One of my all-time Features favorites! 4 [11.11%]
An above average song, for sure. 11 [30.56%]
It's the Features-- so it's automatically good, right? 7 [19.44%]
I sorta liked it at first, but... 9 [25.00%]
This song absolutely sucks-- if I never heard it again I'd die a happy guy/gal 4 [11.11%]
I'm a newbie, so I don't know this "Blow it Out" of which you speak. 1 [2.78%]

So, according to Wiyum's page, this one hasn't been played since May. I looked through some recent show reviews and saw it nowhere since August. I'm pretty sure it didn't get many votes for the legendary all-request show. It has, however, recieved several votes for least favorite Features song. Personally, I used to love this song, but I suppose it eventually got a little old.

What I think is ironic about the whole situation is that insider sources informed me that this was one of the primary songs that got them label attention. Don't quote me on this, but I know it was (is?) considered to have strong potential for a single. I'm wondering why they never play it anymore. Do they no longer like the song? Are they sick of it from all the (re)recording sessions revolving around getting it just right? Are they saving it for their big conquest of the world?

Maybe I'm getting into a bit of controversy here.

I like it okay, it's just not one of my favorites. Certainly not in the top ten.
That's so NA.

i too have also heard this information. i honestly think that "blow it out" would be a horrible choice for the band's first single. why not choose "circus" or "the way it's meant to be"? it would be a better representation of the band. "blow it out" would allow the general public to perceive them as a fountains of wayne-esque band who will just have one hit (if it even becomes one) and then be forgotten (or end up on one of those NOW compilations). i think that fierce panda has a better idea of what to do with the band than universal (or whoever is putting out the album). i just hope that everyone works out for them, because they fucking deserves every bit of success that they will soon receive.

Yeah, I think "Blow It Out" would be a bit too mellow for a first single. I much prefer the spastic songs.

I wasn't crazy about it at first, but now that it's gone, I kinda miss it.

I never really cared for it until I heard that recording. That's what sold it for me. I'm still not sure how I will vote, though. I will think on it.

I really liked it once I heard the recording of it-especially the second set of dootdoo doos where you can hear roger and matt. I was surprised when I heard that it was to be a single and maybe even hurt some feelings with my reaction. "WHAT? Why THAT song??!!!" Now that I have heard it recorded it does have potential to catch the ears of the general public, but I agree with ray davies that it isn't a very good example of a features song. It is sort of like how sugar ray put out those catchy songs that were nothing like the rest of their albums. (not to compare sugar ray and the features!) I just think it might give people the wrong impression of their music. Oh well..I really do like all of the features songs-some more than others-but there isn't one that i truly despise. love this band.

Good song. Not as good as I once thought it was... it hasn't got the staying power. Which is why it shouldn't be a single.

I've never heard it live, but I really like the recording. I think it's a good rock song, and even if it's not a song everyone would credit as a *great* Features song for some reason I think it is the kind of song that would attract label attention. And since the song is about loving to listen to recorded music, it kind of promotes record sales on it's own.

It's the incredible, self-promoting song! laugh.gif

I agree. I say with pride that 99% of my time at the YMCA is for the Features. Mostly the elliptical machine, maybe some weights.

I also work out for the features-at least one of them!
Seriously though, the features are the best work out music!!! It is funny you should say that because I can go forever on the elliptical (my favorite) if I am listening to the features. With no music, I last about 5 minutes.
