TOPIC: Bootleg Tree

I've seen this done on the Wilco site at viachicago.org. It's basically a way to make it easier for people to share the wealth of live bootlegs without one of two people doing all the work. Since only a couple of people tape the shows (save those board mixes Rory hoards) this could take a big strain of them as far as doing B&Ps. It would work like this...
There would be trunks, branches and leaves. For instance, say Blightman tapes a show and gets myself, jamiecarroll, and freezetag a copy. Bman would be the trunk and the three of us would be branches. In turn I might pass it along to Mindylieu, StephanieW, and deevol. They would be leaves. From there it wouldn't be hard for them to get it to others. Once an individual has a show she could trade it for another show, so and and so on. Thus building out libraries.
So I guess it's a bit like Amway, or a pyramid scheme. It's something that we could start a thread for and keep up with who has/needs what. Perhaps Brian could even set up a forum.
Bman, you know more about trading than I do. You're advice/thoughts would be greatly welcomed.

I would be more than happy to be a leaf. I would be just fine with getting copies to whoever needed them. I talk to damon, HeyItsBriggs, Ceeze, and of course Tom Foolery already. So, that's a start.

I agree completely with goal of the project.  The dissemination of the Features' music is a very worthwhile endeavor.  However, I wonder if CD swapping is the best way to do it.  It can be a bit expensive and time consuming.  Would MP3 file swapping be a better solution?

We could either set up a web site where people can upload and download shows or use a private peer-to-peer filesharing system (like Napster or Gnutella).  The biggest disadvantage to this system is that people with slower Internet connections don't benefit that much.  Also, unless you can burn the music to a CD, the shows wouldn't be very portable.

We briefly used a FTP site to spread some Features MP3s.  Did that work for everyone, or would you prefer to get a CD in the mail?

I am for either way really. Any way that I can help spread the music of The Features is just fine with me. I will go with the majority on this one.

I think we should have MP3's very organized and if someone wants a show on a CD, they or someone else could easily burn it. Doesn't that sound easy?

The other problem from the old FTP site (hey...whatever happened to Khuatala?) is that often the uploads were very low quality mp3s.

There is only room enough for one Keith on this message board. He's posting on the great message board in the sky now. Or something.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

I like the mp3 idea better than the CD one. Something like they have for Self would be awesome. For those of you that haven't seen it ... http://selfcontained.owns.com/ People upload new stuff and it's easy to get stuff from.

I'm one of the senior computer science geeks, but for the record I hope I don't fit that standard GT mold. Glad to hear that you are a fan, we can always use more (UGA has by far the majority in the area...damn dawgs!). As to the uniform...here's a link where you can order one http://www.onlinesports.com/pages/I,SGD-CU007.html.  Unfortunately this must be an old uniform, because the cheerleaders I know wear much better ones now.
