TOPIC: 2004 FeaturesNCAA Tournament Seedings
Posted  Sunday, March 14, 2004 at 6:56 PM
Post 1 of 40
This is the third annual F-NCAA Tournament. It's just like the NCAA college basketball tournament that is about to start, except it will involve songs that the Features play instead of basketball teams. Each 'round' of the tournament will last a couple of days. I will post the new round of matchups as a new thread, and you can vote for which song in each matchup you like better by PMing me or e-mailing me at: btpatton@elvis.net. I will tally the votes at the end of each round and post the results of which songs made it to the next round. One note: judge each song not on any particular recording or performance of that song, but as a Features song in general.
Changes from last year?
-Well, we are now at the point where we don't have to use any covers. All of the songs included are Features originals.
-Also, a note about the seedings. Tom Foolery suggested that we use the results from last year's tounament to determine this years seedings. And I thought that was a great idea, so I did it. I added up all of the total votes that each song got in last year's tournament. The highest totals got the highest seeds. The new songs all went in at the bottom.
Here are the seedings:

Yes, I'm feeling March Maddness HARDCORE!!

On a sort of related note: How about our 'Dores, JC?

Just to clarify: we are voting on our favorites, not the song we expect to win, right?

My prediction: The Way... goes all the way!

This is brilliant, JC.

So, are you going to duplicate all your votes, or are you going to mix it up? I guess this would be nice for all those close calls.

This makes me more than a little nervous. I guess it's good that only a minority of us have actually heard the song.

No. Chemicalhead is a newer song that seems to already have been abandonned. I think it was debuted at the 11/8 show or somewhere around there.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

I think Golden and Mosis Ptosis will probably stick around for a while, but they need more time to mature. Maybe next year they will have a better chance in the playoffs.

I would like to point out how unfortunate it is to see "Armani Suede VS. Rabbit March" and "See You Thru VS. Mosis Ptosis". But, I do not fault the seeding. It is a genius set-up. I just wish that Mosis Ptosis could go deeper into this, as I do not think that it will make it out of Round One.

Yeah, the seeding (which isn't flawed mind you) does give alot of new songs a tough time of it. I just hope voting happens with honesty... do you *really* like Mosis Ptosis more than See You Through?

Don't Lie vs TWIMTB is the matchup of the century...

This is probably the wrong place to ask about this, but since when have any of us cared.

Is there only one version of don't lie to me? And if not, I LOVE the version they played at the 12th and Porter request show. I'm not sure why they wouldn't play this song more, but it is incredible. . . we should start a petition!

I think I heard that it was too high for Pelham to sing. Yes, I know that's what capos are for.

But I'm with you, and would love to see that song back in the rotation. And Burma.

I'm not a big music person so to speak. what are capos?

And yea, don't even get me started on Burma. If I could only pick two songs to bring back into rotation, those would be them.

This year is definitely the best yet. The tough decisions have actually started in the first round! A lot of the lesser known songs have been removed, leaving only heavy hitters to compete. I thought all of these were particularly tough to vote on or predict:

(8) Burma
(9) 33 1/3

(7) The Way It's Meant to Be
(10) Don't Lie to Me

(7) There's a Million Ways to Sing the Blues
(10) D-Con (Radio One)

And the toughest decision:
(2) Walk You Home
(15) Harder 2 Ignore

And this matchup

(2) God Save Rock'n'Roll
(15) Golden

leaves me asking, "Which do I hate MORE?"
I can't grow a beard, and I don't like to party.
