TOPIC: Best Features Bass Line
Posted  Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at 7:11 AM

So which song has the best bassline in it?

I like GSRnR, Kari Anne, Harold, and some others, but my favorite Roger Dabbs bassline goes to

Walk You Home

It rocks.

Discuss.

I like these RD basslines (as if there aren't enough RDs to talk about on here already):

There's A Million Ways...
Blow It Out
God Save RNR - One of the best
Harold
Harder To Ignore
Circus
Temporary Blues - Stragely enough, it's probably my favorite

First of all, let me just reiterate that Roger Dabbs is in my top 5 of bass players of all time. I like my bass melodic, and Roger Dabbs' low notes are music to my ears. He is my mentor.

JamieCarroll's top 5 Roger Dabbs basslines:
5. Buffalo Head
4. Situation Gone Bad
3. Me & the Skirts
2. Temporary Blues
1. Harold
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

The ones that I can hum off the top of my head are "Leave It All Behind" and "God Save Rock & Roll," so that must mean that they are good. Actually, I would attribute the bassline of LIAB to why I think it is just such a great song. "Million Ways To Sing The Blues" is also amazing, as is "The Beginning."

"Walk You Home" gets honorable mention since he plays the bass with a morrocca.

Same topic, next question:

Which bass guitar of Roger's looks the coolest?

the Fender Precision bass (his current one)
the Epiphone Explorer (the angular one)
the Rickenbacker (the black one)

I guess this could've been a poll. Oh well.

There's also a rarely used white Mexican Fender Jazz Bass.

I'm partial to the P-Bass myself. It's subtle, but timeless.

The first time I saw the Features, he was playing the Explorer.

Roger is probably my favorite member of the band to watch perform. And I usually smile the entire length of "Walk You Home" because the bass line is so badass.

He hasn't used it in a while. It's black with a black pickguard.

It's probably my favorite for the way it looks.
However, I think the best low end tones come from the Precision bass.

I love Rickenbackers, but I find the black on black ones very boring looking.

Back in my days of bass playing (many years ago), mine was black with a white pick guard.

I think those are very pretty. Some of my favorite men play that very instrument. smile.gif

Since this song was brought up in another topic, I would add the "Stick Together" demo to the original list of bass line songs. It is very distinct and cool.

I would agree with this. At first, I didn't like the demo that much. Then I really noticed the bass "hook" in the verses. I really, really like it... but I'm silly like that.

buffalo head, satgecoach, see you thru

roger makes me want to quit the bass all together
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

It worked for me. It could have been the bass playing itself, or it might have been subliminal messages in the maraca.
