TOPIC: 12th & Porter show?
Posted  Wednesday, November 6, 2002 at 5:41 PM
Post 1 of 26
Did anyone else see the 12th & Porter ad in the Scene today that lists the Features as one of the bands playing at some BMI show on Nov. 11? It says the show starts at 7pm & lists a bunch of other bands, so I don't know if that means bands only play a few songs or what. If anyone has confirming/ conflicting info, do share.

Roger mentioned something about this to me. I'll try and confirm when the guys get back from LA on Friday.

I noticed that they were listed on 12th and Porter's website. I'm too young to get in though, so I didn't get too excited.

yeah, it's a BMI rock showcase, and the Features and Lume are the "headliners." but apparently they're playing a pretty short set--4 or 5 songs maybe??--the show is FREE! i actually work at BMI, and it weirded me out seeing a flyer with the features hanging up in our lunch room (because it's a pretty corporate environment up here).

I'll have to think about this one. Weeknights are usually bad ones.

most of the time at 12th and porter, they don't have someone sitting by the door to take money or look at ID if it's a showcase or something. Same is true for what goes on every monday night, called 12 @ 12th which is one of the best parts of the week. It's a songwriter's night and it's usually pretty decent. sometimes you get people who genuinely suck up there but it's usually pretty good. josh rouse was there this past week just hanging out. always good to see him out on the town when he's here. but recently, they have been coming around at a certain time during 12@12th to make sure there's no one under 21 there, but that's at like 11:00 or something. So, it may be that you get lucky by coming on a night such as this to the BMI showcase because no one checks at this sort of function but you never know. i'd say try it and at least you'd be home at a decent hour if you couldn't get in. or you could stand outside and listen like some have done before. it's only a couple songs. wink.gif

I hope I get there in time for Ingram Hill!

I'll be there, maybe late. Will the two "headliners" flip a coin to see who plays last?
An open frame in the 10th, I WAS ROBBED!

alright...i've learned that no one will be working the door tonight, and it shouldn't be a problem for any under-21ers to get in until the 12 @12th thing starts--basically what featuresgirl said. see you guys tonight!

hahah, no kidding. i was hoping i'd never ever have to see those guys play again. when the features did the show with ingram hill in knoxville, my younger sister worked the merch stand for the features. some ingram hill fans approached the table and asked my little sis if they accepted credit cards. she pointed them to the ingram hill table & told them they probably only took cash. WHO GOES TO A MERCH STAND WITH A CREDIT CARD!? Daddy's credit card for that matter!

most of the time, they don't even check at 12@12th, but recently they have come around at like 11 to check. but they might tonight since the BMI thing is going on first.

I think I asked your sister a bunch of stupid questions about the features...that night was my first show. I thought they were an all girl band by the looks of the merch. She probably thought I was a drunken idiot, and everyone knows I'm not an idiot.

i know a lot of kids who get everything they want and get to use their parents credit cards but there are a bunch of kids who work their asses off to pay for what they buy with their credit cards. so not all credit card carrying kiddos are spoiled brats, just most of them. i do not have a credit card because it is very dangerous-like running with scissors.

I will never understand why kids with credit cards use them to pay for stupid sh!t, like a loaf of bread and a pack of skittles.

I would only use it for important stuff.

another example of the semi-rich kid thing. My roomate goes home for the week end, comes back with like 4 pairs of pants and 5 sweaters, her grandma took her winter shopping a few weeks ago right. Then she said something to me about how her grandaddy gave her like 50 bucks.. this is what came out of her mouth next. "I'm a grown arse woman what do I look like getting just 50 bucks?!" As poor as I am right now, if someone gave me 3 dollars and some peanut butter I'd be appreciative of it. SHe complains like that all of the time.
