we must post the good with the bad.

i'll get us started...character and my tyger, perhaps the bitter pills in knoxville.
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

Who was that band that had Santa playing guitar and Mrs. Claus playing bass at The Boro that one time?
I TOTALLY AGREE!

I believe that was the Sneaky Eaters, and it wasn't Mrs. Claus, Joe was Santa's Bitch. Also, haven't Lifeboy played with the Features before?

I liked Crash Into June from last december....

cant say what the best was though...seems like most of the bands that open for them don't really strike my fancy...feeble wiener was good though....

carl winslow should open for them......
We have about 1500 songs.....all of them good!

My least favorites are/were Lucky Guns, Lifeboy, Serotonin and I'm sure there's many more.

My favorites include Sneaky Eaters and especially Fluid Ounces (whom the Features have opened for many a time)

The FlOz were great, but they were no Lifeboy, in my opinion. Plus, wasn't it always the Features opening for the Ounces, and not the other way around?

Personally, I didn't like Lifeboy. They seemed way too pretenious to me. However, I only saw them once... and at 12th and Porter, no less.

I have to vote for Fluid Ounces as my favorite opening band for the Features. I would also vote for the Features as my favorite opening band for Fl. Oz.

Did the Features play at Seth Timb's wedding? I heard that they were supposed to, but I never found out if it actually happened.

First of all, I will freely admit that I tend to judge bands harshly when I first see them.  I have to get used to a band's music before I like them.  As I said before, I only saw Lifeboy once so I never had the time to become familiar with them.

During that one show, though, they seemed to be trying really, really hard to look cool.  For example, the group ended their set with the lead guy stepping to the front of the stage and using his effects equipment to make some dissonant noise.  While he was still playing, the other members, in a coordinated effort, put down their instruments and exited stage right.  It seemed as if they were trying to accent how cool the lead guy was with his noise toys.

Which band has a female lead singer and two guys on keyboards?  Their music was kind of like Björk's.  I saw them play with the Features at Sebastian's.  (I don't remember who opened for whom.)  Does anyone know who I'm talking about... or did I just make up all of that?

i'm sorry to hear that it was all in fact, plotted, how cool i thought lifeboy was. silly me, i was just liking them for their music.

Yes, I was at that Lifeboy/Features show at 12th & Porter.  There were about 20 people there.  Keith Lowen's mother had to take responsibility for a bunch of my friends because they were under 21, so they would let them in.  All of those people had to sit in a group in the back so they could keep an eye on them.  I remember thinking that it was a very different set for Lifeboy.  Up until that point what I'd seen had been pretty much all rock'n'roll or powerpop, or whatever.  But that show was very experimental, and they continued to be more experimental from time to time after that.  But alot of the songs that William was writing around that time were very emotional, and I think that experimenting with sound might have been a little more fitting for those songs.  Anyway, I'm rambling, reminiscing, and whatnot.  I just wanted to say that maybe, Tom Foolery, you got somewhat of a wrong idea from that show.  And if you think that white boys turning knobs on effects pedals is pretentious, wait till you get a load of Character.

I really don't like talking about a band that I am in, particularly on another band's message board, but let me comment. First, I appreciate the feedback, both negative and positive. It is interesting to know that people think we are pretensious when I always assumed everyone thought we were a bunch of dorks. As far as that 12th and Porter show goes, first of all it was years ago. We were opening Glossary's release party. There weren't many people there, so we decided to try something different and experiment a little. I don't know how it came across (pretentiously apparently), but we had fun. Tom Foolery, I wish you could see us on a more typical night, but regardless, no band is ever going to please everyone, and we certainly don't expect to either.

I saw them at that show and a few others...the music and the presence and it all just seemed a bit...too...childish. I just never cared for the music.

Somewhere between this thread and the other, it was mentioned that rock is about being pretentious. I can't agree more. I'll love Sonic Youth till I look as old as Kim Gordon, but even they show touches of it in all their indie side releases. It can't be avoided in any group. Jim Morrison made it too easy for all singers afterward to look cool by at least looking like they had something to say.

every relevant musician is a dork at heart. if they weren't they would've done better things with their teenage years rather than learn an instrument and buy so many stupid records.

If we're talking about pretentious Lifeboy performances, I have to mention the time at 12th & Porter when, during 'Dream Sweetly Dream', there was vinyl playing on stage and Ryan Norris was projecting a dictaphone into the microphone. God I love Lifeboy. In all seriousness, I really do. I wish so badly that they were more 'active'.

This may be my doing from earlier, but have you noticed the 'best' and 'worst' threads have both turned to negative subjects? Why does that seem to happen with a lot of these threads?

a show at jackson's, keith? where, the parking lot?
oh and exliontamer, i was quite surprised to see you mention normalcy. i thought i was the only one who liked them... what ever happened to them?

i don't really have a favourite opening band.  i've rarely ever made it to a show in time to see the opening band.  i do, however, remember seeing/hearing bjork open up for them.  in that case, this should go in the least favourite opening band thread.
i missed seeing pegasi51, but i like them.  i've also never seen lifeboy, character (though, i believe they played one of their first shows with my boyfriend's 'band' at springwater), or my tyger.
