Does anyone remember the first time they saw the Features live or heard them? Any interesting stories?

The first song I heard was 'Armani Suede.' My now-brother in law had a radio show on Sunday nights on Thunder 94, where he would play a lot of cool / unknown/ weird bands; stuff you wouldn't normally hear on the radio (not even in Thunder 94's normal rotation). Anyway, he told my little sister & I to listen one night because he was interviewing the Features & he thought we'd like them.  When Armani Suede came on, we thought, 'this song sucks!' but by the end of it, we loved it.  It was a weird thing to experience--going from hating a song to loving it in a matter of minutes.  I probably saw the old lineup about 10 times, and the show that stands out the most was when they wore pink bunny suits at 328.  That seems like a completely different band back then;  it's fun to think about for nostalgia's sake... but I definitely prefer the newer material.  Sorry to ramble on so much...I am bored at work.

ah, it wasn't so long ago, I'll tell you that my love for Matt began to bloom. It was at 12th and porter and i went with overemo. we jumped up and down and rocked out in the front and after the show i said, 'well, I'm in love with that lead singer.' and it's been that way ever since. smile.gif

I first saw the Features in fall 1999 at Sebastian's in Murfreesboro.  They were opening for Slack.  My first impressions were that Rollum looked alot like Alex James and had the best stage presence of any drummer I had ever seen.  Roger was playing an Explorer bass, which was interesting, oh and some combination of the Explorer and a moustache that he had at the time made me think that he might have just gotten off work at Captain D's.  I don't remember thinking anything about Parrish.  Matt had technical difficulties throughout the show.  The only song I remember for certain hearing was 'Circus'.  I did like the show, but I don't think I really got hooked until the second or third time I saw them.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

I transferred to MTSU this January. I was all in a new state and new school and didn't know anybody. The first show I went to was on my 4th day here.. The Features and Jairus at the Boro. It was a perfect introduction to the awesome music scene here. I liked them so much, I drove to Nashville the next night and saw them at the Slow Bar, too. It seems every time things start going wrong, a Features show comes up and rocks me out of worrying about things.

ah, it wasn't very long ago that i was introduced to the features by someone who has one of the weirdest, yet coolest and most eclectic musical tastes i know. to let you know how much the features rock, i saw them at next generations and they only played for about 40 minutes, and my stomach really hurt but i still thought they rocked! i was already a fan before the show thanks to bootlegs, mp3s and EPs (and the wrangler of course). thank you baby Jesus for the features!

I was converted in the fall of 2000 when they shared a bill with Venus Hum & Viva Voce at the Exit/In- I think it was a benefit for WRVU. My roommate & I wanted to check out some local bands and lo & behold our minds were blown. It was kind of like Smee's experience- at first kind of laughing at how unbearably catchy the songs were, then starting to gape, then dancing A LOT. I think Roger and Parrish were both singing that night? Matt was making lots of fun faces and Rollum was kicking ass as usual. Kari Ann was my favorite at the time. Now the circle has been made complete by the last Exit/In show which renewed my fervent devotion...

when i moved to murfreesboro around 3 years ago, some people i met said i should come to this show with them tonight. i asked what show and they said 'this really good band called the features'. well, i never went to the show that night, but a few weeks later matt and rollum happened to come into the place where i worked(i won't say where) and i immediately developed a major crush on matt. he was just so adorable. my friend that i worked with told me he was the singer/guitarist for the features. i, needless to say, went to the next features show (at sebastian's)! well, i couldn't believe what i heard. the music was incredible...i couldn't believe this band was from murfreesboro! and matt, well, i fell madly in love with him that night and i still am.
It's not my fault!

Ahh my first show was back in December with a friend of mine who had been wanting me to go see them forever.  I had listened to some of their songs that he had sent me.  Dark Room, Serious, Armani Suede and Paid to Think... I was disappointed that they only played Dark Room out of those 4 but the show rocked and I have been to I think 4 more shows since.  I have been to every show I could see and probably a few that I couldn't but went anyways.  Heh, I will have to say that Thursday's show at the Boro was far and away the best I have seen from them, I paid the price the next day thought, had to get up at 7 o clock in the morning.  Mmmmmm... school on five hours of sleep.

My first time to see the Features was opening for Self in 97 at the Mercury Theater (rip) in Knoxville. My main memories are the keyboard skronk on 'Hey, Lou', the leaning and catchy keyboard thing on 'Your Smile', and their brilliant cover of 'Sweet Child of Mine'.

I became hooked when I saw them at NEA at Exit/In in 99. All the other bands (Self, the Katies, Superdrag) sucked to high heaven, but the Features just got me. They opened with 'Circus' and that was a great first impression, and 'Thursday' was what really made me love them (so that's a vote for it to stay in the other thread).

My Features' experiences have been so many and so wonderful, I could sit and spin yarns on them all night.
I can't grow a beard, and I don't like to party.

A year ago at 12th and Porter. I was like holy crap, why aren't these guys famous?!! I might have developed a crush on Matt, but when I found out he was married with children that sort of killed it.
