I was actually in Chattanooga for a brief time this afternoon
(I went to Atlanta for the weekend, and was on my way home. Unfortunately, that's all Chattanooga is to me - a pitstop on the way to Atlanta. Anyway, Atlanta was fun. We went for my little sister's birthday. She's been wanting to see the Chihuly exhibit at the Botanical Garden, so we did that Friday afternoon, then went out to eat at this pretty decent Tuscan place in Buckhead called Brio.
Then of course we went to the Cheesecake Factory
for dessert, but we ALWAYS go there. Unfortunately, on Saturday, I woke up not feeling so great [sore throat/congestion]. I think it has to do with spending time in hotels. So we were going to go to Six Flags, but since I wasn't feeling well, and because it was hot and humid as shit and a Saturday [crowded], we decided to save Six Flags for another time. I was really looking forward to the Mindbender, but instead I dropped my sister and her crew off at a large mall, and set out to explore the vast suburban sprawl that is Atlanta. Have you ever driven all the way around 285 at once? It took me like over an hour. Anyway, I saw alot of new and exciting things and wasted alot of gas. Then I picked the people up at the mall, and we eventually went to the Braves game that night. But not before I watched most of Urban Cowboy
on TV. Have you seen that movie? It's interesting. I mean..John Travolta as a 'neck...who would've thought? Anyway, we took the MARTA to the baseball game. On the way, our entire train had to offload because our train was on fire! Eventually we got to the game, and it was fun, though less so for me, becuase I was under the weather. Braves killed the Mets, 8-0, in front of a surprisingly packed house. This just in: the Braves are playing really great baseball these days. I have two observations to make. First, I had forgotten how much talent [off-the-field talent] there is at Braves games. Can anyone who has been to games in other major league parks this summer confirm or deny that this is an across-the-board trend, or is it just in Atlanta? Second, I have decided that someday, when I reach retirement age, I want to be an usher at a ballpark. This is officially replacing "school bus driver." Ballpark ushers are some of the coolest people you will ever meet, and they basically get paid to watch baseball. So anyway, after the game, we went to the Varsity [well, actually the Varsity Jr.], because that is my one stipulation for going to Atlanta - I have to visit the Varsity at some point. And as usual, the Varsity did not disappoint, even though I was pretty congested and couldn't taste very well. So then, after taking part in the circus that is Buckhead after midnight on a Saturday, we went to bed, and woke up this morning to drive back. We stopped in Chattanooga for lunch) and happened to see a random flyer for the show on Broad Street. It took me by surprise, seeing a Features flyer in a "strange" city. And I learned on the flyer that the show was, in fact, tonight. And that made me sad, because, as I said, I am not feeling well, so I will be staying in. Even if I was well, though, I don't know if I would drive back to Chattanooga when I was just there this afternoon. I hope ya'll have a great time, though.
