Million Ways          1/11/2003

“Pants Getting Tighter”     2/28/2003

This does of course leave alot out... one assumes that The Beginning was somewhere in late 2000 or early 2001. We know the old stuff from the Features EP and Mississippi Albums are old, but not HOW old... other missing stuff, like 33 1/3, Oh My Love, and Circus are probably in the middle there.

So these "waves" are arranged by year, but that's pretty close, at least a good starting point for further discussion on how to organize.

Bumblebee  5/2/2002
I think there's a problem with this. "Bumblebee" was on the The Beginning EP, which was released in 2001.

I would put "Darkroom" and "Serious" with the 1999 wave. They sound much more like the 1999 stuff than the 2000 stuff. I also tend to associate them since they were recorded in the Mahaffey sessions.

Another great idea, Will... and a wonderful start!

And I was well aware of that, but the dates I hae are for live debut... which clearly doesn't work for this. As well, I'd have put Darkroom and Serious with the others, but I did state that this was an arrangement by year. Clearly, another good (better?) starting point would be arrangement by album, since much of the Mahaffey Sessions stuff has a distinct sound, as does the Mississippi stuff.

But it's all too subjectie for me to have done it any other way.

I would break it up just a little bit different:

The string of new hits with a new lineup:
Kari-Anne 5/9/1999
Exorcising Demons 9/18/1999
See You Through 11/10/1999
Darkroom 1/29/2000
Serious 1/29/2000
Stagecoach ?????

Recording a new EP:
Captain Williams 8/24/2000
The Beginning (Week One) ???????
Stick Together 8/24/2000
Walk You Home 8/24/2000
Two By Two 9/21/2000
Stark White Stork 3/15/2001
Bumblebee 5/2/2002

Tweaking the sound some more:
Action 1/11/2001
Burma 3/15/2001
Don’t Lie to Me 3/15/2001
God Save Rock ‘n’ Roll 3/15/2001
Harold 3/15/2001
Temporary Blues 3/15/2001

Gaining strength and preparing to record:
Leave It All Behind 9/21/2001
Disco 11/15/2001
Design 11/29/2001
Moonlight 12/7/2001

Rocking faces off for a new album:
Blow It Out 2/28/2002
Buffalo Head 2/28/2002
Growing Old 3/11/2002
Someway, Somehow 3/16/2002
Damage is Done 5/2/2002
Bring on the Night 6/21/2002
Look Out Below 8/22/2002

Rocking rocking rocking:
Me and the Skirts 9/20/2002
Situation Gone Bad 11/15/2002
Exhibit A 12/13/2002
Million Ways 1/11/2003
Way It’s Meant to Be 1/11/2003
“Pants Getting Tighter” 2/28/2003

Will just did it by year, but I separated it more by season. SWSA and Bumble Bee were put with the other Beginning tracks, because I presume they were written and recorded before 3/15/01.

Right on YDDD, although I've always considered "Look Out Below" to be in the current crop, but in keeping with the rocking rocking rocking theme, it would be in the previous wave. Good.

I certainly agree with your methods YDDD. I didn't do something similar because when most of these songs debuted live I still had no more than my Features EP and Spongebath Samplers, and was ignorant to things like Stagecoach's debut.

I went more by feel with that one. It doesn't fit with the songs that have come since. It was also on the poll for best songs of summer 2002, I believe.
