good times bad times - LZ
suicide blonde - INXS
my my hey hey - neil young

>covers are pointless unless the song is already familiar >with the audience, no?

I don't necisarily think so.  Of all that I've seen here, I'll second...

My My Hey Hey - neil
I Want You (She's So Heavy) - the beatles
Billie Jean - MJ
Helicopter - XtC
Non-Alignment Pact - Pere Ubu

I must advise the features to stay very far away from can covers; that would be a train wreck.  But maybe a train wreck is a good thing...

Might I add...

1. 'Take a Chance on Me'  ABBA
2. 'Flying'  Badfinger
3. 'Serve the Servants'  Nirvana
4. '7 Chinese Bros.'  REM
5. 'Rudderless'  the Lemonheads
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

good call on the alabama cover. i'm sure yer kidding, but i could actually see it happening. maybe if they do a christmas show they could do thistle hair the christmas bear or christmas in dixie. i am not ashamed that i like alabama.
ps- trainwrecks can be good (no pun intended).

KIDDING ABOUT ALABAMA?????!?!?!?!?!? Alabama is the greatest country band of the 70s and 80s. Mountain Music would be awesome. They'll never do it but I would become a huge mark for the Features if they did.

The reason they won't do a Can cover is quite simple - they're not crazy enough to pull it off. The song would just be boring with them doing it. I think Rollum looks like a German Jaki.

Also, can you imagine Matt doing the Billie Jean dance? That would be way too cool for us petty people.

I doubt if the guys would ever take the time to work up some Can during practice, but it would be great to hear. Pere Ubu is a better possibility. I'll third Jaimiecarrol's (and his alterego phyllisswanson) support of hey hey my my.

My list:

Virginia Plain--a costume party called Roxy Music
EMI--the Sex (green water) Pistols
Anything by Phil Spector
Generals and Majors--XTC
White Light/White Heat--Lou Bowie Jagger
Song for Tomorrow--Sneaky Eaters

and especially...
gimme animosity--Superdrag

Hey Louke,

Nice choice of a certain cover.  You know, actually, the chorus of that song would make a great bridge for 'God Save Rock'n'Roll.'

Two questions:

1. phyllisswanson?  Who do you think I am?  My name is Jamie.

2. Your signature - who said that?

More good choices. How about something from Dirty Mind or Controversy instead of mainstream Prince?

Hey, mike, hope you're kidding about Dylan's 'Stuck in the middle with you'  you do mean steeler's wheel, right?  In reference to Rebel, Rebel, us old timers know that will never happen 'cause a band called the Nevers used to cover that one as a staple of their show.  I'm sure the guys remember the Nevers.  Also, I will walk out if I EVER, EVER, see the Features covering modest mouse.  Crossing the MOST OVERRATED band in the history of rock and roll (yes, i'm serious) with the most underrated band (the features) in the history of rock and roll does not mix.

just my humble opinion

I would have to agree with whoever said 'Virginia Plain.' Oh, hi Luke. 'Navvy' by Pere Ubu is a winner. I've heard a rumour that the boys know 'final solution' but that was dismissed out of hand by Mr. Pelham. 'Everybody's Gonna Be Happy'-Kinks. Few are they that have the balls to cover a Can song. Radiohead have done it. The Fall's 'I am Damo Suzuki' came close, sort of. Did PIL ever cover Can? 'Practice Makes Perfect' by Wire perhaps. And I'll have to disagree with my roommate and say that if they should choose to go down any road with XTC, 'Respectable Street' would be the one to take.

Pere Ubu is Swahili for 'God Jesus'.  God Jesus is the most relevant avant-garde band since Velvet Underground.  I recommend Dub Housing although Modern Dance was in the Rolling Stone Essential 200.

Comments:
Street Life - i would cry and dance
i'm so green - here we go with those rumours again. can existed past malcolm - sure, buddy.
Octopus' Garden - if they EVER recorded a fvcking Ringo Starr song over one of the others, I would go into a blind rage thinking the drummer WAS Starr.  I would then proceed to walk on stage and punch him before leaving.
Navvy (Pere Ubu) - nice God Jesus choice.  I would cry while I danced in a trance.
radio radio - that would be cool.  the first song i ever thought of that they should cover was Pump It Up.  i think that would be the ultimate.
my generation - god help them.
emi - god help them.
virginia plain - i can see parrish trying to be cool on the bridge.  actually, no i can't.
generals and majors - uh huh.
practice makes perfect (wire) - someone knows something on here.

I'm going to half to back up eno on this one. Pere Ubu were a seminal underground band from somewhere in Ohio. Akron if I remember correctly. They were an offshoot of a little known band called Rocket from the Tombs (way before rocket from the crypt). The band split before ever recording a record, though there are some existing basement recordings of theirs that are supposed to be released very soon. Cheetah Chrome (i think this is right, don't crucify if it's not) and one of the other guys went on to form the Dead Boys (great punk band, 'Loud, Young and Snotty' is a bitch of an album) and David Thomas (not to be confused with dave thomas of Wendy's fame) went on to form Pere Ubu, who for my money, are the far better of the two bands.
pump it up, yes.

ok- so seems like there is a very large concensus that the boys need to do a pere ubu or xtc song. this , my friends, could be very interesting.
neuboy-not exactly sure if this is w. or r., just curious if we are kickin' it idaho ave. style on new years? let me know!

actually with that signature, i'm sure it's r. besides, w. would not have said the ubu were from fucking akron.
