pumpkins show because I'd assume they'd play a bunch of the new electronic Machina-type stuff.  If, however, they said they would play all of the songs on Gish, Siamese Dream, Pisces Iscariot, and two songs from MCatIS, I would at least think about skipping out on the Features.

I don't think I'd go for that one unless I was absolutely sure they'd play the good stuff. In the last year I've found their whole catalog to be boring and causing this sudden rush of nostalgia involving, 'Suddenly I'm 15 again and going through an identity crisis and full of some strange notion of teenage pain or rage or whatever...'

Tell them a friend of yours has come down with a case of cubicle-itis and needs consoling in Nashville. Nothing a couple really good shows shouldn't cure, but all support is welcome. I've changed locations, but still have a couch for crashing if necessary. Bring me some chicken.

I don't think I am willing to drive 10 hours alone so I will have to miss this show. Everybody sing 'woah oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh ' for me in 'Leave it all Behind.'
