TOPIC: Best New Features Song of 2002

So the Features unleashed 10 new songs on the world in 2002. And here they are, in order of their introduction. Which one do you like best?

I voted for "Bring On the Night." But truth be told, every single one of these songs is so damn good. It's like we always say: Matt Pelham can't write a bad song. Literally, he cannot.

One thing that I find especially encouraging is that all of these songs seem to have "survived" the year. They're still being played. As we all know, some songs (even great ones) are not so lucky.

bring on the night was a favorite of mine the first time I heard it, some others had to grow on me a bit, a couple never did. Exhibit A i liked a lot form the get-go also, but it's still only a couple weeks old. The unamed song gets better every time it's played, so it could become a contender too. I definatley like the style of all 3 of these songs.

My vote is for Someway, Somehow and I must say that I'm VERY glad that they brought this one back after a 10 or 12 show hiatus. This song just slams me in the chest every time I hear it.

Blow it Out was a VERY close second.

I really like "The Damage is Done" but "Bring on the Night" rules me.

Wow... if that were the tracklist for a future release, I'd dance a jig... seriously, what a great year of songwriting... all songs that I go to a show hoping I'll hear.

I had to go with "Buffalo Head", but "Look Out Below" and "Someway Somehow" are close behind, with "Me and the Skirts" and "Growing Old" (and hell, all of 'em, right?) deserving honorable mention. I feel that this list represents alot of the best of the band's work.

I voted for "Someway, Somehow". "Me and the Skirts" is a close second. Parrish just seems so into that song. They are all great songs and love hearing all of them. smile.gif

I voted for "Buffalo Head", but "The Damage is Done" and several of the others were close seconds. I absolutely love them all though. I love all of the newer songs too, especially "Me and the Skirts."

I voted for "The Idea of Growing Old". I have always loved that song. And, I believe that I might have been at the show when they first played it. I plan to have it as one of my wedding songs. rolleyes.gif None of this Olivia Newton John (although I liked Grease, and I like her) stuff about "I Honestly Love You". I would rather have a cool AND sweet song rather than just a sweet song. But, that's a little way down the road anyway.
Wow. I got off topic...Anyway, "The Idea of Growing Old" gets the vote for me.

I voted for "Bring on the Night." It's such a fun song... it's like there's a party in my mouth and everyone's invited!

JC, this is the best poll ever. How will these ten new songs affect the seeding of the 2003 NCAA-Features song tournament?
grass stains, airplanes, anything and everything

Well, TF, two of these songs (Blow it Out & Buffalo Head) were in the tournament. But I expect much stronger showings from them this year. Just like is the case in college basketball, a lot can happen between now and March...

I voted for "Idea Of Growing Old" for the same reasons that Stephanie did. It is so good and when they played it at the Red Rose Friday nite, it just sounded better than ever.

BUT "Blow It Out" is a classic in my head, "The Damage Is Done" is one of my favorite Features songs ever, "Bring On The Night" and "Someway,Somehow" feature Parrish at his best, Rollum's drumming on "Look Out Below" is amazing, Roger's backing vocals on "Me & The Skirts" rocks...and of course Matt is the genius who gives them all life. It was a very tough decision.

Had to go with "Me and the Skirts" because I can most identify with this tune. "Buffalo Head" a close second, but all are soon to be classics.

I want to hear The Damage Is Done again. I get the feeling that Rollum is the only one who likes it since he couldn't talk Matt into playing it at the last Boro show.

Thanks a buch IWE, I was bored at work yesterday listening to my DCFC catalogue and decided it was time for an avatar change. I proceeded to go out and buy Alltime Quarterback (gibbard's "side project"). I haven't listened to it much yet, but it sounds like all his other stuff. Have you checked it out yet?

Sorry about the tangent...

Don't you dare apologize for such a wonderful tangent...I have heard the All Time Quarterback project and thought that it was pretty good. Like you said, it sounds like the other stuff. Have you heard the "new" CD. It's cool to hear how some of those songs evolved to the ones on Something About Airplanes. BTW, where you at Great Escape a week or so ago buying the Royal Tenenbaums DVD??

Yeah, that was me, and yes, I recognized you and Digsy (?). I couldn't think of anything clever to say, so I kept my mouth shut. I was gonna say something like, "Hey, aren't you both huge Features fans?" Man, I'm so lame...

Yeah, I got the "new" DCFC CD without ever having heard Something About Airplanes. I dig it a lot, but I think I gotta go with the Photo Album as my current favorite (especially if you include the bonus disc with their cover of All is Full of Love-- ohhhh, so good).

Same here, but I think I win the "lame" award since I said the world "Caligula" very loudly when we were in the DVD section. Ah well, at least we're all generally getting better at talking to each other at shows. Maybe soon we can start speaking to each other out in public as well, heh. Features fandom and social anxiety go hand in hand.
